Chapter 14

I grabbed his cloak just in time, for I was telepoted too. The cells in my body seemed to disassemble, and I found an unpleasant feeling of being crushed and put into a tube, squeezing the life out of me. Then it stopped. Everything was dark, and I knew the feeling all to well. The void. Darkness over took my vision as I blacked out.

I don't know how long it was until I woke up, but I breathed heavily, and slowly allowed myself to calm down. I wasn't in the generic all blackness with white specks... But I was in a black room. No, a cell. I was in a cell. Adjacent to my cell was Duncan. I could tell by the breathing pattern. When Duncan is frustrated or scared his breaths go very quick, like panting but more sharp.

"Duncan?"I called out softly.

"Kim?"He replied in the same tone. "Where are we?"

"The void."I growl a little."Death took you here but I grabbed on to his cloak. I'm sure he isn't happy about that."

Duncan sighed."You should of let him take me, at least you would of been safe."

"Duncan."I paused."I would tear the world apart for you, and slaughter every being that hurts you."

"And I would do the same with you."

"I know,"I drooped a little."I know."

We sat in silence. "Death is coming."I said, and I heard the shuffling on the floor to my right.

The aura, the mist. Duncan hadn't experienced the number of times I had to kill death. He didn't know the things he said to me. When we worked together to kill the dark overlord, Death had stayed silent. Unmoving. The bear traps immobilised him. His face was twisted, long, thin lines made all over his skin. The exhaustion of being summoned and killed over and over again. He taunted me, but taunts don't make me kill. I was too hasty. Death knew I was ignoring him, and I just killed him. I didn't know anything he had said a meaning. Death hovered before Duncan's cell, I could see through the black bars, and unlocked his door. I found a hole that my arm could fit through and yelled, yelled as loud as I could. The only thing important to me."DUNCAN!"

He snapped his head around, and before Death could get to him, he put his hand into the hole. The wall was so thick, two meters even. We stretched out arms, moaning in the muscle pain. Our fingers almost brushed, almost. Until Duncan was forced back. Death's bony hand had grasped Duncan's collar and I remember screaming. Screaming Duncan's name. Screaming Death's name. And Duncan screamed back. He yelled my name over and over. Not Kim, but-

"NANO!!"

The reason why we screamed so much was because we knew. We knew that we would never see each other again. And my lips longed for at least a parting kiss. I cried a lot that day, and cried even more when I heard the harrowing screams from the corridors and rooms near me. And I cried even more that the certainty, the realism this time, of my beloved Duncan's death.

***

Everything was silent for a few days. I had my arms around my legs, and crouched. My head was buried in my legs and my hair was tangled and messy. Wilted petals and pearls were scattered around the room, what's left of my head accessory. I had tear streaks lashing my face, the weight of a thousand tiny droplets. I don't know how I was surviving. But I think it was the poppets powers that helped me. I was devastated, nothing had hurt me more. But why wasn't Death killing me?!

His screams were delicious.

What?! Death?!

Yes, flux queen. I am sure wondering why I don't torture you, kill you. It is extremely tempting, for the matter.

Why?

To see you suffer. You know of your lovers death and it eats at you every day. And you know what caused it? You.

But no! I couldn't of done anything... Right?

No, Nano. Why didn't you plead for your life to be taken too? Why did you not kill me when you had the chance?

I did kill you, Death. And I will bring back Duncan. You will suffer for what you've done. You will die, Death.

I'd like to see you try, mortal. I have control over your body. The reason why you aren't dying right now is because I want you to suffer, revenge for killing me all those times!

No Death! I-

And he cut me off, disconnected me. I looked into his eyes an they were hollow. A faint of a smile left on a trace of what were lips. He nodded his goodbye and conjured someone else into what was left of Duncan's cell.

"So you got caught, huh."I said.

"What are you doing, Death?! I am your commander. I command you to release me!"

Death just looked at Xephos bemused.

***

"I did lead him, damn it."Lewis sighed.

"How'd you get caught?"

"I was a wandering souls in the realm of the dead, when Death appeared out of nowhere and took me to this cell in the void.

"I have an idea."I breathed, as I murmured it to Lewis, who kept shaking his head.

"That's madness!"

I smiled."Everything I do is madness."

--/--

"It's done!"I yelled, handing Lewis back his dagger, a little drained.

"This might kill you. Mixing it can never be good."

"It's worth a try to get out of here."

The cut on my finger started to clot and I felt this would be another scar to add to my vast collection. I stepped back and admired my work. It was a circle, a magic circle. It had different markings in different languages and signs on it. Virgo, Taurus, Scorpio, Cancer, Capricorn. All drawn in my blood. I did listen to Duncan when he talked about the symbols. I drew the aspects and their primary elements all in order and in the right proportion. Tile after tile.

"You really can't do this."Lewis shook his head."Its way too dangerous."

"Don't worry." I reply."You'll only go mad after a few days."

I began to shout:

'Hear my call, the magic over the ages. Old or new. Weak or powerful. We shall unite our forces to help those in need, to put a stop to the malicious hands of Death. He has taken many. So together, Artificers, Blood Mages, Thaumaturges, Witches, Technomancers, we will join together. For our magical properties-Thaum, Ars Magica, Blood Magic, Witchery, Necromancery. We will defend our lives, defend our lives, against Death! Answer my call and we will combine the differences of this ruined world.-And We, Shall, Prevail!'

And a blinding light shone on the heart glyph that was in the centre of the circle, and I knew that meant one thing. My spell had worked.

***

"You did it."Lewis breathed."you really did it."

"Yes."I replied shortly as I retched at the corner of my cell."And this shows it."

I pointed towards a small orb, the size of my fist. And inside it, there were three people. I had summoned three people, I didn't know who they were due to the mist in the crystal ball. They were all in deep sleep in the ball, and I decide to wake them.

"AAAAHHH!"A female screamed.

"Hannah!!"I yelled and squealed with happiness.

"Lo-Lomadia..."Lewis smiled properly for the first time in ages.

She smiled back."Xephos."She walked over to the gap in the wall.

I shook the ball again, and..."Huh?! Why am I here? Where's Strife?"

"Hiya Parvis."I said and he nods.

And then I finally smash the ball on the ground real easing the next person.

"Ah... I'm back from the dead? Cool, I guess."

"Rythian?"Parv said in awe.

"Woah! You're lucky to get the top mage around!"Lewis said.

A chill ran through the air and everyone but Rythian shivers.

I see you've gathered a magical posse, Nano.

"Yes, death, and we will kick your ass."I grin as Rythian, Parv and Hannah bring out their end-game weapons.
