Chapter 77
He shook his head. "Not regular Djinns," Dean said, telling us about an offshoot leaving humans' jelly-like insides. "They leave behind a blue handprint." Dean ended up showing us Dad's journal. "Do these things die like the regular Djinns?" I asked Dean. "Silver blade dipped in lamb blood, yeah. We have to find the asshat." Dean grumbled. Charlie wanted to go on a supply run, and when I offered to go with her, she thanked me but wanted to go alone. "She seemed a bit off," Dean mumbled. Sam and I nodded. "Yeah, since she got here," Sam answered, worried. I went into my room to grab a sweater, which I stole from Sam since I loved the oversized sweater Sam wore; when I returned, I heard Sam and Dean talking since Charlie hadn't called. "What are you doing?" Sam asked when I saw Dean taking his cell phone out. "When I called you from her phone, I turned her GPS on," he explained. Dean tipped on his phone until he found her and drove to her apartment; we saw a mess as we entered. "Charlie? Charlie." Sam called, but there was no answer. We searched through the room, but it was empty. "What the hell is this?" Dean asked, whispering. "Whatever it is, it belongs to Charlie," Sam whispered. "Is she Jason Bourne or what?" Dean mumbled when Sam mumbled something. "Djinn," Sam said to Dean and me. I found her phone and showed it to Dean. "All our missed calls. Do you have anything on her Laptop?" Dean asked. We both looked over to Sam.
"Yeah, I found donations to a hospital in Shawnee County through her aliases," Sam said. "What charity?" Dean and I asked at the same time. "A patient. Gertrude Middleton." Sam lightly shook his head while reading from the screen. Dean and I soon found out that Gertrude Middleton was on life support after a car crash sixteen years ago, killing her husband on their way to pick up their daughter from a sleepover. "You know what im thinking?" I asked Dean as the nurse walked out of the room. "That this daughter is Charlie?" Dean ended what I wanted to say.
Dean walked over to the bed while I stood on the end. "You've got one hell of a daughter, Mrs. Middleton. I promise you, my sister and I will find her." Dean quietly promised her, and I nodded as Dean looked back at where I stood. Sam waited for us, and we returned to the bunker while Dean told Sam what we found out. Sam said that the new coroner's assistant accidentally signed the bodies to be burned. "You know what im thinking?" I said as I sat down with a beer bottle. Dean turned to me with a beer. "That's probably wrong," Dean said with a smile. "Fine, I will not tell you what I think since Mister Asshole," I said, nodding to Dean. "Won't let me point out that she might be the Djinn," I said. "So we have to find Jennifer?" Sam asked, and I shrugged. "She has a house ten minutes from here at an abandoned shipping warehouse," Sam said, who was reading something on his Laptop. We went to the old shipyard; we walked around quietly when Dean and I found Charlie tied to a chair. Dean tried to wake her, but she was in an unconscious state; while I stayed with Charlie, Dean snuck around, and when he came back, he had his blade in his hand and had Sam with him.
Sam injected Charlie with a blue liquid, but it didn't help. "What the hell is going on?" Dean asked. "No idea, different Djinn. Maybe she needs a different antidote?" Sam asked. Dean, Sam, and I thought about what she might need when we had to get into her head to break it from the inside. "African dream root." Sam, Dean, and I said at the same time. We grabbed the stuff we needed, and Sam and Dean mixed the things we needed while I held the ingredients. "Alright, let's do this." Dean drank the contents of the jar.
"You have to punch me to go to sleep fast," Dean told Sam. "Come on, Sammy, don't be a," Dean said, but he couldn't finish since Sam punched him. However, it wasn't compelling enough. Dean tried to say something, but Sam punched him again and, this time, knocked him right on his ass on a chair next to Charlie. While Sam and I waited, I felt him still not feeling great; I didn't say anything since Sam would refuse help. I tried to stay calm, but my body shook from the cold air; I walked around a little while Sam stayed close to Dean and Charlie. Just as I was around a corner, I heard a voice. It sounded like a kid. Sam said something back, so I stayed and listened. Ready to intervene, I snuck up behind the kid standing before Sam. "Hey, kid." The kid turned around, and I stabbed him ruthlessly. "You okay?" I asked Sam, helping him to his feet.
We waited longer, and when Dean finally started to wake up, I ran over to him. "Dean, Dean, hey, you okay?" I asked, helping him from the chair. "Im okay." Dean looked at Charlie, who was still unconscious. "Charlie?" Dean asked, worried; we all looked over when Charlie finally woke up, looking at Dean with a tearful gasp. "Im sorry I had to," Dean told her before pulling her into a hug while Charlie sobbed. We went to the bunker, and after Charlie packed her bags, we walked her out. "So, thanks for saving our bacon." Charlie smiled at Sam and me. "Any time, your Highness," Sam answered. "Yeah, Bodyguard on duty, I guess." I giggled, saying that.
