The Unraveling (Final Segment) Part 5

((So, for all those still reading, I'd like to give a HUGE thank you for all your patience and support. It means more to me than I can ever say. I've had some really bad things going on at home, so NovaTale had to kinda go on the backburner for a while. But I am BACK!

So there were some twists in the last segment that I'm hoping you all enjoyed. Don't worry, things will explain themselves eventually. I'm glad to be 'back in the saddle' as they say, and I rather hope you enjoy this chapter.... especially because things won't be staying all tranquil and sweet for long. (What kind of story doesn't need some good ol' fashioned drama and suspense? ;) ) If I kept it all mushy, you guys would get bored, and that's the last thing any of us wants.

That said, let's just get right down to it shall we? The song for this segment is something that spoke to me the moment I heard it for the first time. I'm one of those people, I NEED a song that fits perfectly in order for my muse to flow rightly. Well.... This is that song, and it's epic. ^^ Sooo....

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn...

....is just to love, and be loved in return." -Christian: Moulin Rouge

Frisk found herself feverishly kissing Sans, enveloped in an embrace that she swore would be her undoing. Nevermind the whole experience with their souls.... Had they actually united? Becoming one? She was so confused, but in the wake of this kiss, all thoughts simply seemed to fade away. The hollow ache that had resided within her being for so long felt like, for the first time since she could remember, had melted away like polar ice caps in global warming. It was an indescribable feeling that no words could give justice.

Pressed this close, Frisk was sure Sans would be able to feel her heart pounding within her chest, while she herself dealt with the knots coiled within her stomach. He pulled back finally, leaving her in stunned awe, slack jawed and incapable of speech. What could she say? 'Hey, that was awesome?' would be like telling someone who'd just swam the entire ocean that it was about as good as if they'd swam the length of the pool in their backyard. "I..." was all she could muster before she noticed his cheeks burning orange, also adorning the most lovestruck smile she'd ever seen. This moment put every romantic movie in her arsenal (and that was saying something) to shame. Fumbling fingers lingered around his, sliding them in between the spaces and back out again as she looked down to them while trying to think of something to break the silence.

"Why is it that when I'm with you, nothin' makes sense?" he said, laughing breathily through his words as though he was nervous to even spout them out. Frisk, in all the times she'd been incapable of shutting up, could only mimic his laugh before blurting out "I don't know... but if it helps any, the feeling is mutual..." It was all she could finally offer before drawing her gaze back up to his eyes, which were staring at their souls that floated beside and slightly above, seemingly two halves of one whole. "Do you have any idea what this means?" Frisk looked from the souls back to Sans, who shrugged. "Not a damn clue. But I think I know somebody who might. Only problem is, nobody's seen his ass since the first timeli-..." he paused. "Let's just say, he disappeared a long time ago, and no matter how hard I've looked, I can't seem to find'em."

"Isn't there anybody else who might know?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gaster had been gone since the first human had slaughtered everyone, vanishing before Sans could even make sure he was alright. That was the last time he'd seen him, and now, it was as though either nobody remembered, or they'd been made to forget. When he heard Frisk's question however, he shivered a little.

"There is, but I ain't sure you wanna meet her. And even if we did go all the way out into the Valley to find her, there ain't even a guarantee she'd help us anyhow." When Frisk stared at him, obviously confused, Sans sighed and went on. "She's what you would call a bit of an Oracle, but I just think she's a loony old bat who likes to scare the shit outta everyone by hangin' the dust from dead monsters in bags from the willows around her house to spook anyone batshit crazy enough to go anywhere near her. I steer clear, personally. I almost thought that bitch was gonna hex me back in the day for somethin' I don't even remember doin'."

From the look in her eye, Sans could tell Frisk wasn't going to give up on this. He let out a slow exhale as his hand came up and the bones of his fingers gently traced the blend where the two colors met within his soul. When he looked back to her, seeing her giant pleading eyes, his shoulders slumped in defeat. "It's gonna be a long walk, dollface. I ain't got no shortcuts here, so we're gonna have to head through a few places you ain't never been before, some not so friendly, to get there....." his voice trailed off a moment before his expression softened. "I just hope you know I'd never let anything happen to you." When he received a smile and a nudge on the shoulder, the two laughed and he took that opportunity to lean in and kiss her again. Softly. Gently, and only pulling back when something occurred to him.

"Shouldn't you be getting back to the save star soon? You've been here an awful long time."

"Yeah... and no sign of the crazy bitch in my head either." she'd said, seeming genuinely surprised. Truth be told, he was a bit surprised himself. Still, even without that, getting her through Stormcity, and then the Outskirts? Yeah.... that was going to be..... interesting at best.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frisk didn't want to leave. If she could help it, she'd leave it all behind. Every luxury back in her apartment. Hell, she'd even live in the same clothes for the rest of her days if need be just to stay here, like this..... but no matter how squeamish Sans had seemed about it, they were going to find this Oracle and get some answers. It didn't matter how many nights it took for them to get there, if this woman had answers, at least then they'd be able to know what this was and how to handle it. Frisk could only hope Sans didn't want it to return to the way it was. Now, it was like she could somewhat feel what he was feeling. Not in a way that she could read his thoughts or anything, but his emotions weren't so closed off and unreadable. When he felt nervous, she could sense it.... And when something made him flush with happiness, that sensation rushed over her as well. Not that she couldn't understand, or didn't feel a lot of the same things, but it was.... different somehow. Like she knew what feelings were her own, and which weren't.

It was nice to have some insight into his heart and know that the growing feelings she bore for him were also reciprocated.

"I suppose I should head back home.... even though I really don't want to. I'm getting pretty tired though. I wonder how I went back that one time without the Save Star?" Sans had only smiled and held up the one that glinted around his neck, to which Frisk nodded, realization dawning on her. "So then.... I could maybe... stay with you until it happens?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sans was entirely taken aback by what she was asking, but couldn't say that he didn't want it himself. The only thing about it that saddened him was that no matter what, he'd still wake up alone. He hated knowing that, but something was definitely better than nothing, wasn't it? "My bed is yours, Dollface."

As he began to rise, Frisk grabbed him by the jacket, which he was still wearing from the masquerade. "Would you... maybe just stay with me? After you told me that Undyne had noticed me earlier, I'd rather not be in here alone. Maybe play and sing something to put me to sleep?" he'd chortled at her sleepy smile, all but batting her lashes at him. "Sure, Dollface. I got just the thing."

Watching as she curled up on his bed, Sans moved down to sit next to where her head sat on the pillow and began to play and sing softly. (PLAY ME: http://listenonrepeat.com/watch/?v=Pjh9LLy4nf8#Parachute_-_She_Is_Love_Acoustic_Version ) A few times he'd open his eyes to look down at her beautiful face, eyes closed with a smile spread across her lovely lips. Had there ever really been a time that he thought she could, or would, do him harm? Truly? Just the look of her spoke so many other things, so why hadn't he allowed himself to see it sooner? Supposing that didn't matter, at the close of the song, he gently brushed a few stray strands of hair from her forehead and quietly rose from the bed. Setting his guitar off in a corner, Sans found himself digging as silently as possible through his drawers, pulling out a grey hoodie, white t-shirt and black pants much like the ones he'd given to Frisk to wear for the evening. Though Orange was his color, somehow, it just looked better on her. Then again.... everything looked better on her. He smiled at the thought.

He stepped out to go changed, noticing that Papyrus wasn't home yet and laughed at the idea of what his poor brother was enduring. Then again, you can't really choose who you love. Sans knew all too well, as he'd just found out the hard way. Heading back down the hall, he opened the door to check and see if Frisk was still there, or if she'd vanished like she had the last time.... but to his surprise, there she lay. Attempting to once again head out of the room, he was stopped by the sound of her voice asking him to wait. Peering back in, he could see her half lidded gaze staring back at him, waving him toward the bed.

"Lay next to me?"

Her voice, husky with sleep, which made it even more lovely, practically beckoned him. Being the gentleman that he was, he'd been trying to give her space, but who was he to say no when she looked at him like that. He smiled. "Fine. But I don't go past first base on the first date." He beamed at her sleepy laughter that softly vibrated her body before she rolled entirely onto one side and motioned for him to lie behind her. He followed the command, and found that cuddling with her was far more comfortable than he could have possibly imagined.

Again, the saddest part was going to be waking up alone. But people did crazier and worse things for love, didn't they?

((It's short, but trust me. The ones to come will be much longer. I hope you enjoyed!))
