Starlight romance

Geoff's POV

"Just do it."

I sighed and rubbed my face. I sat on my bed watching as the sky started to get darker. "I don't know. What if he says no?" I was seriously worried about being rejected. I don't think I could handle it from him.

"He won't. Now stop being a pussy and fucking go over there and ask him!" Chloe shouted down the phone using her exquisite range of vocabulary. "Ok fine just stop screaming at me." I gave in, defeated. "Someone has to." She replied. I could almost see the smug look on her face. "If I could see you right now I would punch you." I growled.

"No you wouldn't because you love me too much." She was right. "Damnit. Ok I guess I should get my shit together and go."

"Yes go. I'll talk to you later, love you."

"Love you too." I heard a click and the line went dead. That was...interesting.

Me: Hey, are you free?

Awsie 💕: yup, why?

Me: you'll see, pick you up in about fifteen minutes?

All I had to do was wait. I looked back out at the sky and remembered the first place I took him, before the beach day.

"I have hayfever." He protested weakly.

"And?" I questioned, raising my eyebrow.

"I'll die! Are you trying to kill me? Is this why you brought me here? To kill me? I can eas-"

"Awsten shut up and get out the car." I pleaded, cutting him off. He sighed and nodded slightly. I cheered and moved away from the car so he could wind up the window and open the door.

"Ok so what are we doing?" He asked once he was stood next to me. "We're just gonna sit here."

"We're going to sit down? Is this your idea of a good time, sitting down?"

"Yup, come on." I sat down and patted the grass next to me before putting my arms out behind me and leaning with all my weight on my hands. "I hate you." Awsten said; he sat down beside me.

"There's nothing to see." He complained. "Shh. Just look. Look at the stars and the patterns they're in, and if you just wait for it..." I stopped talking and pointed at the inky night sky, littered with thousands of golden wishes.

"There!" And there it was. A streak of fire soaring above us. "Make a wish." I whispered, closing my eyes and breathing deeply. I wish I could call Awsten my own. I thought. I wish I could wake up next to him everyday, tell him how much he means to me.

"That was beautiful." The boy next to me breathed once it had passed. "Just like you." I muttered.

"Hmm? Did you say something?" I shook my head and watched the wind ruffle his purple hair. "No."

"Tell me what you're thinking." Awsten said. I sighed and lowered myself to the ground. Awsten twirled and propped himself up on his elbows looking down at me. "Just that I'm glad you agreed to come out with me."

"I came out ages ago what are you on about?" I rolled my eyes and poked his arm. "Ok I'm sorry. Of course I would come out with you, you take me to the see the best things. I would never miss a chance to spend time with you." I was glad it was dark otherwise Aws would've seen my cheeks burn a dark red.

"And I was actually thinking the same thing. Thank you for tonight Gee, I loved it."

I played with the necklace around my neck as I gazed out the glass. Two buzzes from the device next to me broke my train of thought.

Awsie 💕: ofc, see you then xx

Chloee: go get him xxx

Chloee: text me the details! 😘

"How long do I get you for?" Awsten climbed in and shut the door before answering. "As long as you want. Gracie's entertained with movies, she'll probably fall asleep on the sofa like usual and I'll move her when I get back. I don't know about my Mom, not that I care anymore." I nodded and drove off.

"Where are we going?" I turned down the radio. "Somewhere we've been before. You'll enjoy it I promise."

"You don't need to promise Geoff, you've never let me down before." A smile crept onto my face, taking up position in the middle of my face. "What are you smiling about?" Awsten questioned. "Nothing! Am I not allowed to smile anymore?"

"You are allowed I'm just nosy." He giggled, covering his mouth with his sleeve. God his giggle's adorable. He's adorable.

"We're here!" I announced, shutting off the car and stepping out into the cooling breeze. "I remember this place!" Awsten exclaimed. "Do I have to fight with you to get you out again?"

"Nope, already out." He said from behind me. I grinned and plopped myself down into the exact place from last time. Awsten took up his seat next to me again. "We're just in time." Together we watched as the sky turned from blue to a pinky orange to a red and orange as the sun set.

"It's beautiful." He murmered in awe.

"Just like you." I whispered. "Did you say something?" I started to shake my head but stopped. "Uh yeah, I said it's beautiful just like you." For a while he was silent. My heart started racing and I immediately started thinking the worst.

"Thanks." Awsten spoke softly with a blush. "It's ok." We watched as the sky grew dark and the stars appeared. "For a couple of weeks after our evening out I would come back and sit here, talking to the stars. Those three up there," he pointed to three silver lights, "they're my favourite. The one on the left is Otto, the one on the right is Gracie and the middle one is Geoff. All my favourite people."

"I'm one of you favourite people?" I asked in awe. "Yeah." I smiled at him and leant my head on his shoulder.

"Gracie's starting chemo soon. She's a bit scared but she knows I'm there for her. She likes you too ya know, it would mean a lot to her if you were there for the first one." Awsten told me. "Yeah sure, when is it?" I asked, honoured that she likes me. "Next week on Thursday at 12:50. The school know I'm leaving early I can let them know you are too."

"Sure! I'll drive you guys, that way she can get home quickly afterwards as well." Awsten beamed at me and nodded. "Thanks Gee."

I lay down again and stared up at the stars. Awsten flipped himself over so he was leaving on his elbows, looking down at me.

"What are you thinking about?" I smiled, remembering what I said last time. "Just that I'm glad you agreed to come out with me."

"Of course. Why wouldn't I? I enjoy spending time with you." Aws replied. "Good because then I get to do things like this." I sat up and took his face in my hands. Without a second thought I closed the gap and pressed my lips to his. He didn't respond at first but then started to kiss back.

I pulled back smiling, still cupping his face. "Good because I like doing that too." Awsten giggled. "I like you." I told him.

Aws' soft lips met mine once more. "I like you too." He mumbled. I pecked his lips before lowering myself back down. The purple haired boy put his head on my chest and I wrapped my arms around him, kissing the top of his head. "I don't want to leave."

"Me either."

Awsten's POV

"Gracie?" I shut the front door softly and popped my head into the living room. "You awake?"

She looked up at me from the tv, blonde hair falling into her eyes. "Hey sweetheart, why are you still awake? It's one in the morning."

"Mom didn't come home and I missed you. Plus there was too much to watch." She told me. I smiled and walked over to sit down next to her. "How was it?" Gracie asked, pausing Dr Who. "It was...magical. We watched the sunset and looked at the stars and then he kissed me."

Gracie's eyes grew wide and she gasped. "He kissed you!" I nodded and giggled, hiding my face with my sleeve. "Twice. I kissed him the other two times."

"So are you like official now?" I shook my head. "Nope, we both agreed that we should go on a couple more dated first as if we'd just met." Gracie nodded. "That's sensible. Good id-" A wave of coughing washed over her, cutting her off.

Automatically I grabbed a tissue and handed it to her. "Blood?" I asked once she'd finished. She showed me the scarlet stained tissue. "Do you want to go to the hospital? I can call Geoff you know he's fine with it. He loves you like a sister." I would never take her to the hospital unless she wanted me to.

"No, I'm ok. It'll pass." She told me. I nodded and put an arm around her, rubbing her back when she started coughing again. "If it gets worse or doesn't stop then I'm calling Geoff, I won't take no for an answer." Stern voices and serious situations weren't really my forte but sometimes I had to be, especially in times like this. I sort of adapted I guess.

Gracie just nodded and coughed a bit more. Once it had stopped she passed out pretty much straight away. I stopped her up and carried her bridal style to her bedroom. All tucked up and asleep she looked exactly like she did when she was younger, innocent, sweet and happy without a care in the world. I wished we could go back to then when Dad was still alive and she wasn't ill and Mom was still around.

I kissed Gracie's forehead and switched off her light, leaving her door slightly open so I could hear her from downstairs. The front door slammed shut when I got to the bottom of the stairs and my Mom's face popped up.

"Gracie's asleep, she's stopped coughing and I made pizza earlier, it's in the oven." My Mom started to talk but I ignored her and just walked straight into the living room, flopping head first onto the sofa. If she isn't here when she's needed then she doesn't deserve any of our time.

She doesn't deserve to be called our Mom.

These are becoming longer and I love it.
