"I AM THE YOUNGEST
DAUGHTER AND DON'T
RECEIVE ATTENTION"
-
The prom and school dances in general can be some of the biggest events in a high schooler's life. From the anticipation of asking someone to be your date, to the limo ride, to the awkward, cute slow dances at the end, it is a roller coaster of emotions and hormones.
Nova had a lot of fun but also stress with the process of planning the prom night. She wanted it to be perfect, a night everyone would remember. And of course a night for the pack to take back and relax. After all they defeated the benefactor finally.
But it wasn't everything that happened, something unexplainable happened to Nova. It was like all the hard training of controlling her anger was thrown out of the window and something else took over her. Or maybe someone else.
-
All the tension between the two packs and the original Mikaelsons was floating in the air. All the unspoken words between Nova, Finn and the other Mikaelson family members were making the others around them uncomfortable, as if the benefactor wasn't enough.
Nova concentrated on Satomi's pack, trying to calm the young betas down with soothing words. At first she wanted to talk to Satomi but then she noticed Elijah talking to her and wasn't in the mood of talking with him or the others.
It was Finn's idea to bring them in here as support, since assassins wanted to storm in and kill every living supernatural creature in the warehouse. He was more afraid to loose Nova, Amal and the rest of the pack, who are technically his family, than to talk to his siblings.
Nova, already on edge, didn't had any nerves for her twin sister to talk to her or any of them, she wanted the situation to be over with already.
It never ended well with Nova being nervous on the long run or her feeling too many feelings in a room, something bad happened everytime she couldn't control it and Scott couldn't help her with it since Derek, Argent and him were making themselves ready for the fight that will happen soon.
Hours later Lydia and Stiles found a way to disconnect the system of the benefactor, the assassins retreated and no one died. But it was still pouring rain and it didn't got better.
Right the opposite happened, it started to thunder very loudly and the only thing that shown through the window were lightnings.
Everyone, except Finn and Derek, didn't know what was happening or who was causing it.
As Hope finally understood who was causing it, she tried to reach her sister but Finn stopped her, because he knew it was a bad idea.
"Nova?", Finn called out her name, but then for a split moment he noticed something odd.
Her eyes glowed bright blue, looking at him as if she could look through his soul.
"No", she whispered and with a swift hand move flew him across the warehouse.
With one blink, her eyes were back to their normal self and she was breathing uncontrollably fast, with her hands in her hair trying to get the control of her own body back.
As realization washed over Klaus, he grapped Nova and speeded with her away to the middle of the woods without a second thought.
"No, no, no, stop it, I can't stop it", Nova whispered crying.
Suddenly the ground started to shake, Nova was causing an earthquake and it got worse by every minute.
"What should I stop? Nova, listen to me", Klaus tried to understand Nova's strange behavior.
"The voices. I, I don't, I don't want to hear it anymore", she cried.
As Klaus was trying to console her furthermore, she let out a painful scream, unleashing her power and letting all her pain and sadness that she was holding in all these years out like a tsunami taking over a whole city, leaving trees breaking off and flying into the opposite direction of her within a radius of 400 yards.
Without thinking he speeded back to his daughter, that still hated him, making sure she was alright.
"I've got you, love"
"She's back", Nova whispered into her father's shoulders as she drifted into a long deserved sleep.
-
That night ended up being longer than expected, something strange happened to Nova and no one could explain what happened even Nova didn't know what happened to her since she couldn't remember that night.
It also changed something in Nova that everyone noticed, she was way calmer and nicer to the Mikaelson family members, of course she was still mad at them. She still hated them for not understanding her side of the story, but there was some calmness that she spread out to people. And it scared everyone. What if the same thing is going to happen again? Or even worse than the first one?
-
With her cheerleading team and the help of the lacrosse team, they finished the decorating almost two days before the prom night.
"And?", Scott approached her with a big smile on his lips and hide a bouquet of flowers behind his back.
Still not looking up from the mirror, she smiled big at her own reflection where she was correcting her lipstick seconds ago.
"Fine, you were maybe, just a little bit, right with the lacrosse team helping us decorate", Nova admitted with her eyes rolled.
"And?"
"And for that I will sleepover at your house tomorrow and we can watch whatever movie you want", she said laughing and finally turning around to face him, but noticed his arm hiding behind his back.
"Good, I guess you're taking over the food choice then"
Without saying anything, she signaled him her confusion through her raised eyebrow and silence. She felt his nervous state, though she'll know it would be ridiculous for him to be nervous about it since they're in a relationship.
"I know you're my girlfriend and I'm you're boyfriend-", Scott started it off real good, since she loved to hear those words to come out of his mouth, and continued.
"But I still didn't asked you to be my date for the prom night officially, so-", Scott interrupted himself to hold out the bouquet of flowers he personally selected for her with her favorite flowers.
The bouquet was filled with flowers in her favorite color; red. Some of them had a specific reason for being in the bouquet. For an example the red carnation flower symbolizes love, pride and affection. Beautifully balanced off by white roses which symbolizes new beginnings.
"Will you be my date for the prom night?", Scott asked her also handing her the bouquet of flowers that he bought for her.
"And?", Nova turned the game around at him grinning widely.
"I'll surprise you, it's going to be our date night. No new threats, no family members trying to make everything right that they did wrong back then, no supernatural problem, just us, you and me doing something normal for once", Scott convinced her over, laying his hands on her waist to move her closer.
"You already got me at girlfriend"
She smiled big, just like him. Her right hand was holding onto the beautiful bouquet of flowers and her left hand slowly sneaked around his neck to give him a peek on his lips.
Scott understood the signals she was sending him, so he leaned in and gave her a soft kiss on the lips.
"I love you"
"And I love you", Scott whispered back and picked her up unexpectedly to spin her around.
Her joyful screams could have been heard miles away, even for the non supernatural people like Coach Finstock.
He shook his head, but continued his walk through the hall.
"Young love", he sighed and didn't thought about interrupting the two love birds in any future.
-
Hope's nails were already bitten down to the quick. She nibbled at their frayed, form edges like a famished mouse.
"There goes the idea of beautiful nails for my prom night", she said sarcastically to herself and sighed.
Just thinking about the prom night made her anxious. They didn't had a prom night in Salvatore boarding school, they always reasoned it with "you already practically live together, why also a prom night".
But what made her more anxious was going over to Nova to ask her for help. With every step near the mansion it made her breathing rapid and shallow.
She could feel her pulse pounding in her temples. All the reasons not to do this came flooding in, as if her body chemistry just sent them a blanket invitation. Hope felt the soft panic that could grow or fade depending on what her next move would be. It would fade if she backed away, but then again Nova probably already heard her.
Next thing she knew, she stood in the front yard of the mansion. She wiped the sweat in her hand on her pants off, that was caused by her anxious and nervous state.
Then Hope saw her, she was sitting on a lounger wearing a gorgeous red swimsuit, a pair of sunglasses and a black sun hat.
"Now or never", Hope thought and walked out of her hiding place.
"Hey", Hope approached her.
"How can I help you?", Nova asked her, while closing her book and taking off her sunglasses.
"I, uhm, I wanted to ask you something. And yes I could've asked Aunt Bekah, Mom or Davina, but they aren't from this, well uhm, decade, but you are-", Hope talked around instead of asking the real question, her eyes were glued to her shoes, since she couldn't look her in the eyes.
Nova raised a eyebrow, at first she let her sister talk on and on, but it got too much to handle and called out her name, to make her focus on her real question.
"Hope!"
Surprised over her sudden change of voice, she lifted her gaze up to Nova and saw her smile on her face.
"Right, uh, I wanted to ask you, if you could help me decide my look for prom, I have zero skills in fashion and since you always look so good, I thought maybe asking you", Hope said fast and finally breathed out.
"Alright", Nova simply answered.
"What?", Hope asked confused to make sure she heard the right thing.
"I said alright, I need to find a new cute set of pyjamas since I already have a prom dress"
-
A few hours and shopping bags later, the two girls were walking around the mall with ice cream in their hand. Nova never thought she would say that, but she had a lot of fun.
In the three hours they were in the mall, they found a prom dress for Hope, that was blue with white decoration, a new pyjama set for Nova and an unexpected output for Derek. Nova found on the way in a sweatshirt for Derek that she found would look good on him, so she bought it unexpectedly.
At first it was awkward, Nova totally zoned out at first, because she got tired of listening to Hope's rapid beating heart and Hope wanted to start a conversation so badly, but didn't know how since she only had questions in her head.
But then they met Isaac and Amal by accident who broke the ice between the twin girls.
"Amal looks very happy with Isaac, she gives a different vibe than before", Hope started a new conversation since they left the couple alone who continued their date.
"Yeah, she was shy before but since we moved to Beacon Hills she changed, she found a mother and a father figure in Finn and Alice who love her like their own daughter. And she also found Isaac who helped her to open up, I'm happy for her", Nova told her with a big smile on her face.
Hope looked up from her ice cream and glanced over to Nova. The whole time she was watching her afar noticing all the different things, the change she did from then to now. But now standing right beside her, she noticed her change not from outside but also from the inside.
She wasn't shy anymore or silent, also not just studying all day long, not miserable or sad. She was confident and happy, alive and fashionable. Nova was loved by everyone and anyone because of her friendly way. She had friends, a pack who is also her family. A boyfriend who loves her with his whole heart and would give her the world. She had Amal who is like a sister to her, a better sister than Hope was.
It hurts her to think she could have had a bond like this with her sister Nova, but they didn't.
Thinking about it, it made her realize what happened all these years, the way all of them acted around her, talked to her or more likely ignored her.
Hope started to remember all the times she walked by Nova's room. Seeing her sitting all alone in her room from mornings where Hope was making herself ready to go out with her family to nights where she came back tired but happy from spending time with her family, while Nova was sitting all alone at home studying and only talking to the maids, who felt sorry for the small little girl.
Hope remembered the time her father sent one specific maid away who wasn't paying attention enough, what made Nova devastating. For a whole month she wasn't talking back to her family who didn't even noticed her acting out of character.
Or the times their birthday came around and only she got the things she wanted or the party she wished for, and Nova had to behave and not ruin her sister's day, even though it was her birthday too.
Hope felt horrible and sick to her stomach, how could she let that happen? How could her family let that happen? Their parents had two daughters not one, two.
"Nova I'm sorry", Hope said a little too loud, scaring Nova for a hot second.
"About?", Nova asked her confused.
"About everything, about not defending you back then, about letting it happen and not understanding what you had to go through, until now", Hope said feeling sorry.
It took Nova a little back, hearing the words she thought she would never hear from any of her so called family was very relieving and surprising.
In a strange way it sparkled a small light in her, maybe they will understand her after all. After so many years of being ignored and forgotten, maybe they finally feel sorry about their action. But it still doesn't change the fact or the negative emotions in her, it stayed the same and it wasn't an easy process to forgive them. It was much more than a sorry and they had to accept it.
"Thank you", Nova whispered still not believing fully what happened.
-
Another cloudy night rolls in covering the last of the twilight sky, as if the blackness failed to come fast enough. The rolling grey rapidly becomes as invisible as the stars it conceals, but the air still feels humid.
Nova was finally at home, after spending hours and hours of time with her twin sister, as if she was a new friend. She never thought she would ever have so much fun with someone who made her childhood as bad as it could be.
Dreamily she laid her shopping bags beside her bed and thought back at the day as she sits down beside her make up table with a mirror.
As Nova was fixing her hair happily, she heard a familiar presence of someone she still didn't properly talked with since the day she went missing. Honestly, at first she didn't found the idea of talking to him very appealing but thinking about it more and more, she thought about letting her anger out at him by addressing some of the major problems they had.
"You know, for someone who had a father who haunt them down for a thousand years, you really win the award of the worst father ever, so congratulations on that", Nova got ahead of him and kept fixing her hair while seeing Klaus' form in the mirror behind her.
Klaus sighed, not even trying to hide his hurt feelings.
"If I didn't know any better, I would say you are hurt, but then again who am I to question it, I'm just the forgotten Mikaelson who will never be apart of that bond that you have together", Nova kept on talking, trying her best to keep the tears inside and not show any weaknesses, but her voice cracked at the end as her confident, loud voice turned into a brokenhearted whisper.
"Nova-"
"Oh don't Nova me, Klaus, you know that I'm right. I'm always going to be the black sheep in this godforsaken family... I guess always & forever was never meant to be for me"
Klaus was glued to the floor and kept on listening to the daughter, who thinks that meant nothing to him, while Nova stood up from her place in front of her mirror to keep on spilling her emotions to him.
He didn't care about his reputation at the moment, he wasn't the big bad hybrid that everyone knew him from or the 1000 year old vampire who daggered his siblings for decades out of jealousy, the only thing he was, was a father who felt sick to his stomach and hate towards himself for letting his own daughter feel that way. He and his siblings including her mother and everyone else around them made that happen and no one else.
It wasn't her fault at all, it was his fault.
"I never understood why Hayley jumped on the 'we're gonna act like Nova doesn't exist'-train too, out of everyone she lived with me the longest, didn't she? As a mother she should know me, but I was a total stranger to her, while you didn't even existed in our lives", Nova ranted on.
"You're right", Klaus accepted it, while still coping with the thought of her not labeling them as mom and dad but Hayley and Klaus.
But he understood it was her right.
Slowly Nova started to calm down with a confused expression tattooed on her face and tears in her eyes, just like him.
The storm of emotions had ebbed to nothingness, now the silence was as pure as a wintry blanket. The silence in her room made her blood as cold as the autumnal air that crept through an open window. The sight of the window was way more interesting for her than looking her father directly into his eyes.
"I never knew how to handle you as a baby, no one really did", Klaus finally said after minutes of pure silence.
For the first time Nova didn't interrupted him, she let him speak, even though she didn't know where he wanted to lead her.
"You were a very silent child, but something was off, something was different about you. Hope on the other hand was very fuzzy and loud, she really sounded like your aunt Rebekah ranting about her unnecessary problems", Klaus talked on, deep in thoughts while looking down to the floor in fear of angering her again.
As he said the last part with Rebekah, Nova let out a stuffy chuckle, because of her crying, what made a surprised Klaus look up and stop talking for a second to listen to Nova's short attempt of laughing. He never heard a sound like that from her, she always was so silent or, like recently, very angry.
"From the moment I carried you for the first time, I knew you were different, but you were still my little girl. You were so innocent and small, that I promised myself to protect you from all the bad things in the world. What confirmed my suspicious about you being different even more was when I saw you for the first time after years of being in Marcel's hands. A little seven year old Mikaelson who was excited about learning new vocabulary in three different language in the month."
Nova kept on listened to Klaus' random trip into memory line and thought back to the day he came back home.
She remembered it differently, it was the beginning of her heartbreak, sadness and pain.
"I was so excited meeting you", she sniffed," but you were with Hope the whole time and my so called family watched her the whole time how fabulous she was, while I was in my room watching you from my window heartbroken and asking myself what does she have that I didn't have?".
Just by listening to Nova's side of the day made the sparkle in his go away. He remembered it differently, way happier and welcoming than her.
"Nova, we're home", Amal screamed happily through the whole mansion while closing the front door with a loud thud.
"And we brought you your favorites, oreo ice cream and some gummy bears", Finn added unknowingly about the situation upstairs and chuckled as he watched Amal jumping around delightfully.
Nova didn't answer as usual, she would normally jump out of bed, ran down the stairs, take her things while screaming happily and hug Finn to death, but it was different that night. Klaus was standing opposite her with tears in his eyes, just like her.
None of them dared to say anything, there was a lot to talk about, a lot of unspoken words in the air, but because of Finn on his way upstairs to check on Nova, he couldn't. They couldn't.
Klaus opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out of it. Suddenly he vanished into thin air just when Finn was about to knock on her door.
As he lift up his hand to knock on Nova's door Finn heard Nova's sobbing, what brought out the father instinct in him.
When he opened the door he found her in the middle of her room, confused and overwhelmed.
He's heart broke at the sight of her like that, instantly he went over to her and hugged her tightly.
"It's okay, I'm here now", Finn whispered into her ear as he continued caressing her arm.
While on the other side of Beacon Hills neighbors heard screaming, furniture thrown against the wall and crying in one specific mansion
Klaus was furious, angry at himself. How could he let that happen? Shouldn't he know better than to be like his father? Was he like his father?
"Klaus you have to calm down", Hayley tried to make no big noises while calming down Klaus who was destroying the whole place.
"Do you even know what damages we've created? We promised each other to give the girls the life we couldn't get and what did we do?", Klaus shouted at Hayley outraged and stopped for a second to hear her answer.
"We didn't, okay? I understand that, but we are making too much noise for the neighbors, they will call the police on us", Hayley informed him more calm than he ever was.
"Maybe we should let them call the police on us, with luck the sheriff will come over to tell us how much we fucked up her life since he also knows her better than we do", Rebekah said defeated and let herself fall to the chair.
Silence took over the room, every one of the Mikaelson member came into the room as they noticed Klaus calmed down. All of them were deep in thoughts, thinking back at the times they silenced Nova, the times they reacted wrongly or the times they made her feel miserable.
"You should have seen her face", Klaus whispered.
He repeated the same sentence over and over again in his head that Nova said just a hour ago.
I guess always & forever was never meant to be for me.
