Chapter 37- Cut Short
I grab Michael's hand and we start making our way to the entrance.
"Do you want to start?" He asks after finishing purchases for our tickets.
"Is that even a question? Of course I do!"
First things first, the Batman Ride. It's a huge yellow and blue winding coaster that looks highly intimidating. Even Michael looks scared.
"Do you honestly want to ride that? I mean, we can start with something smaller.." He drags out his words and I start to giggle.
"Sounds like somebody's scared to me," I smirk.
"No I'm not! I'm scared for you! I know you have a fear of heights so we don't have to do it," He states quickly.
I gaze up at the looming ride before me, using my hand as a visor against the sun that beats down on us with its harsh rays of bright light.
"Well I'm willing to do it, I'm scared but it can't be that bad, right? You'll be with me."
I link my arm through Michael and he kisses my forehead before we start toward the ride.
The line is just as winding as the tracks on the roller coaster.
"Looks like we're in for a long wait huh?" Michael says.
"Yup. I'm surprised nobody has noticed you yet."
"¡Mira! es Michael Jackson!"
It looks like I've spoken too soon. Heads have started to turn toward us, realization growing.
"Should we go? This could turn into a mob and I know you're tired of that." I say while wrapping my arm around him.
"No it's alright. Let them realize it. I don't want anything to ruin this day you know? I just love being with you."
I smile and give him a quick kiss before the line moves up. People have started coming over to us.
"Michael, te quiero!" They start chanting.
I turn to him and laugh as they start linking arms and surrounding him.
"You know what they're saying right?" I question.
"Of course! I love you more," He says to them with a slight blush.
I then feel a tugging at my legs. I look down and see a little boy with big amber eyes. I grin and crouch down, picking him up and placing him on my hip.
"Hey little baby," I coo while lightly tickling under his chubby chin.
The young boy giggles and reaches out and brushes his tiny hand against Michael's shoulder. He turns and looks at the boy with adoration in his eyes.
"You've got another little fan baby," I comment and Michael kisses the boy's head.
As we are cuddling with this young one, my mind starts to wander into having one of our own. A child. There's nobody I would rather start a family with than my man.
Then, make frantic cry is made in the distance, snapping me out of my thoughts and making me turn around as my ears follow the noise.
"Oh!" A short woman rushes up to me and plucks the baby out of my hands.
"Gracias! I'm sorry he always runs off like that!"
At that moment she turns to face Michael, nervously holding out a pen to him.
"What would you like me to sign miss?" He inquires, and the excited lady holds out her hand.
"My hand! I will never wash it off after this."
He clicks the pen and scribbled his fanciful signature across the back of her hand.
"Gracias! Te amo," She gives his face a hundred kisses before running off into the amusement park, the curious little boy in tow.
"That was too adorable," I whisper as the line takes a huge step up.
Michael has a couple more autographs to give out, and finally it's our turn to ride.
"Ready?" He asks.
I shrug. "Nope, but I'll do it anyway. Come on," I pull him toward the ride and we get seated, securing ourselves with the seatbelt.
Very soon, the ride starts to move. I loop my small arm under and through the belt and Michael does the same. I hold his hand tightly as we advance up the track. All of the evergreen trees and bushes can be viewed as my feet dangle below me.
Up, up, up.. Then down.
Just suddenly, we're shooting through loops and drops as fast as lightening.
I'm screaming for dear life, my grip tightening on Michael by the second. But next to me, I hear laughter.
How could he be laughing at a time like this?!
All I know is I'm terrified, and the only confirmation I'm still alive is Michael's touch. I shut my eyes and fervently pray for the ride to be over.
My prayers are answered two minutes later once the ride abruptly jerks to a stop. I unclip my seatbelt and jump out of my seat, making a beeline to the exit. I want to be as far away as possible from that death trap.
"Alondra! Sweetheart, where are you going?"
I feel light-headed, dizzy, and tired. I find a bench and collapse on it, my head spinning.
Heavy footsteps come up to me and Mike's face comes into view as he crouches down beside me.
"Did you like it?"
I look at him as if he's crazy. "Hell no! That was terrible, I could've died," I exclaim.
Michael holds out his left hand. It's completely blue.
"Well, this is what you did to me." He says with a chuckle.
"I'm sorry," I pull him up to sit next to me on the park bench.
"You need some water honey?" He asks.
I nod and he rushes over and buys me a jumbo water bottle filled with ice water. I chug it, draining all the water. I gasp and set it down.
"Thanks baby. I feel better now." I say.
"You're welcome. What do you want to do now?"
Before I can answer, I'm cut short by Michael's phone ringing. He reaches into his pocket and answers the call.
"Jackson. Hi Dunk, wait what? But we're not even in the country. We won't be able to make it.."
I frown in confusion. "What's going on?"
He puts his hand over the speaker and looks at me.
"It's Janet. My sister LaToya is in the hospital," He informs me urgently.
My eyes widen in concern.
"Well, we need to go see her!" I say.
"We can't! Then we'll have to leave and I don't know when we'll be able to come back.." He responds.
"Oh just give me the phone!" I snatch the phone out of his hand and put it up to my ear.
"Hello?" I hear Janet say.
"Hey Janet, it's Alondra. What's happening?"
"Hey baby, things aren't going good. LaToya is in critical condition in the hospital. She says she wants Michael here, the rest of the family too."
I glance at Michael, who's shaking his head. I ignore his negative gesture and go back to the call.
"Alright. We'll be there, don't worry." We say our goodbyes and I give the phone back to Michael.
"Why did you just do that?!" He raises his voice.
"Your sister is in the hospital and you don't even care? What happened to the compassionate, loving Michael I know?"
"But when will we ever get a chance like this? To be here in Mexico?"
"We can have this chance, but what about LaToya? She's in critical condition! They don't even know if she can make it through the night! We're going!" I say sternly.
"We won't be spending a lot of time together.." He mumbles.
"And why not?" I ask fiercely.
"Frank says I'm taking too long of a break. After this trip I'm going to have to delve into my music."
"Oh so this trip was just compensation? An 'I'm sorry' gift before you go bury yourself in your career, becoming to busy to spend time with me?" Wow Michael." I say incredulously.
"I didn't want you to find out like this. I'm sorry..." He starts.
"Apologizes can come later. Right now, we need to get to LaToya."
I get up from my perch on the bench and quickly walk toward the amusement park's exit, Michael following closely behind.
It looks like this 'vacation' is being cut short.
