Chapter Twenty Nine
Twelve years ago.
"Mommy are you crying again?." Her little voice asked, taking her hand to wipe her mothers face but she stopped her holding her hand in a tight and comforting grip.
"No dear I'm happy..... See." She said immediately faking a smile to put her daughter at ease.
Maddie was a smart girl but to not worry her mother she smiled with her, squeezing her hand.
"Now let's get ready before daddy gets home." With that said she went back to cooking allowing Maddie to jump from her lap.
Racing up the stairs with happiness a light.
She watchs her daughters departure and couldn't help but smile sadly.
A mother who pretends to be perfect infront of her daughter, that was her.
She got pregnant at age sixteen to a man that she thought was her everything but after they got married things changed. He keeps bringing Mistresses and drinking problem even in her pregnant state he hit her whenever she confronted him about it.
But she can never blame him.
Things got worse two years after Maddie was born, he got in a car crash which resulting in his foot broken ruining his dreams of being a football player.
What a perfectly broken family they were.
Atleast she protected her child.
Maddie put on her favorite flower pattern light blue dress with white shose to match. She held up the flower pattern hairpin her mother gave her as a gift.
She was just about done when the front door opens and closes, with excitement she ran down the stairs.
"Daddy!." She shouted in glee, when all eyes look at her she ran behind her mothers leg, embarrassment clear on her face.
Her mother pats her head lightly turning her attention to the guest.
"Mr and Mrs. Grey a pleasure that you could make it." Her mother said shaking the guy's hand and giving thw lady a hug.
When the greetings were over all eyes fell on Maddie, her cheeks burn hot in more embarrassment of the attention.
"This must be sweet Maddie." Mrs. Grey said while tugging on her cheeks, "I heard so much about you." Maddie hid even more behind her mom when the lady releases her cheeks. Mrs. Grey looked a little up set.
"That's just Maddie, she's shy with meeting new people." Her mom said to cover up, Mr. Grey just nodded. The big scary guy with a scary look.
She rubbed her cheeks from the pain.
"What a grandma."
Her little voice whispered.
Before anything else could happen, a set of footsteps entered joining us.
Maddie peeped from behind her mom to see who else is here, in hopes she wishes for her father.
"Ahh nice of you to join us Damion." Mr. Grey said giving the boy a hard pat on his shoulder, it may seem like a friendly gesture but to Maddie it made her even more scared.
Maddie peeped at the boy with short bangs covering his eyes a little, he wore all black clothes which made Maddie a little sad.
For all she knew he was sad.
"Hi Damion I'm Mrs. Tate." Her mother greeted holding out her hand for him to take.
He looked up a little the shield which was his hair moved, now grey bold eyes stare at her mother.
Maddie was so captivated she didn't realize her mother move to introduce her again.
Once again all eyes found her this time with one more pair.
She could only give a shy wave, finding her attention to the floor.
Mr. Grey cleared his throat from the millisecond silence.
"Shall we." Her mother said holding her hand as they lead the guest to the living room.
"Can I offer you guys anything while we wait?." She said clearing the air.
Maddie sat on the ground bear the fire place, consuming in her world playing with het toys, while her mother attends to the guests.
She felt awkward with new people in her surrounding. Normally she would be talkative showing her side of being friendly but with this family it was a whole other story.
Mr. Grey seems like a man you shouldn't cross paths with, a murderous aura glint in his eyes.
While his wife seems to be forcing her composure and also her smile.
Then her eyes fall on Damion a feeling of anger and also a sad energy came from him.
She must have lingered to much on him, his grey eyes snap at her.
She quickly looked away.
Oh that scared me.
But although she looked away, she could still feel his eyes. She gave him a glare wanting him to stop.
She ended up laughing in a fit, his funny face caught her off guard.
It's been like that until the front door slams shuts followed by curses.
Her mother stop what she was doing and quickly ran to the door. Maddie following close behind her mother.
She stop in her tracks hiding behind a plant, seeing how rugged and unkept he looked.
"Honey you are drunk." Her mother said in a hushed tone not wanting the guest to hear.
"Shut up this is my house." He said in pure angered not caring to lower his voice, he came ar her like a mad dog kicking her down.
Her mother layed helpless on the ground holding her stomach. Maddie got scared holding back her cries but she attempted to run to her mother wanting to help her.
But she was stopped in her tracks being held back.
Damion held her tiny form so tight he thought he might break her.
"No I need to save my mommy!." She said through sobs fighting against his hold, she even stomped on his foot but it didn't work.
Damion, knew she it too young to understand but when she gave up fighting he released his hold on her a little.
"I'm sorry you had to see that, little flower." He said the words without thinking twice. He tried to comfort her a little brushing away the hair from her face.
It almost broke his heart at gow red her cheeks were and the tears rolling down her cheeks. He was reaching to touch her face when his mothers voice stop him.
"Damion it's time to go." His mother yelled from downstairs, her voice a strain hallow different from before. A sigh left his mouth taking his hand away and coming to a stand.
He was just about to leave but he just had to say the words.
"Be safe." Those words 'useless' with fake promises. He turn to leave without looking back hands in pocket he walked down the stairs.
She sat on the floor, watching his departing back.
How disappointing all the food mommy prepared wasted.
Maddie didn't hear what they were discussing but as soon as the door closes.
Her father started to curse under hus breath soon after her mother screamed out in pain.
Maddie began to cry harder, running to a corner covering her ears.
Nine years later.
Maddie once again wiped away the blood from her stomach from a cut she in countless bandages up. She curses under her breath, it's the second time this week her step mother kicked her in the stomach.
It didn't surprise her that her father didn't care after all he was a heartless monster.
He took everything from her. A sad reminder of her past.
Six years ago her mother was murdered by the same man she called father. Although he got time in prison it wasn't enough that he planned it as a suicide.
She was haunted by the memory everytime she closes her eyes. The image of him pulling the tigger and her mother in a bloodied mess.
She continue to put bandage around her stomach, trying to forget the image.
"Hey brat! Where's my dinner!." Her step-mom shouted from downstairs, giggling follows after.
A disgust settle in the pit of her stomach, knowing fully well her father was down there.
She didn't respond.
It's only a matter of time until she escape, the very place she called home now a prison.
