The One Where Adrien Meets Marinette
"Farewell, Emile!" Gabriel Agreste yelled to the woman still getting dressed in her room as he prepared to walk out the door to attend his place of employment.
"Farewell, Gabriel!" The woman rushed down the steps as she finished doing her hair. "Don't forget to send the car to pick up y/n," She hugged her husband, then basically pushed him out the door. "Laisse maitinenat!" The two giggled as their son was looking at the affection from just outside his room.
"Bien! Au revoir! Behave yourself today, Adrien!" The boy nodded and watched as his pere left him as he always did to go to his office.
"Come down, chaton! Do you want to pick up a dessert for the filles?" Right from the word "dessert", Adrien was tripping over his feet to get down the stairs. He rolled down the last few, but stood up just fine and grabbed his jacket from the closet.
"What are we waiting for?" He opened the door for his mother and bowed, getting a laugh that could have brightened up a room. Emilie curtsied, then walked out the door.
"Merci."
As the maman and son duo began walking down the street, Emilie turned right. Adrien thought this a weird action, since the large bakery they frequented often was on the left. She sent him a smile, but provided no explanation as they continued down the wrong way. Of course, being the curious kid he was, Adrien decided to speak up about it.
"Maman? I thought we were going to Chambelland? Where are we going?" His mother just smiled as she continued to walk forward. Knowing he wouldn't get an answer when she was like this, he began walking and attempted to avoid stepping on cracks in the sidewalk.
They walked until they finally reached a small building that looked like an apartment complex. Despite his expectations to walk past it, Adrien and Emilie walked right in to see a larger man standing behind a young girl with pigtails, helping her roll out dough. At the counter, a woman wearing a Chinese garment was putting a variety of pastries in the display.
"Oh, hello dears!" The woman with kind eyes remarked.
"Bonjour, madam!" Emilie's green eyes lit up, just as they always did when she spoke to another person. The young girl with the man hopped down from her stool and stood on the tips of her toes so she could see the new customers.
"Hel-lo!" The girl grinned, her blue-bell eyes sparkling in a way he would never forget.
Adrien waved enthusiastically, excited to have someone his age at a place he knew his mother would end up chatting.
"I am so sorry. Tom!" Sabine put her arm around the young girl. "This is my daughter, she just can't pass up a chance to be cooking in the kitchen with her father."
As Tom came to scoop up his daughter, he had a smirk evident behind his mustache. "Come on, sweetie. Let's get out of your mother's way." She giggled and waved at the young boy, Adrien's face a small shade of red that, thankfully, nobody noticed.
"She is so sweet!" Emilie and Sabine exchanged words and conversed about their children. The Dupain-Chengs had just moved in, their bakery opening just a few days before. Adrien wasn't listening to most of it, instead, watching the young girl bake apple danishes with her father. Their work was so precise, and she did it as if it came natural.
"Well, thank you so much, Sabine! We'll be sure to come back soon! Bonne journee, and bonne chance!" Emilie began walking away with a bag full of pastries in one hand and the other holding Adrien's.
"Are you excited to see Chloe, chaton? It's been a while, hasn't it?" Adrien nodded, still thinking about how much care the young girl took in kneading the dough.
Just moments before they reached the gates, Emilie's phone buzzed. She had just received a message from "Gorille" that read:
"Emilie, y/n isn't coming to the car, and nobody answered the door. What would you suggest I do?"
Adrien could see his maman's face become worrisome as she handed him the bag of pastries without taking her eyes off her electronic. "Go put those on a tray, Adrien. I have a call to make." He nodded, though wondering what could possibly make his mother seem so nervous. "Go!" Adrien ran to the kitchen and did as he was told. He ran to his bedroom and opened the door to eavesdrop on his parente on the phone.
"What do you mean, Gor? She is always waiting at the door!" Emilie was pacing, and Adrien had a terrible feeling in his gut. "They are? But they should be au travail! Non, they may have just overslept. They keep a key in the flower pot next to the porte. Figure out what's going on, I'll try calling Ellen." Emilie hung up, just in time for a black limo to drive up.
A girl in a pretty yellow dress with black leggings walked out into Emilie's open arms. She lifted the girl with a false smile and carried her into the house.
"Chaton! Chloe's here!" Adrien lost vision of his mother and heard the front door close, so he quickly shut the window and ran downstairs to greet the young blond.
"Bonjour, Chloe!"
"Adrikins!" Chloe hugged her amie, her golden hair surrounding his shoulder.
"Would you like a patissere? Maman and I went to a small bakery to get it."
"Bien sur!" Adrien guided Chloe to the dining hall, and Emilie answered a phone call that broke her heart.
From the dining hall, only her shocked and pained voice was heard when she said the words that broke everyone's heart. "Quoi? They're dead? Do we know where y/n is?" Adrien and Chloe could hear the movement of a chair from the office. "Kidnappe?"
