A Day Well Spent (Pt.1)

The tension that was growing within the house seemed to have subsided, and everyone was in a good mood for the first time since they started this entire trip. Everyone grabbed a bowl of the ramen Jin and Yoongi had made and gathered around the table to eat. They began to play random games to entertain themselves, starting with charades, which somehow turned into everyone singing and dancing around the table.

"We should go check out the lake after. Maybe we could swim? We haven't gone back there yet and the weather seems nice enough." Hobi loved swimming and wanted to swim at least once before they left their trip in a little over a day. Everyone agreed to the idea.

Namjoon looked over at Jungkook. "Ah Jungkook-ah, you remember our rule?"

"Never go near water when I'm by myself, and if I'm near water I need to stay within arms reach of someone, I know." He rolled his eyes, but was slightly happy to see his hyungs protective side come out again, as were the rest of the members.

"Aren't we suppose to wait like half an hour or whatever before swimming after eating or don't you like die or something?" Jimin was trying to be comical.

"You won't die but you get cramps. He's right though we should wait a little bit before swimming, we could just hang in here for a bit first," Jin suggested. After eating the members all cleaned up after themselves and headed back to the living room.

Namjoon ran upstairs to grab one of his books, and gathered back on the couch. Jungkook sat down next to him and asked to see what book he was reading now.

It was some poetry book, which Jungkook decided he wasn't interested in hearing about. He grabbed the book out of Namjoon's hands and began to run away with it. The members all watched to see how their leader would react. They knew Jungkook was just being silly for attention, but did Namjoon know that?

Namjoon never got up from the couch, "Ah Jungkook! I'm too full of noodles for this!" he said while laughing. Jungkook was laughing too, and placed the book on the table that was in the living room.

Taehyung and Jimin smiled at each other, they were happy to see Namjoon truly was himself again.

The members decided to play more games in the living room, they had found some board games in a cabinet under the TV. One that caught their interest was Battleship. They paired up, Yoongi chose Jungkook, Jimin chose Taehyung and Jin, and Hobi chose Namjoon. They played a few rounds, and Jungkook was getting disappointed because his team kept losing.

Namjoon saw the disappointment on Jungkook's face. " How about one more round?" he suggested. They played again and this time Jungkook and Yoongi finally won the game.

"Wait! I have another idea!" Jin said. His ideas were usually pretty ridiculous, so the members were already laughing at him.

"We have never been in this house before, ya? And half the rooms we haven't looked in, right?" Jin began.

"Are you saying you want us to explore the house or something?" Yoongi asked.

"No! Even better, we should play hide and seek!"

An "ooooOOOooOO" echoed among all the members. They all thought it'd be fun.

"You can either choose to hide alone or hide with a partner," the oldest explained, "One condition though..."

Everyone was listening to Jin intently. "I get to be the first seeker, hide by the time I get to 50..GO! One! Two-" Jin began counting immediately.

All the members scrambled to their feet and began trying to find places to hide.

Yoongi ran into a room alone and crawled under the bed, Jimin decided to follow Taehyung and they ran upstairs and hid in the bathtub.

"Joonie-hyung wasn't kidding when he said this was disgusting." Jimin looked around at all the stains and dirt on the walls.

The house still freaked Hobi out, and he didn't want to hide by himself, he ran into the room he saw Yoongi go in and crawled under the bed with him.

Jungkook grabbed Namjoon's hand and pulled him into the kitchen pantry with him, trying to be quiet as he opened and then closed the door. The pantry was pretty big, so they had no trouble fitting both of them.

"This is probably the first place he'll look," Namjoon whispered.

"Nah, he'll definitely start with the bedrooms."

The pantry was pitch black inside and as Jungkook began to scoot back towards the wall of the pantry, he felt something hit him in the back of the head, making a loud knocking sound.

"Ow, what the hell?"

"What was that? Are you okay?" Namjoon reached out trying to find Jungkook in the dark.

Jungkook reached his arm out trying to feel around the wall for what he just hit his head on, "There's a doorknob on the back wall?" he was extremely confused. "Hyung there's another door in here!"

They heard Jin yell from the living room. "Fifty! Ready or not, here I come!" He could be heard going up the stairs first.

"Should we open it?" Namjoon asked his maknae, he knew Jungkook was the very adventurous type, him not so much.

Without hesitation Jungkook slowly turned the handle of the door and began to open it. As he opened the door he looked and could make out a staircase leading down. "There's a basement!" Jungkook yelled.

Namjoon felt Jungkook shift his body towards the opening of the door and grabbed his arm, "Are you crazy?! It's pitch black down there! And there's stairs!"

"Hyung it'll be fine I just want to check it out. I bet if we hide down there Jinnie hyung would literally never find us."

"Yeah he wouldn't find us because we'd be dead with broken necks at the bottom of the stairs! I said no Jungkook. We can check it out afterwards, and get a flash light or something first. Okay? I'm not risking you getting hurt , especially if it's just me around . The last thing I need is for everyone to assume I hurt you."

"Uh fine, you're so boring sometimes."

"As long as it keeps you from getting hurt, I'll make sure to stay as boring as possible."

"Who puts a basement door in the back of a kitchen pantry?!" Jungkook thought it was a terrible house design.

"I'm sure the basement door was there first. They must've just built the pantry around it. Which means they didn't want people using it anymore, weird."

"That makes sense. This is why your IQ is like a million."

Suddenly the pantry door flew open, and Jin was standing there with the rest of the members. "Congratulations, you two won!"

Jungkook turned to Namjoon. "I told you!"

He then turned back to the rest of them. "Hyungs! There's a basement! The door is in the back of this pantry!" This caught everyone's full attention as they all tried to look in to see the door.

"Yeah and I had to stop this kid from trying to go down there in the dark! Does anyone know if there are any flashlights here?"

"There's some in the living room cabinet, I saw them earlier while pulling out the board games." Taehyung ran to the living room to grab them.

"Jungkook." Everyone went silent when they recognized that Yoongi was using his 'protective but stern voice' which could be very intimidating at times. "Why would you try to go down into a dark ass basement , down stairs, in a house you're unfamiliar with? Does that sound like a smart idea?"

"No hyung."

"Half the wood in this place is rotted to hell. Just be smart, and be careful, okay?"

"Yes hyungie."

Taehyung handed a flashlight to Jungkook and Jin.

"No," Yoongi said as he gestured for Jungkook to give him the flashlight. "I'll go first. If the stairs break or something I'd rather it happen to me."

"Over my dead body." Jin pushed his way to the front of the group and began walking into the pantry and to the door. Yoongi went behind him, and the rest of the members followed. Jin flashed his light down the stairs. This was the creepiest staircase he had ever seen. It was covered in dirt and cracks, and the steps were all slightly crooked.

"Do we really have to explore this? Jungkook can't you just use your imagination?" Jin hesitated.

"Hyung I want to see it. Just this one time!"

Sometimes Jin hated himself for being a complete pushover when it came to his youngest member. This was one of those times.

He slowly put pressure on each wooden step to make sure it wouldn't break before moving forward. Thankfully, all the steps seemed to be fully intact. Once everyone was downstairs, Jimin spotted a light switch and flipped it, turning on a big overhead light in the middle of the basement. It looked like one of those long narrow lights you see on the ceiling of hospitals.

Hobi was clinging to Jimin. "Nope. Not doing this. Have fun everyone, I've seen enough, Jungkook enjoy your freaky basement." Hobi turned around and ran back up the stairs before anyone even had a chance to reply. "I'm just going to go...check on him," Jimin said while smirking, he also then turned around and ran back up the stairs.

To say the basement was freaky was an understatement. It looked like something out of some serial killer horror movie. The entire basement was made of wooden walls, and a dirt floor. There were two different rooms connected by a big arched opening. There were abandoned chairs, an abandoned fridge, an abandoned bathtub, and other various items.

"Is that blood?!" Jin screamed, pointing to some of the abandoned household appliances.

Taehyung clutched his hand over his mouth. "I'm gonna throw up! That's disgusting! Enjoy your basement Kookie, I'm out of here too!" Taehyung disappeared back up the stairs.

"Ew! Nobody touch anything! Pretty sure none of us have had our tetanus shot in years. Ahhh Jungkook this is gross! " Yoongi was also ready to run back upstairs, but also wanted to be the one to keep Jungkook safe down there.

Jin and Yoongi stood there and watched while both Namjoon and Jungkook looked around the basement. Jungkook and Namjoon wandered into the other section of the basement.

"Neither of you touch ANYTHING over there!" Yoongi yelled after them, he and Jin didn't move from their spot.

The other section of the basement didn't have much in it, although there was some metal chair or bed looking thing.

"What is this?" Jungkook made his way over to it.

"That's like one of those old gurneys or chairs they would use for patients in hospitals like a hundred years ago. I don't know why it has arm straps though. Maybe it was for crazy people."

" I'll give you 100$ to go lay on it."

"Jungkook that's gross!"

"Will you give me 100$ if I go lay on it?"

"No. Yoongi hyung said not to touch anything. And I agree with him. Seriously Kook, don't touch anything."

The two roamed away from the chair , when suddenly the maknae's eyes landed on a little tin box tucked away in the corner of the floor. "Hyung, what do you think is in that?"

"Probably nothing important. Must you be curious about every little thing?"

"Yes," Jungkook replied as he walked over and picked the tin box up.

"Jungkook!" Namjoon slapped the box out of his hand and it made a loud crash noise as it fell back onto the floor, opening the box and spilling out what looked like old photos and newspaper articles.

"What the hell are you two doing?" Jin and Yoongi were now in the room with them. They both saw the metal tin box and it's contents spilled out onto the floor.

"Sorry, I tripped over it," Jungkook lied. He knew Yoongi wouldn't scold him, but didn't feel like hearing an earful from Jin for touching something.

The members all gazed at the spilled out contents on the floor.
