❝Hey, hey, have you heard this rumor? Deku-san of the nine mysteries...❞

UA High,
A prestigious school for young heroes-in-training and future pros. Standing atop the hills of Musutafu city, the campus itself spread wide. The dormitories lined up on a fair distance covering five minutes on foot.
The courses weren't limited to just the Hero Department. There were the ever so creative Support Course students, the competitive one's from the General Studies Department and the Business Course.
But recently, the students and the faculty had found out that a certain rumor had surfaced and spread around the campus.
Who started it? What was it's origin? How long has it been there? Did it spread to other places as well or was it just bound to UA? There were many questions no one was going to answer to. Simply, because nobody had a detailed knowledge of what exactly this rumor was about.
There was a little to search on it, not much. Surely, urban legends and myths had always been fun things to fool around in school and UA students did it as well, nonetheless. Not very often though.
It was an era of quirks and it was believed that anything could happen. But all those 'incidents' - no guarantee if they were real or made up - that weren't led by any physical body and had been going on for years and years and people witnessing strange happenings, the idea of ghosts and apparitions sounded like the only answer to a lot of people. Plus, it seemed to be fun.
Ghosts are always fun until they show up and kill you.
Well, they also could've been a ghost quirk or something like that but most people didn't seem to research about it much. However, some were truthfully scared of them, some didn't seem to care, some used it as a source of entertainment.
And in the midst of all the normal school activities for a hero school, this new rumor that had risen, certainly caught some vivid attention and fame. Fairly quickly and fairly for an uncertain reason...

"Ashido, have you solved the third question yet?" Yaoyorozu asked.
Evening time, in 1-A Heights Alliance Dormitories' common area, a small group of six girls was hurdled around a wooden table that rested in the centre of the room - homework in progress. A few boys were also seen sitting beside them, busy with their heads in the textbooks. The rest of the class was probably out training or finishing their assignments by themselves in their own separate dorm rooms.
"Wha? Oh, yeah. I'm working on it." Ashido replied, not even looking up as she hid her head behind the maths book she was holding up in one hand further.
"Ashido, you're clearly not working on it. I know you've been on your phone for past two hours behind that book." Yaoyorozu pointed out upon which the pink skinned girl groaned, dropping the textbook and revealing her cellphone.
"Busted..." Ashido puffed her cheeks out, still scrolling through the device. Then she said, "Blame Tooru. She asked me to look something up."
"Way to throw me under the bus." The invisible girl retorted.
"What are you guys looking for anyways? Don't say maths, because I know it's impossible to find that word in your search history." Jirou said, putting her pencil up against her chin.
"Mind you, I always use incognito." Ashido replied, "Anyhow! There has been this new rumor going around the school and since there wasn't much info on it, Tooru asked me to search it up online. But apparently it's too new for the internet to go wild about it."
"What rumor?" Sero asked, he was sitting between Uraraka and Shinsou out of which the brunette seemed a bit interested in the conversation while the purple haired boy was just trying to focus on his book. He didn't even know why he agreed to study with them. He was definitely forced to do it. Yup, there was no other plausible explanation for this.
"You know, it's one of those ghost myths!" Hagakure exclaimed. Hearing her words, some of the others began to look in her direction as if waiting for her to state the rest.
So, clearing her throat, the invisible girl spoke in a low dramatic voice,
"They say that recently a ghost has made an appearance in this school... Left to development studio's hallway, there is an abandoned room at the end. No one have been there in years and the window that connects to the room appears to be curtained so nobody can see what's inside... Rumor has it that; the ghost of a hero course student stays in that room during the day and haunts the school building after sunset..."
Somehow, the group submerged into the concept since this was probably the first myth regarding the ghost of a hero course student. It became interesting to them and they found themselves attentively listening to what Hagakure was saying. A few others who were passing by, from either the kitchen or coming back from training, had also stopped there to listen.
"They're called; Deku-san of the nine mysteries..."
"According to the rumor; the ghost guards the school from bad omen and evil spirits at night but some others say that the ghost was wronged in their life so they are here to take revenge on the fake heroes... Some even say that they fulfils wishes, one per person of course. But," Hagakure said, "If you are brave enough to actually summon them and then solve all those nine mysteries... Your ultimate wish is to be granted..."
With that, Hagakure clapped her hands together and returned back to her normal tone, "That's it. Thats all I know about it."
"Yeah, right.... Are you sure it's not some student just messing around with a ghost quirk?" Jirou asked.
"Nope. There's no student in any courses of UA with such a quirk. Nezu confirmed it." Ashido replied with a confident smile as she folded her arms.
"You actually asked the principal about it just to know if the ghost was real or not?" Kirishima sweat-dropped.
"He was surprisingly pretty chill with it. He likes this ghost stuff apparently." Ashido said. "But still, we don't know if it's real or not, so..."
"I dunno." Shinsou rubbed the back of his neck, "The closest thing I know to answer if the ghost is real or not is that Hatsume told me she's been hearing strange noises coming from that room and sometimes she finds that the support lab is more of a mess in the morning than what she leaves it like."
"Confirmed. The ghost is real. Let's go summon 'em." Ashido said right after. She almost stood up before Hagakure cut her in.
"And that's the problem, Mina. We don't know how to summon the ghost." Hagakure said.
The pink skinned girl huffed and flopped back down on the cushion she was sitting on. "Right. That's what I was searching."
"How about we set this aside for a while and focus on maths? We have a test tomorrow in case you forgot, Ashido." Yaoyorozu said, "And no sneaking phones behind the book this time. Understood?"
"Yes. Yes, Yaomomo."
After that, they all temporarily forgot about the myth and went back on doing their assignments.
But for some reason, the class couldn't comprehend,
Why did the name Deku sound so familiar?

✎ Side notes:
• Yes, Shinsou is in 1-A.
• Yes, Mineta still sadly exists.
• The plotline doesn't exactly follow tbhk so you don't need to watch it to understand.
• Another planned-for-Halloween story out in July. My patience streak is too low.
