A Whole New World
A/N another thing. Any and all rules here are the exact same rules from Universal Cross, another one of my stories, and my personal favorite (as of now) so refer to the E.S. chapters at the start of that book for any questions. Thanks for getting this far!
After seeing the chase, Numi ran over to where the scorch marks were. She poked on, and it burned her finger, but minorly.
"Owie..." She said, confused more than hurt. Then she saw the messy and unstable blue-green portals on either side of the alley. She went to the one on the left, and tried to poke it. She gasped as her finger passed through it. She then poked her head in, to see what was going on. It went right through, and she saw a blank space of white as far as the eye could see. Little did she know, she was gazing at the separative layer around the Lost Realm, which kept it isolated. Meanwhile, Axel closed the portals. Nothing happened to the one Numi was in, but the other portal disappeared. Something fell out of Numi's pocket. It was part of a muffin she was saving. Despite her uncertainty, Numi pushed through the portal. She fell a short distance from the entry to the "ground", if one could call it that, and landed by her muffin. She quickly ate it, and looked back to see the portal gone. She was for all intents, stuck. She started panicking, shouting various lines, such as:
"This isn't funny!"
"Guys? Where is everything?"
"I don't like this anymore!"
"Help me!"
She ran forwards, trying to find anything. She stumbled, and another portal appeared. She had gotten close enough. She fell through it, and was met by long, fuzzy grass, thick, moist leaves, and the scent of morning dewdrops. Bees buzzing could be heard from all around.
"Owie..." She again said, holding her squished nose. She looked around at the scene around her in surprise. Just a moment, all was white, but now she was in the middle of a dense, vast jungle. She started walking around, looking for anyone to tell her what was going on. What she found, was not a conversational type.
Callie/Rukhar POV
Rukhar was returning from the Jungle castle, with several full jars of honey. Callie was tailing him, still not fully used to the Lost Realm. However, she loved the vibrant landscape, and the sweet morning air. Her heavy Zanite hammer was slung over her shoulder, and Rukhar had his Adamanti-Iridius Bow and Arrows over his. Callie beamed at Rukhar for probably the fifth time that morning, happy just being near him. Suddenly, both felt an odd feeling, as if there was someone else out there.
Numi POV
Standing at 1 foot 5 inches only, Numi was used to being the short one in the group. But when staring a spider that was over 50% taller than her in the face, that was a situation she never thought she'd end up in. The spider in question blinked it's bleary eyes, and got a good look at Numi, who was looking pretty edible at the moment. It screeched, a horrible noise that disturbed the ears, and hacked a thick glob of webs right where Numi was standing a moment ago. But she was long gone. The spider saw her crashing through the undergrowth, and took off in pursuit.
At the moment, Numi wasn't running very fast. The brush was dense, and hard to navigate. But then she saw the spider right above her, far outpacing her. Her tiny face paled in fear, and she began crying. She sobbed that "the joke wasn't funny anymore." However, the only answer she got was a drip of some kind of saliva landing on her face. It hurt, and it was sticky.
Numi bolted, faster than thought to be possible, pushing through the brush at a wild pace. Eventually she found her way out, and ran into the open. The spider was still behind her, keeping up, and spitting webs at her as she ran. She began screaming and crying, making about as much noise as a fighter jet. One web clipped her foot, and caught her. She was stuck in place, and the spider slowed down, and walked slowly towards her. She cried even louder, but there was no one around to hear...
So she thought.
Callie/Rukhar POV
"Is that another Inkling?" Rukhar asked.
"Yeah, but it's very tiny." Callie replied. The pair were behind a small rocky outcropping, watching Numi, and more importantly, the giant spider chasing her.
"Is it a baby?" Rukhar asked.
"No." Said Callie. "Baby Inklings look like a squid."
"We gotta help her. I want to know how she even got here, no one can find this place." Rukhar said.
"But how?" Callie asked. "The spider is too close for us to get there in time."
"Callie, really?" Rukhar faked a sad face. "Who said I have to get closer?" He loaded a single arrow, drew, and let it fly.
Numi POV
The spider was inches from Numi's face, when a huge stick with a reddish maroon tip zipped by her, and hit the spider in the head, lodging there. A second one followed, and the spider fell still. Numi turned to where the stick came from, and saw a strange creature, and was that Callie? She began babbling for Callie, ignoring the other figure.
Callie got closer, and Numi soon saw she was huge. She got very confused, but it was still Callie. She pleaded for Callie to help her, and Callie replied. Only thing was, she had absolutely no idea what Callie said, it didn't sound much like Inkish at all.
Rukhar/Callie POV
Callie approached the smaller Inkling, and asked her "are you ok?"
The smaller Inkling didn't seem to understand her. She kept wailing in a panic.
Callie tried again. "It's ok now. The spider is gone."
The littler inkling still was panicking. She clearly couldn't understand Callie, and Callie realized the little Inkling was trying to talk too, but Callie's headgear couldn't properly translate. It made out words here and there, but many words were not translated.
"Shh..." Callie said, resorting to universal gestures and noises. "Shh..."
She tried to give a more comforting expression. The smaller Inkling was clearly terrified, and Callie could guess that was because of the size difference. She gently removed the webs from the little Inklings leg, and sat down by her, trying to be less imposing.
Numi POV
As soon as the huge Callie sat down, Numi ran up to her, and climbed onto her lap, asking what was going on.
The giant Callie still wasn't making much sense. But she did hear Callie say her name several times, and guessed she was asking what her name was. This in a way made Numi more scared, because this was clearly not the same Callie, but at least the big Callie looked like an inkling, just a big one. She shakily said "My... name... is Numi..."
Callie got the name, and replied. The sentence contained the word Numi, but nothing else made sense. Callie turned to face the other creature, and said something. The other creature responded in a far different language. Then the big Callie nodded, and picked up Numi.
Despite her terror, Numi rather liked being carried. Then, Callie gave her to the other creature. Numi immediately began to throw a fit, but calmed down when the other creature (which she was now noticing was even bigger) put her into a fair sized bag. There wasn't much in the bag, and it was warm from the sun. Numi dozed off, and turned into her squid form. Meanwhile, big Callie and the other creature were arriving at a hill with a huge hidden doorway. They entered, and started walking towards big Callie's room.
