Day Nine
My grandma hugs me tightly, in fear that I will slip away again. I rest my body against hers, as I know I'm in defeat. She asks me carefully, "What has happened, my son?"
I look down and bite my lips in disappointment of myself. My grandma calls me her son, as she has no son other than having a daughter which is my mom. I slowly reply, "I've been doing bad things grandma."
My grandma points to the tv screen, where my face is being widely broadcasted everywhere. A no-name culprit, they claim as I watch the bitter police fighting scene with my grandma. The body of Seungcheol comes up in the news, as my grandma holds my hand gently. She asks, "Did you do that?"
I nod sadly and weakly, as she pats the back of my back. She pats my head as well, and replies, "Don't worry...I will not let my grandson be taken from me. Your parents are in a different city for a trip, but they seem to completely forget about you. I wonder why...are they getting dementia at such a young age?"
I smile weakly at my grandma's naive manner, and reply, "No grandma...I think they are just busy."
My grandma doesn't ask further questions, as she motions me to follow her to the kitchen. I sit down, as she makes some warm soup and rice, urging me to eat as she claims, "Your face is so thin..why aren't you eating? Are you hiding somewhere dangerous?"
I shake my head and reply back, "No..I just didn't feel the need to eat grandma. The whole country is looking for me."
She nods while she sighs, watching me eat the soup and rice. She also makes some galbi, and cooks some eggs with soy sauce, placing them in front of them. I eat like I have been starving for days, devouring all the side dishes she has made for me. She urges me to slow down, handing me a cup of warm water afterwards. After eating like a king, she leads me to my room, where she says, "Go to sleep...and get some rest. I'll make some warm cookies when you wake up."
An automatic smile flashes on my face, as I nod to her statement. Falling asleep instantly, I get the relaxation that my body needs. The stiffness from laying on various places, and the remembrance of stabbing and killing Seungcheol, the nightmares repeat itself. Soonyoung was right, it is going to take me forever to live with them. Even after my death probably.
I wake up slowly as I realize it's early at dawn the next day. I rub my eyes slowly, heading towards the bathroom to take a shower. I haven't showered for days, using the warm water to rub the dried spots of blood that could be seen on my body. The scars and wounds that I have received, after fighting for many days. I throw away the clothes that Soonyoung gave me, knowing that it will be contributing to my nightmares if I keep them. After changing into a black shirt, and gray sweats, I head towards the living room. My grandma is sleeping peacefully on the couch, as I cover her small body with a blanket.
She is tightly holding onto a light, green shirt, which I instantly remember it as my grandfather's favored procession. I head towards the kitchen, grabbing the warm cookie that is sitting on the plate. I sit carefully down on the chair, to not awaken her. I take the tablet resting on table, and being searching for my name.
The nameless suspect.
I have no name.
The name Jeon Wonwoo, is completely erased. All my friends have claimed that they have never known me, wanting to protect themselves. Soon knowing that I need to meet a few more people, I start looking at the social media sites. Kim Mingyu, Hong Jisoo, Boo Seungkwan, and Lee Seokmin...where are they?
Seokmin is the easiest to find, as pictures pop up of him being the boyfriend of a famous singer. His social media life is full of just him and girlfriend, it will be difficult to meet him. I remember that Mingyu is an old friend from high school, and his dream is to become a chef. Yet no name of Kim Mingyu pops up anywhere. Hong Jisoo, an older hyung from a church ministry that I sometimes attended, he is famous for singing and playing his guitar. Yet his name is completely deleted from the church website, no hints of where he can be.
Boo Seungkwan?
A trot (Korean country music) singer, in Jeju Island. How could I go there as I have only five more days. As the clock hits 7 o'clock, my grandma stirs from her sleep. She yawns quietly as she sees me in the kitchen, making her way over to me. I smile back at her, as she pats the back of my shoulder. My grandma asks, "Want some food?"
I nod without hesitation, feeling the same warmth from her, never changing. She begins to cook, as I decide to walk around the house doing chores. I clean the floors of the restroom, and the toilet as her back would hurt from bending over. I did the laundry for her, as she used to always complain that I never helped her, along with Bohyuk. I make my way over to my grandma as she calls me over, sitting with me to eat breakfast so she can take her vitamins.
After having a hearty breakfast, I help do the dishes. The sun is shining though the patio door, as the curtains slightly covering them for shade. But my grandma is quiet all of a sudden, as she is looking out the window. After a while, she cusses under her breathe as she sees something outside. Hurriedly, she walks to my room, grabbing some items and stuffing them into a bag. I didn't notice until I see her packing some food in disposable containers. "Grandma, what's wrong?"
The doorbell rings, as my grandma replies quickly, "Go Wonwoo, they're here. Make sure to eat properly, and I will always stay your side."
"G-grandma.?"
"I said go!"
The doorbell rings even more, with knocking on the door. She places a knife into my backpack as well, zipping it up and placing a jacket into my shivering hands. She leads me the patio, where I could find an escape route if I jump off. "I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE ! GET THE SUSPECT!"
My grandma kisses me on the cheek, and says, "I will always protect my grandson."
I shake my head continuously, as she keeps pushing me outside the patio. "No grandma. You can't be taken as an accomplice!"
She didn't listen to me as I am now fully pushed out of the house, as she locks the sliding door. She covers the curtains so that she wouldn't be seen from me, as I hear the police taking over our house. She shouts anxiously, "He's not here!"
As soon as the curtains are pulled back, I slide on my hat and jump off the patio, running out of the area. My eyes are wet with tears again, as I know my grandma will not be able to get out easily. I look at the backpack she gave me, making sure I am safe as I head towards the alleyways. I could hear the police nearing me, as I jump through different alleyways and shortcuts, until I hide behind a wall. I look at my hand, looking at the pen writing I have done before nodding, as I start to make my way to find someone else that could help me, and not get caught by the police. I'm going to live out these five more days, and I am going to fight for the ones that have protected me, and I am going to kill that creator of this fucking stupid game.
