3) Truth or Trick
Emmalyn rolled over in her bed with another annoyed huff. Once she got back home her mom and dad talked a bit before flat out grounding her. She wouldn't even be allowed to go near the boundaries anymore. She had to stay within view of the house for a whole month before her parents even considered letting her off the rope. Her little siblings never got the same treatment! Maybe it was just because she was much older than them though.
"Pssst!... Em!" A farmiliar voice whisper shouted to Emmalyn. She smiled slightly and sat up in her bed and looked out the window. When she looked she saw eight glowing red eyes looking back at her.
"Jef? What are you doing here?" Emmalyn whispered.
"I saw you got grounded. That must suck. My mom always seemed to ground me the most out of my eight-hundred siblings. It sure stinks!" The spider said. "I'll be on the roof. It's the best place to be when you can't leave the house." Then the spider climbed up the wall and out of sight. Emmalyn smiled a little and opened the window. When she looked down she saw that she was a decent ten or so blocks above the ground. Then she looked up and saw Jef looking at her from the roof.
"How do I get up there? I'm not a spider." Emmalyn asked her eight legged friend.
"Just try." Jef coaxed. So Emmalyn slowly stepped out onto the window ledge and tried grabbing the wood walls for her to climb on. There wasn't much to grab hold of, but she thought she might at least try. So with a little leap of faith, Emmalyn pulled her feet off the ledge and onto the wall as well. And surprising to her, she stayed on. It wasn't even really that hard. Just like climbing a tree, sort of.
"Wh- how am I doing this?" Emmalyn asked Jef in surprise.
"Yesss! Now come on up here!" Jef said happily. So Emmalyn slowly but surely climbed up the wall like a human spider until she grabbed the roof. Jef helped her the rest way up by pulling on her arm. He was surprisingly strong. When Emmalyn was entirely up she sat on the edge of the roof with her legs dangling off the side. Jeff sat beside her. And they both looked at the silent night and the stars that illuminated the dark sky. "Soooo, what did you do to get grounded this time?" Jef asked Emmalyn.
"Hhhh.. I went outside the boarder again. It's hard to stay in one place for so long.. I just.. hhh.." Emmalyn answered with several sighs.
"Yeah.. I guess being a young human makes it hard sometimes. So many rules. Us mobs are allowed to leave the house once we are large enough, so I guess like humans. But not the same in a way. Because we can go wherever we want, whenever we want. You humans have to wait until you are old enough. It all just takes time I guess." Jef gave his ramble that Emmalyn listened to silently.
"I just wish I could go on an adventure I guess. Something to do that I can think about, other than school and chores.
"At least you are lucky enough to have an interesting heritage. I'm sure adventure will find you soon enough." Jef said soundly now that he had his little piece of proof to prove his old theory was correct.
"Hu?" Emmalyn tilted her head at her spider friend.
"Oh, nothing." Jef tried swiping the new topic away.
"No. Please tell me. What is so interesting about my mom and dad?" She asked.
"Uh- oh- um- well.. They went on many adventures when they were around your age." Jef said.
"Really?" Emmalyn perked up in interest. "Wait, how would you know?"
"Oh just little stories here and there about their adventures. If you kill about one-hundred mobs in one setting you tend to end up in our history books."
"Oh wow. Did you know any of the mobs they killed?" Emmalyn asked with sympathy in her voice.
"No not really. Only a few aunts and uncles too distant to really get to know. I barely know the names of all my own siblings! So it all makes sense." Emmalyn chuckled a little at his sarcasm and then both of them fell silent.
"...Hhhhh.. I am really going to miss you Em." Jef finally sighed after a few minutes of peaceful silence.
"Wh- why? Where are you going?" Emmalyn asked with worry.
"Oh, not me.. you." He stated, suddenly sounding cold in his voice. Emmalyn just stared at him emotionless, not having any idea what he meant.
"W- what do you mean?.." She finally asked.
"Well, you see. There is this guy. You don't know him, yet, who ordered all us mobs to find his daughter. I already had an idea of who it might be, so I came here. And you have proven to me, that you are the one." Jef spoke with a little sadness at the end.
"Ha ha! Stop joking!" Emmalyn fake laughed as she punched one of Jef's shoulders playfully.
"Sorry Em. But I'm not." He sighed.
"Wait, how could someone order you guys to do stuff anyway? I am the only human who even talks to mobs." Em.
"Exactly. You aren't entirely a human though. Only you, and your real father can do that. And maybe a few others." Jef.
"Get outta here!" She laughed again, hoping it was a joke. "I don't have some sort of real father that I don't know of!"
"Well then get ready to be proven wrong." Jef said sadly. Then before Emmalyn could even register his words, she was pushed off the roof, by Jef, and onto the ground. She landed with a painful looking thud but got up almost immediately, without a scratch or bruise on her.
"Heyy! Why did you push me off?!" Emmalyn shouted up angerly. But Jef was nowhere to be seen. "Jef?! Jef where did you go!?" Then she attempted to climb her way back up. But she was still a little shaken from the fall and slipped back into the grass. After that, Emmalyn felt two bony hands grab her shoulders. On pure instinct she turned swiftly with her hand out to swipe at the legs. The force caused the skeleton to fall over, allowing her to jump up and run.
Emmalyn ran around the house to the front door but found it blocked off by a horde of zombies. They didn't look like they wanted in though. They were just there, to keep her out.
"What!?" Emmalyn panicked. Then she heard groans from behind and saw it was an ambush. "Crap, forgot my sword." The girl mumbled under her breath. There were zombies, skeletons, spiders, cave spiders, husks, slimes, endermen, strays, and even phantoms, all around her.
"Go with them peacefully and they won't hurt you! None of us want to hurt you! We just want to do as our master commands!" Jef shouted from the roof-top. Emmalyn looked up at him with a scowl.
"Whoever this master of yours isn't my father! My dad is Steve!" Emmalyn shouted. Several mobs around her chuckled.
"Then just go with them anyways and prove it!" Jef shouted. Emmalyn growled and raised her fists. Ready for a fight. And Jef rolled all eight of his eyes at the sight.
Then the fight began. The phantoms were the first to swoop down to grab the girl. But she punched them as they came near and sent them flying away whimpering. Then an enderman teleported in and grabbed her. A creeper crawled near, giving Emmalyn an opening in the crowd surrounding her. Emmalyn wiggled out of the ender's grip and jumped over the creeper to get out of the circle. Then she ran deep into the forest, hoping it was all just a nightmare.
