Good Morning

Lukas woke up to the feeling of a warm arm draped over his waist. Carefully turning onto his back, he saw Mathias curled up against him, peacefully sleeping with his head softly laid against his pillow. Lukas felt his own heart thumping in his chest, as well as the heartbeat of Mathias, whose chest was now pressed against his shoulder. He hadn't realized they had been spooning.

The Norwegian wasn't going to deny the fact that it felt nice wrapped in his arms, Mathias' face mere inches from his own. A nervous pattering beginning to intensify in his stomach, Lukas made the bold choice of shifting and pressing himself into Mathias, resting his head on the Dane's chest and making himself comfortable before closing his eyes again.

The movement awoke Mathias, eliciting a slight panic in Lukas, whose eyes may have been closed but was very much so awake. Not trying to make it seem as though he had made the conscious effort to snuggle further into the warm, wild-haired man, Lukas remained still. Much to his surprise, Mathias simply pulled him in closer, placing a light kiss on his forehead.

They remained nuzzled together for a while until Lukas began to doze off. Only a few minutes after finally getting back to sleep, they were both woken up by Mathias, who had jumped in his sleep from the contents of his nightmare. Lukas looked up at Mathias and felt his heart swell. The soft morning light peaking through the blinds was hitting Mathias in a way that made his golden hair shine and his skin glow. Mathias caught him staring as they locked eyes, his slightly chapped lips curling into a smile as he realized Lukas had been admiring him. Embarassed at how enamored he had just let himself become, Lukas blinked and shifted slightly in an attempt at making their position less intimate.

Mathias simply shifted with him, this time leaning forwards to wrap his arm around the Norwegian before leaning in to set a kiss on his lips. The Dane pulled away for a moment before Lukas returned the favor, extending his neck to reach Mathias' lips, who seemed surprised by the previously coy Norwegian's quick response.

"Good morning" Mathias uttered, his voice husky as he finally rolled over to his side of the bed to stretch his arms.

"Morning" Lukas replied quietly, snapping out of his enchanted state to sit up in bed. He messed with his hair for a moment, knowing he probably looked as though he had just gotten caught in a wind storm. Ironically, Mathias permanently rocked that look. Sliding off the bed, Lukas lifted the blinds and flooded the beige room with light. Mathias flinched at the brightness before getting off the bed and walking out of the room to the bathroom.

When he returned, Lukas had begun making the bed. "You down for a second shot at making breakfast?" Mathias asked, joking about the last time they had made breakfast together and Mathias remarkably failed at even the simplest tasks. Lukas smirked.

"I think what you really mean is- are you ready for me to sit down and watch as you make breakfast for us?" Lukas responded sarcastically. Mathias' mouth dropped open as he pretended to be offended.

"Don't act like I did nothing!" Mathias exclaimed.

"Sorry I completely forgot how difficult your jobs were. Whisking and seasoning. I can't imagine what I would've done without your tremendous help" Lukas shot back.

"Well, guess who you just lost. Your best seasoner. I'll never help you again" Mathias replied, folding his arms as he threw a pretend tantrum. Lukas let out a breathy chuckle before walking past Mathias to the door. He hoped no one would be in the kitchen. He wasn't really in the mood for a repeat of what happened the day before.

Mathias followed quickly as Lukas walked down the stairs and into the kitchen, which was luckily empty. "Now sit down and do nothing" Lukas commanded, pulling out a chair at the breakfast bar for Mathias to sit at before turning towards the fridge. Using the eggs in the fridge and a bag of whole wheat bread that had been sitting atop the counter, Lukas began to make breakfast.

As Lukas began cooking the eggs on the stove, Mathias let out a whistle. "An amazing view from the spectators section" he teased. Lukas turned around and shot him a glare before turning back to the stove and trying to stop his face from turning another shade of crimson.

"Actually, instead of being an absolute dead weight, you could brew some coffee and butter the toast" Lukas said, turning around at the Dane who had been watching him cook with a smitten smile on his face. Mathias seemed to snap out of a trance as he shot back a nod and walked around the bar towards the coffee machine. He quickly placed a hand on Lukas' lower back before passing by him to make the coffee. Lukas pursed his lips in an attempt at containing a smile. Something about making breakfast felt comfortable, domestic even.

When he was finally done with the eggs he placed them on a plate and looked over at Mathias who was struggling to spread cold butter on warm toast. Lukas watched on with a smile, watching the Dane grow increasingly frustrated with the uneven distribution of butter. He looked up to see Lukas smirking at him and turned a bit pink. Lukas laughed at his embarrassment and took the toast from him before placing it on the plates. As Lukas brought their breakfast over to the kitchen table, Mathias made their coffees. Upon sitting down and admiring their simple breakfast, they heard the front door of the safe house open.

An officer suddenly entered the kitchen, peering around before his eyes settled on the pair sitting at the kitchen table. "Lukas Bondevik? Mathias Kohler?" he asked, seeming grateful that the two were in the same place.

"Yes?" Mathias replied, standing up from his seat to recieve whatever bit of information he assumed the officer was there to relay. Lukas remained seated, ultimately more interested in continuing to eat his toast than listen to whatever update this police office was probably going to dissapoint them with.

"I have good news" the officer began, "All suspected people involved in your case that could pose a threat to your safety have been detained. There is currently no threat to your safety."

Lukas put down his toast. "So.. what does that mean for us?" he asked, looking up at the officer hopefully.

"You can make the choice to leave the safe house if you please. If you have any doubts about your safety you are absolutely free to stay. Just be aware that an invesitagation is currently going on and you will still have to report to the police station occassionally for questoning. Also there is a large chance that this trial will garner international attention, so once it starts you will be in the public eye. But that is a problem for later. Right now, you can pack your things and be escorted back to Oslo if you so please" he explained. Lukas looked up at Mathias, who had the brightest grin on his face. The Norwegian couldn't even imagine how it felt to be him right now. First he was held captive in the lab, then under lock and key in the safe house. To have the freedom to live a normal life was something he would definitely never take for granted again.

"Thank you so much" Mathias replied to the officer, "we'll get ready to leave as soon as possible." The officer nodded in response and turned back out of the kitchen, leaving Mathias and Lukas with their breakfast.

Mathias turned back to Lukas a grin on his face so big that Lukas was surprised he didn't pop a blood vessel. "Can you believe this?" he practically yelled, laughing in excitement at his own liberation. Lukas simply nodded, smirking slightly as the Dane's inner golden retriever really came out. "You're not excited enough!" he exclaimed, shaking Lukas' shoulders as the Norwegian began to laugh.

"Stop!" Lukas protested between laughs as his hair grew more and more disheveled. The Dane stopped and sat back down in his chair to speak to Lukas at eye level.

"I seriously don't know what I would do without your help. I do not know where I would be if you didn't find me. So thank you" Mathias said, suddenly becoming serious. Lukas flinched, not wanting to accept the thanks. Sure, he had helped the Dane escape, but it wasn't all his doing. There were many things that helped him along the way, and Mathias had done a lot of the work himself, his persistent determination to save himself keeping him alive at every turn.

"No need to thank me, you're just as responsible for this as I am" Lukas replied before taking a sip of his coffee. Mathias rolled his eyes, annoyed that Lukas wouldn't recognize his own heroism.

"Anyway, let's get out of here!" Mathias commanded before jumping up and knocking his chair over with a loud thud. Lukas smirked as the Dane quickly picked the chair back up and smiled as if nothing had happened.

"You don't want to finish breakfast?" Lukas asked, looking at the untouched plate on Mathias' side.

"You can make me breakfast again tomorrow! Right now I want to get out of here and feel the sun on my skin" Mathias replied, enthusiastically taking both their plates and running them over to the sink. Lukas felt his face heat slightly at the insinuation that he would be making them both breakfast tomorrow morning. Pushing the thought out of his head, he stood up and brought his mug over to the sink. Mathias was already excitedly running up the stairs to collect the few belongings he had brought to the safe house in the first place. Lukas followed at a more normal pace, heading up to his own room to grab his jacket and shoes. He was glad to be safe, and even more glad to be going through this with Mathias, who's sunshiny presence made this entire experience more bearable. Hopefully freedom would finally let them thrive.
