The Unraveling Part 3
((Alright, guys. I told you this was going to be chopped up into many different segments... and I didn't lie. Lol. Here's another fuzzy one for you, however. Along with THE most perfect NovaTale song ever created. Well... it wasn't created /for/ NovaTale, but it's the most fitting song I've ever heard for a story. I swear, I hear this stuff like the music in a movie. You know those moments that are meant to make your heart swell when just the right song is playing? This is that moment, and THIS is that song.
I've actually been holding this song on reserve for quite some time (since the beginning, because I'm a loser. XD) waiting for this, so yeah.... I hope you enjoy it!
Honestly, I would recommend giving it a listen once before you read the chapter just to ensure that you hear the words.... This song is also kinda essential for the chapter, so I'm just gonna send you along another Listen On Repeat type thing. <3
Artist: Sam Tsui and Kina Grannis
Song: Bring Me The Night

As always, guys. I love you SO much, and I truly hope you enjoy part 3!))
On the way up the elevator, Frisk could see Sans stealing glances at her. It was like every fantasy she'd ever had about falling in love was coming true. He was amazing in so many ways. The way he'd been when she'd first revealed herself to him quite literally took her breath away. It was like all the old movies that she'd watched. The other thing she'd noticed... he seemed to almost look at her with new eyes, as if truly seeing her for the first time. It made her whole upper body flush with pleasure, red staining her cheeks when she finally looked away. To hell with the fact that he was a Skeleton. He was adorable, with that almost bashful smile she could see settled upon his face. Everything about him made her want him that much more. He was dangerous, mysterious.... but what he was right now was hers. Only hers.
Almost startled, while the hum of the elevator drawled on, she felt a bony hand reach down for hers and she clasped it tightly. Fingers entwined, the two exited the elevator and Frisk took in everything wide eyed. The large towers that jutted from the top of the building, looked like something out of Rapunzel. Ivy ran down the side of the wall nearest them, and a grand entrance door lay ahead, columned and beautiful.
"You ready?" he said, looking to her for confirmation.
"Yeah... excited, honestly." Frisk said in a breathy whisper. "Are you?"
"I'm a shitty dancer, but I'll try for you." Frisk could feel a squeeze to her hand and butterflies brushed their wings against the walls of her stomach. She'd been on cloud 9 since seeing Flowey, but this? This was a whole other level....
"Just follow my lead." Sans said, looking over at her with a reassuring grin. She returned the gesture in kind, giving him a simple nod as they made their way through a large set of white opal doors and into into a grand ballroom. Each wall held tapestries and paintings with beautifully vivid colors, flowers adorned almost everything. Blue flowers, Frisk noted.... The same as Flowey. Their gray vines spiraled around columns and brightened the already gorgeous space that much more. When she looked down, the floor seemed to be made of thick glass that, when she thought about it, really appeared as a grand replica of the night sky in the real world. Within the floor, flecks of tiny crystals that reflected the light from above were riddled throughout in enough abundance that it damn near took the very breath from her lungs. The way the light hit them, it made each one sparkle like stars. Off to one side of the room was a long table with an array of foods on silver platters and in giant glistening bowls. Sans lead her toward an area with grand chairs lined with blue suede and cherry wood. A giant fireplace took up a quarter of the wall, dead center and rimmed with blocks of marble that framed and almost encompassed it. "This is.... gorgeous." She said, noting the enormous chandelier hanging in the middle of the ballroom, fully equipped with possibly hundreds of crystals that leached the light from within and cascaded it out in a kaleidoscope of colors. She could hear Sans audible "Hmph" with a nod in agreement. "Yeah, they go all out for this kinda stuff."
No sooner did she turn around, Papyrus came through the door and walked cautiously over to them "HAVE YOU SEEN UNDYNE YET?"
"Naw, Pap. We just got here too."
"WHY DO I GET THE FEELING SHE AIN'T EVEN GONNA SHOW UP. YOU KNOW HOW MUCH SHE HATES DRESSING UP."
"She'll show, Pap. Don't worry."
No sooner did Sans say that when what Frisk assumed was Undyne walked through the main doors. For a monster, Frisk found her stunning. Her fiery red hair was down, flowing over her shoulders and down to the middle of her back, bangs covering the eyepatch she'd seen the woman wearing before. Her baby blue dress, silk by appearance, long and flowing, only enhanced the darker blue of her skin and seemed to make the blue in her eyes more vibrant. Strapless, it hugged her torso and chest tightly before running down past her feet. "SHE LOOKS LIKE A GODDESS." Papyrus said, seeming to shy away from going toward her. "Pap, she's lookin' around. Now's your time. Get your ass over there and talk to her."
"I CAN'T! SHE'S GONNA TELL ME TO GET FUCKED!"
"No she won't. Remember when you told me that I was an ass earlier?" Frisk had no idea what he was talking about, but she chimed in. "You're amazing, Papyrus. There's no way she'll reject you." she said, placing a hand on his shoulder. He looked over at her and she could physically see some of his fear subside. "WISH ME LUCK THEN." He said before he began walking toward her. Frisk backed up a few steps and bumped into Sans chest, not even realizing he'd been behind her. Craning her neck, she looked up at him with a small smile. "Oops?" He only shook his head, laughing lightly.... but then an arm wrapped around her waist and slowly turned her toward him. "So... What do you wanna do first? There's food over there if you're hungry."
"No. I'm not hungry but..."
The beautifully haunting sound of a piano began to play and Frisk turned her head to see people moving toward the dance floor. When her eyes came back to Sans, he'd backed up a step and extended a hand out to her. "May I have this dance?" When she looked into his eyes in that moment.... Those beautiful sockets with a glittering hopefulness that he was able to cover up so well before.... it was all exposed at that moment. "I'd love to." An avid curl to her lips seemed to give him a sort of satisfaction and she took the hand held out to her. They moved to the dance floor to see Papyrus and Undyne locked in an embrace up against a pillar. Was she... kissing him? It made her heart soar to see that, feeling so much relief for him. Audible laughter fell from both their mouths when Papyrus managed to raise his head just long enough to catch their gaze and raise two gloved hands, giving a thumbs up with both.
"See? I told'ya Undyne felt the same way." Said Sans smugly. She only nudged him before they turned to one another. She took one bony hand within hers, wrapped the other over his neck. His free hand lay gently across the small of her back, and the feeling sent shivers of gooseflesh riddling all over. The dance was slow, the melody gorgeous.... Enamored, she couldn't take her eyes from him, despite his clumsy footing every now and again that threw her stepping off rhythm. It didn't matter though. It only added to how adorable she found him, especially when a splash of orange would replace the whites of his cheekbones whenever it happened. She absolutely loved the idea that she could actually make him blush. Bringing the hand she was holding to rest with the other, she snaked hers around his neck and began stroking the back of his skull gently. Oddly, she thought she was touching what felt like.... bandages? Her brows furrowed. He had one on either side at the lower part of his skull, almost meeting the neck. One ran halfway up, the other was smaller. "What are the bandages for?" She asked with genuine concern. His smile dimmed lightly at this.
"One of 'em, I can't remember. It's just always... been there. The other was from the first human that fell down here...."
"I.... I'm so sorry you've had to endure so much." Frisk felt like crying. How many times had he gone through watching everyone he'd loved being brutally slain. It was simply awful. Then having to be an enforcer of sorts to ensure no one was hurt anymore.... It must have been exhausting.
"It's alright. Don't worry about that though. Not tonight. I wanna focus on this." He said, drawing himself just a little bit closer. Those lightly fluttering butterflies in her stomach turned into hawks, and her whole body tingled. Resting the side of her face at his collar bone, Frisk closed her eyes and smiled. A long breath exhaled slowly.
This moment made the entire journey worth every second. This moment was theirs.... and it was perfect.
