Chapter 1️⃣5️⃣
Ammika's POV
I stood outside of my dads office door for a few seconds getting myself together. I have to get into the right mindset to talk to him. My dad can be a little intense sometimes. I'm not sure what exactly he has to talk to me about but I'm not ready for this.
I take a deep breath and knock on the door.
"It's open!" I hear my dad say from the other side of the door.
I open the door and he looks up from his desk. "Baby girl!" He says with a smile. "Nice of you to come home."
"Well I didn't have a choice, you sent Mike and Ty to come get me. What was the point of all of this?" I ask
"Just to talk." He says
"Okay. How was the trip that I didn't know you guys were going on?"
"It was nice, until it wasn't." He says. "Your mother is upset it was cut short."
"I'm sure she was, as always. She's always upset about something." I roll my eyes.
"Sadly, that's true." He says, then shrugs, "She buried herself in a bottle and my credit card. She got over it mighty quickly."
"I don't think so, she gave me a little attitude downstairs." I say
"That's your mother!" He smiles. "Anyway, I'm missing a few kilos from my stash. Do you know anything about that?"
"Excuse me?" I say shocked. "I haven't even been here."
"Moses said he went in the wine cellar, noticed it was unlocked, looked around and noticed some bricks missing." He says with a straight face. He's serious.
"So you're trying to tell me that you think I stole drugs from you? Are you fucking serious right now dad?" I ask
"We were out of town Michael and Tyler said they didn't do it, so that leaves you."
"I am not a thief. I can't believe you're really accusing me of this. Did you question the dozens of staff that you have running around the house?" I say with an attitude.
"I have, no one seems to know where the missing bricks have gone." He says
"You're fucking with me right?" I ask. I can't believe he's accusing me of stealing from him.
He smiles, "Yeah, I am." He laughs.
"Oh...." I laugh, "Daddy don't do that to me."
We both laugh for a minute.
"I did find that some were missing but Tyler said he took them. Business is good and he needed a little extra for one of his people." He explains, then he gets a serious face.
"Sit down, babygirl." He points to the chair in front of his desk.
I take a seat, and I wait for him to speak. This is what he really wanted, I'm a little nervous.
"So.—."
Before he starts, I cut him off, "Okay daddy, before you chew me out, I just want to say....."
He cuts me off, "Just listen. I know you're a grown woman, and can date whoever you want, but we must meet them. You've been spending time with this Roman Reigns guy, and from what I can gather, you guys are getting very close." He says
"Okay?"
"With that being said, we need to meet him. Your mother and I need to know who you're spending time with. I have to have him investigated. Not that he needs it, but I have to get him a security detail...You know the drill."
"But that's why I didn't want to tell you guys. You guys are so dramatic. Joe doesn't know anything about you guys. Just let me live for once. Damn! And a security detail? Seriously? I'm lucky he hasn't noticed the security that follows me around." I say irritated.
"What I said is final. Invite him over for dinner tomorrow night, and we'll go from there. He is to wear black. Make sure you relay the message." He says
"Daddy, I don't think I'm ready for him to meet the family. You have to think about it, it's only been a couple of months. We're not ready for that." I say
"Six o'clock." Is all he says, shutting me up.
"Okay, but I don't think this is a good idea."
"You like him, right?" He asks
"Yeah, but—."
"Then it's final." He says, "You're dismissed."
I don't say anything, I just walk out of his office and into my bedroom.
I plop down on my bed, and pull out my phone and call Joe.
"Hey!" he answers.
"Hey Joe."
"Why do you sound like that? What's wrong?" He asks
"So my dad wants you to come over to meet the family."
"The family?" He repeats
"Yes. Tomorrow night at 6." I say, "I need to tell you something about my family. We're greally close, and pretty well known. Whoever we date needs to be approved and that's what going on." I explain.
"Approved?"
I sigh, "Yeah... I know how it sounds. Just google Ken Harris. I'll wait."
"Hold on." He says, then things fall silent. I'm sure he was doing what I asked. After a couple of minutes he speaks. "So your dad is one of the most wealthiest men in the world?" He says in disbelief, "No, you're family is one of the wealthiest families in the world?" He corrects himself. "What the fuck Ammika, you couldn't tell me this?"
"I know.....I didn't know how. How do I even start that conversation?"
"How the hell do you not know how to tell me you're rich as fuck? I get it but damn." He says seemingly frustrated with me. He's probably mad as hell at me right now.
"I didn't want you to look at differently."
"Look at you differently? I tried to keep things as normal between us as possible. I'm worried about how you'd look at me, and you're thinking and doing the same. That's messed up." He says
Oh my god, he's so upset with me. I don't think he's ever been this mad with me before, and I've lied to him. He's going to hate me.
"Listen Joe, I'm sorry—." I can't take this. Omg, he's so mad.
"And what's going on with these brothers you supposedly have now? Are they your brothers or not?" He asks
"Okay, let me explain."
"I'm listening." He says upset.
"So....my brothers are my brothers. That's true. I didn't tell you about this because I wanted to separate from my family for a while. Everyone knows who I am, and everyone knows who my family is, I just wanted a break." I explain
"A break from what?"
"Them. My dad wants to control everything, my mom is always drunk and probably on some type of pills most of the time, my brothers are always breathing down my back, and I never have time to myself. My time is not my own, and I have no privacy. Even when they do leave me alone I have staff watching my every move. When I'm actually by myself, I'm constantly trying to find ways to escape my reality. You don't understand." I say getting frustrated with myself. He doesn't understand this.
"I'm trying to understand. I mean, I can relate on some level, I am Roman Reigns, and probably means a lot to me." He says, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to flip out on you like that. This is just a lot to take in. I thought you were just a private person, like me..."
"I am, but now you know why. Listen...my family isn't what you think. Google doesn't tell the whole story."
"What do you mean?" He asks
"There's so much more to the story..." I start, but can't seem to say it. I just want to see him. I miss him so much. "I wanna see you, Joe." I say
"Where do you want me to pick you up?" He says without missing a beat.
"I'm at my parents house, but I don't think it's such a good idea for you to come here right now."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. We can just wait til tomorrow. We can try to sneak away." I say
"I'm down. I'll sneak away with you anytime." He says and I smile.
"Joe, when everything is explained to you, promise me you won't leave. I'm so used to you being around, and I feel safe with you. I don't know if I can let that go."
"Babygirl, I'm not going anywhere. Your dad or brothers don't scare me. Especially, the one that thinks he's scaring somebody with perfectly manicured hands."
I laugh, because he's so right about Ty. He gets his nails and feet done every two weeks, like I do.
"He says real men get manis and pedis."
"I'm not worried about that fool." He says and we fall silent.
"Joe, there's something else I need to tell you, but I'm scared to because you will definitely look at me different." I say
"Tell me and we can talk about it."
"I can't, I'm too ashamed."
"Lobo, whatever it is you can tell me." He says
I just can't bring myself to tell him, "You know what, that's okay. Just drop it."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. It's nothing. I can't wait to see you tomorrow. I have to warn you, my family can be very invasive. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable or anything, but my parents will ask you a lot of questions, questions you probably don't even know the answers to. Like, how was it living in your mother's womb." I joke, but I'm super serious.
He starts laughing.
"I'm serious. They want to know everything, but if you're just calm and honest, everything will be fine. My dad can make anyone crack under his gaze, it's a gift."
"Babe. I can handle him. I'm sure I'm going to get grilled by him, and your brothers. I'm not phased. There isn't anything they can do to me to make me leave you alone. I told you I'm not going anywhere, and I mean it." He says and I melt. I hope this is true.
"That sounds good, but after tomorrow, I'm sure your mind will change. Anything that is said tomorrow, please don't repeat. With you being who you are, they're probably going to try to run you away. My family isn't what they seem to be.... But if my dad likes you, you'll know it, and you won't have anything to worry about."
"And if he doesn't?" He asks.
"You'll know that too....and I'll probably never see you again."
"That's tough."
"Yeah, I know but I have to listen to them."
"They don't run you. You're grown as hell and you're free to see who you want to." He says and I agree. I wish my family did too.
"Yeah, that's what my brothers thought too, until they ran away their girlfriends because they didn't fit the standard of what they wanted. All my mom has to do is say the word and my dad makes it happen."
"Oh, I'm not worried about your mom. Moms like me." He says sounding confident.
I laughs little, "My aunt seems to like you. She might even try to turn your head. She thinks you're kind of hot." I say and he laughs.
"Your aunt? So you showed her a picture of me?"
"Yeah, we were talking who I'm currently seeing. My moms sister, my Aunt Lisa asked. But you don't have to worry about her, she's super cool, and I'm sure you're going to like her. She's honestly the realist one in my family."
"Tell me about Ty." He says.
I sigh, "I knew you were going to ask. Ty is super cool as well. He's actually not my blood brother, but we grew up together. His mom got sick and passed away when we were younger and my mom was his godmother, so custody was granted to my mom. He's a little overprotective of me, he takes the whole brother roll to the extreme, but he means well. Ty has done a lot for me and he's also got me out of a lot of shit, and I am very grateful of that, but when we were in college, we kind of dated."
"What?" He says in disbelief.
"Yeah, I know. Kind of weird, but he's not my blood brother, so it was okay."
"What did your parents say about that?"
"My mom didn't like it because she looks at him like he's another son, my dad didn't really care and my aunt loved it. She thought that we were best friends turned lovers, or some crazy shit. It didn't work out."
"So that's why he was trying to kill me with his eyeballs. He still a little jealous." He says
"Maybe a little, But nothing will ever happen between us. He knows it, and I know it. There's nothing there, he's really just like a brother to me." I explain
"Okay, and Michael?"
"He's my blood brother. I love Mike. He's always there for me when I need him, he's kind of like my voice of reason. I pretty much go to him for everything, but he has just been a little overbearing lately and that's why I didn't tell you about him. I needed time to myself. These last few months with you have been amazing. I was able to see how life would be without my family on my back, and I liked it." I confess
"So what are you going to do?" He asks
"What do you mean?"
"I know I've told you before but I'm gonna tell you again, whenever you need to you can come and stay at my house. I'll give you a key and when you don't wanna be at home, or you just want to have a change of scenery, you can come to my house."
"That would be nice... but what about the kids?" I ask
"There will never be a time where my kids are there and I'm not. Their mother doesn't have a key to my house, she can't just come in whenever she pleases. She has to run things by me if she's going to drop them off at my house. I'll make sure of that."
"Okay."
"You do know you're going to have to eventually meet them right?" He says and I know he's right, but I'm still not ready for that. I don't want to play stepmom.
"Yes, I know, but give me a little more time."
"Okay....But if we're going to go with this, I need to I ask you a question that's probably personal, but it's been bothering me ever since I saw it."
"What?"
"You had a lot of pill bottles and money laying around your place, what was that all about?" He asks
"That's my anxiety and depression medication."
"Really? It was like 10 to 15 different bottles." He says
"Joe, I just told you what it was." I snap
"Okay, okay. I'll leave it alone." He says, "When I come tomorrow I'll bring the key, and will talk more about it then."
"Okay. I'm going to go. Thank you so much, Joe. You're so special to me, I lo—." I cut myself off. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"..... Alright. Have a good night, babe." He says sounding concerned, but I end the call.
I have a feeling tomorrow's not gonna go how I think it is, but hopefully everything goes well. Joe is in for a long dinner.
