Chapter 42.
Three Months Later
December 28, 1975
"George! This is the last time I'm yelling! Take out the trash!"
I groaned and rolled off the bed, falling on my guitar.
"Oow!"
I managed to put my slippers on and grab my coat, stumbling downstairs and taking out the full black bag that was waiting by the front door. Mum and dad in the kitchen watching telly and making brekky.
"Bloody six am." I muttered.
I shivered as the snow picked up.
"Bloody snow."
I set the trash in the silver can and yawned. I noticed a moving truck out across the street. A bloke about my age lifting boxes and going inside. I shrugged and made my way back to warmth.
"George! Are ye hungry??" Mum yelled.
"No. It's too early to be alive. I'm back off to bed." I said sleepily.
"But your friend is 'ere!"
I blinked and walked into the kitchen. Richard was sitting at the table eating while mum poured him juice.
"When did you get 'ere??" I asked.
"Just now! I came through the back door." He smiled.
I nodded. "Well I'm off to bed."
..
12:34 pm
I brushed my shirt off as I walked downstairs. I noticed mum peeking out the front curtain.
"What are ye doin?" I asked. She jumped.
"George you scared me! I'm tryin to see who the new neighbors are."
I crossed my arms. "Mum. Stop bein so nosey. Shouldn't ye just go out there and introduce yourself?"
"Eh."
I laughed and kissed her cheek. "I'm off out. Date with Olivia."
"Aww young love. It's cute seein you two together. Where to today?" She beamed.
"Off to the ice rink. She likes to skate."
Mum smiled and handed me a small box. "Here. I made her something. It'll be perfect for the occasion."
I shrugged. "Alright then. See ye later!"
She kissed my cheek goodbye and soon I was off to meet Olive. I noticed the people across the street still moving in. I ignored this and continued on down the street.
She was wearing jeans and a long sleeved red and orange striped shirt. A long coat over her small frame. She smiled when she saw me, waiting on her front steps.
"Hi!" She ran over to me and kissed my cheek.
"Hiya. Mum told me to give this to ye." I handed her the box. She opened it and smiled. It was a long scarf. I watched as she wrapped it around her neck. It was perfect with her outfit.
"Just what I needed! Tell her I said thank you. Look what my dad bought me." She took the polaroid camera out of her purse and took one of me. I blushed.
"If I would've known I would 'ave worn my best shirt."
She giggled and linked her arm with mine. "And what's that? Another faded Zeppelin shirt?" She teased. I opened the gate, leading us out.
"Of course not. My Hendrix shirt." I smiled. She cuddled close to me for warmth as we walked into town.
..
"....Then she told me my outfit was so last year and I told her, her hideous sack cloth of a skirt was just a shame to fashion everywhere! I mean where does she get off on trying to insult me?? And then she went on to..."
Olivia has been going on and on for an hour and a half now. And what have I been doing? Just skating around her, looking at her beautiful face. I still can't believe how she's managed to stay with a scrawny, big earred, thick eyebrowed monster like me. And her...her long brown hair. Her beautiful body and loving spirit. They way she giggles when I make a terrible joke. The way she gets so passionate about issues in the world. The way she furrows her eyebrows and pouts in anger when she realises I'm not listening to anything she's saying.
"George you're not even listening!"
"Of course I am." I smiled innocently.
"Then what did I just say." She crossed her arms.
"Erm...Emily was wearing a hideous sack cloth for a skirt and she's grotesque?"
She smiled and held my hand. "You're so cute George. So I was thinking after this, we can go back to mine and...you know." She played with my hair. I blushed.
"Alright love. Look em...I 'ave something for you. It's not too expensive or flashy but.. here." I pulled out the small ring from my pocket and handed it to her. She turned red and smiled.
"Georgie this...awww!" She squeeked and kissed me. I laughed and kissed back, pulling away to slide the ring on her finger. "I'll never take this off. I can't wait to show this off to my friends Monday after school."
We made our way off the ice, put on our shoes and had ourselves some food. Afterwards we called it a day and decided to head back to hers.
..
"So you have no clue who they are?" Olivia asked as we neared my home. I shook my head.
"Nah. I saw a bloke about our age. I wonder if he'll be goin to our school."
As we passed my house, I saw the bloke having a cigarette out by the curb. Olivia let go of my hand and nudged me.
"Let's say hi!"
"Olivia wait!" I groaned as she skipped across the street. He had longish brown hair. I hated the fact he was a bit more attractive than me. Olivia seemed to have taking a shining to him as they spoke.
"...and this, is my boyfriend George." She grabbed my hand. Atleast she didn't deny our relationship.
"Hello George. You're the bloke living across the street yeah?"
I nodded. "Yeah. And um, you are?"
"Oh I'm sorry. Let me introduce myself. I'm Eric. Eric Clapton." He smiled.
