Chapter Eleven
Thrushpelt woke up, eyes wide in distress. His daughter was evil? Why was a cat like her in a place like that? He glanced over at Cracklefrost, her fur was spiked as she curled against Cinderwing.
He sighed and looked up. You are no longer safe while I'm around.. You traitors... He looked at his feet. His claws were unsheathed. He looked around and the entire Clan was staring at him.
He yowled. "Traitors!" And ran to his den. All the images seemed clearer now. Bluefur's death.. Sunstars death.. Briarkit.. He was a kit! StarClan is cruel... He covered his face.
All the dead cats swirled around his head, breaking through the wall he built to keep them out.
"No! It's not true! StarClan are traitors!" He screeched as mysterious black foam poured from his eyes. He was melting!
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain and was drowning in blood. He struggled to the surface, but was dunked by a paw. Bluefur's paw.
The dead she-cat let out a gut-wrenching yowl. "Let go!" She meowed repeatedly. "Let go!"
Thrushpelt woke up in a pool of sweat, he looked up, confused. He was in the medicine den. Oakpaw was blinking at him.
"Your awake. You were calling out in your sleep so I gave you poppy seeds. They should be wearing off. And while you were asleep, I went to the moonstone!" His sons mood went from serious to excited.
"I have my full name! It's Oakshade!" He jumped around. Thrushpelt purred I'm so proud! I hope he knows that.. Warrior or not..
Oakshade's meow made him jump. "They are about to make Echokit an apprentice." He meowed, not paying attention. Echokit! He shot up, and left.
Thistlestar was speaking. "Cinderwing, you may be young, but I trust your calm personality and your eagerness to fight. They mix like ThunderClan and the forest. I trust you to pass on these strengths and abilities to Echopaw." Thistlestar finished.
"Echopaw! Echopaw! Echopaw!" The Clan cheered. He gazed at his daughter. We've been blessed! Thank StarCl- He glared at the sky. StarClan is not the cause for this blessed day.
He purred. StarClan! I don't need them. I'm proud of my family. He looked at his two daughters. They'd get closer! Echopaw ran to Robinwing, purring.
Robinwing glared at Thrushpelt, as if knowing his next thought. Echopaw doesn't even know she has a father.. He flattened his ears, ashamed.
He nodded to Robinwing, and padded towards them. Echopaw looked up at him with huge eyes.
"Robinwing! A big warrior is here!" she scampered behind her mother.
Robinwing lifted her paw. "No, dear. You need to speak to him." she meowed.
Echopaw stepped out. "H-hi.. I'm Echopaw..." She meowed softly, embarrassed.
Thrushpelt blinked. "Oh I know. I've been watching you." He chimed. Echopaw looked bewildered.
"I'm your father." He finished. Echopaw's eyes lit up.
"I do have a father! I do! I do! I do!" She squealed.
Cinderwing padded over. "Do you want to see the territory or not?" She interrupted.
Echopaw blinked. "Oh yes, be there in a second!" She looked at Robinwing, and touched noses, then turned to Thrushpelt. "I can't wait to know more about you! She touched noses with him and ran off, joining her mentor.
He purred watching them leave. He stopped as he felt Robinwing lean against him, intertwining their tails.
She breathed. "They are a crazy bunch."
He nodded. "They will be great." He looked at her. "I know Cinderwing, Cracklefrost and Oakshade aren't yours, but I wish you were proud of them like I am." He meowed, looked down at his paws.
She sighed. "But I am proud. As long as you are." She comforted him. He relaxed.
"Can I tell you a secret?" He asked.
Robinwing's gaze clouded, and she stared into his green orbs. "Anything." She breathed.
"Do you believe in StarClan..?" He asked.
She sniffed. "Do you?" She answered.
"I.." He began.
"I do. And I know you might doubt them, but they are like any other cat, they aren't like LionClan and all the strongest cats out there. They may be wise, but they can't do everything. Bad things happen to a lot of cats, and it was that cats time to go, but we must stay attached to the past and what's gone." She looked down.
"I know you still love Bluefur, and when you join her, you'll want to be her mate.." She flattened her ears.
He looked at her. "She isn't in StarClan." His voice was shaking.
"What?" Robinwing's startled mew sent him back.
He was in the dark forest, running from Cracklefrost and Snowtuft when he saw Bluefur. She was eating a rat, and was in bad shape. "Why are you here!" He called to her.
Suddenly it showed her brutally killing Oakheart, knowing what she'd done. He blinked, understanding as she withered away.
"We should go to sleep, it's been a long day." Robinwing meowed. He nodded, and followed her to the Warriors den. It would be the first time since she was in the nursery. He laid down in his best, and Robinwing curled next to him. He looked up.
Maybe StarClan is real.. Robinwing's right, the past is the past... The words rang in his head as he drifted to sleep.
