“annabeth. . . annabeth”

“yeah?”

“are you alright?”

“of course” she was sitting cross-legged on her bed on call with thalia but her eyes had trailed of the screen and had rested on her tapestry. “why?”

”you've just been ignoring me for like two minutes and I feel like I'm talking to myself”

“im sorry but you love talking to yourself. you said that everyone else was ‘too lame’ and that they ‘didnt have anything interesting to say’”

“you're the exception”

“wow thanks”

“in return for that compliment-”

“and there it is”

“shut up, I would like to know if you have texted my idiot cousin yet. he came over earlier to hang out with Jason and he gave me a hug”

“I haven't and why is that relevant?”

“it wasn't like a hug where you put a ‘kick me’ sign on your back hug, but like an actual hug hug”

“maybe he just wanted to”

“do you think he's high, insane or both? do I need to start looking into mental asylums?” thalia turned away from her phone and opened up a laptop

“is he not allowed to be in a good mood?”

“not unless I know why. ooh this one looks nice ‘pennhurst asylum”

“wait- didn't they go there on buzzfeed unsolved?”

thalia shrugged “fuck knows, do you think they'll accept walk ins?”

“can we please change the subject”

“alright, why haven't you texted him?”

“i haven't thought of the right thing to say yet”

“you're impossible annie. hold up you wanna know what I think?”

“ablolutly not”

“i think that he was driven insane by his broken heart”

“haha very funny”

“i'm serious, talk to him or he'll probably blow up the school as a grand gesture or something”

“and you got all this because he hugged you?”

“It was scary annabeth”

“i reckon you're the one who has to go to a mental hospital”

“i love our late night conversations”

“speaking of late night- I'm going to bed now”

“alright, see you tomorrow. just promise me you'll talk to him soon”

“fine, night thalia”

“b-” annabeth ended the call. she wasn't entirely sure why she was keeping this from thalia- she told thalia everything.

it's just their relationship was so new, god is it a relationship if you've only my been on one date? whatever it was if thalia found out it wouldn't be long before the entire school did and annabeth didn't want this small spark of good in her life to be ruined by a sea of inconsiderate teenagers.

“morning” annabeth sliped into pipers car the next morning

“i can't believe you were already waiting for us” kaite said

“and that we didn't have to drag you out of bed” hazel continued

annabeth shrugged “i slept well last night”

“and have you tal-”

“dont even finish that sentence”

“alright” piper put her hands in the air

“hey you're supposed to be driving dickhead, keep your hands on the wheel”

“bitch we're not even moving yet”

“saftey first asshole”

“yeah you shouldn't take chances, the pavement can be very dangerous” hazel said in mock seriousness

“ugh you sound like my driving instructor”

annabeth smiled to herself today was going to be a good day she could feel it.

“piper drive or we're going to be late”

“drive yourself”

“with what car??”

english was not annabeth's favourite subject. granted she was fairly decent at it, but compared to her other subjects it definitely was a weak spot caused by a mixture of dyslexia and her bitch of an english teacher.

so when she arrived at her first period, english lesson to see a new seating plan projected onto the whiteboard she groaned in disgust.

ms richmond loved to listen to the students gossip and make ‘impromptu’ changes to the seating arrangements based on the information. annabeth scanned along the list of names and dread grew in the gut as she saw the last two names.

annabeth chase = percy jackson

she made her way to a small lone table in the back of the classroom, a table ms richmond reserved for her favourite ship of the term. where she would make some not so subtle jokes about the unfortunate students.

annabeth didn't mind sitting next to percy jackson, in fact she would have loved to if it wasn't for what everyone else would say about it.

percy was already sitting down  “hey annabeth” he said slightly nervously.

“hey” she said ignoring connor stolls smirk. “hows it going?”

“pretty good what about you?”

“same”

“quiet at the back lovebirds, this is a lesson not a date” ms richmond said with a sickeningly sweet laugh. the class muttered amongst themselves in dislike.

they sat in an uncomfortable silence but when the teacher leaned over her computer to get the lessons PowerPoint up percy rotated to face annabeth.

“i had fun yesterday, do you maybe want to do it again sometime?”

annabeth smiled “yeah, i'd like that”

“im busy today but how about tomorrow after school?”

“sounds good to me, also could we not tell anyone about whatever this is just yet? if that's alright with you-”

“i was about to ask the same thing; this is new and we're just rolling with it- riding the wave”

annabeth had never ‘rolled’ with anything in her life but she found that she didn't much mind. the thought was scary, terrifying even. but the kind of terrifying adrenaline you get from a rollercoaster.

“just rolling with it” she echoed. “i can deal with that”
