You sighed after you crossed the door to enter the studio once more. Throughout Joey's monologue, you couldn't do a thing, however much you wanted to punch Mr. Drew in the face.
So you took it out on the wall next to you, punching the sepia-toned wall with all the anger you had.
"Bull! How could he even say that?" You vented, still fuming. "If we get out of here I'm going to strangle him with his own intestines!"
Henry chuckled nervously, laying a kind hand on your shoulder and gently steering you away from the door. "When we get out of here, you're going home," he reminded you.
"Fine...but you better give that nasty old Drew a shiner for me!"
He laughed and slung an arm around your shoulder. "Wouldn't dream of forgetting that!"
You gave him a look but broke into laughter. He joined you, but only for a few moments before you both realized...you had to get things started.
"Man, you won't believe how much all this running affects the joints of this old man," Henry said, leaning against the wall in front of the ink machine.
Your hoodie's antenna swung as you spun to look at him, also feeling a rather heavyweight in your pocket as you did. You pulled it out...
"What is this doing here?" You asked, trying to not throw the object into the air. Though you were familiar with the device, Henry was not, and he reached for it curiously.
"Is this something from your world?" He asked, holding the device as it would shatter in his hands. You laughed at him, before taking it again and powering it on.
"You're seeing the future here Mister Stein!" You said cheerfully. "This is called a Nintendo ds."
The little device came with one game in the designated slot, a Mario game where Bowser swallowed the brothers. After a few minutes of showing Henry how to play and messing around with the characters, you finally got to the business of getting the ink machine turned on.
"It's a shame that all this ink is going to ruin that device soon," Henry sighed. You nodded, going with him to the film room to adjust the pressure.
Still, the two of you pressed on, watching as the ink in the room swelled up around your ankles and legs.
Since you knew now that the door no longer gave you any hope of escape, this time when the time came, you went with Henry to the machine after turning it on.
"It's strange. How come the doorway gets boarded up?" You asked. "I mean, if the ink demon wanted to get you...it would be easier to not board the door up.
Henry didn't have an answer for you. The question hung in the air until you made it to the boarded-up doorway. "So...you sure you want to see?"
Of course, you did. There wasn't a whole lot for you to do (and you definitely didn't want to risk having it catch you upstairs alone.
"Duh. I'm here already and besides, I have nothing to gain from staying by the exit. I've played through that moment countless times, so guess what? I'm gonna live that moment."
Henry couldn't convince you otherwise, so now you walked with him to the ink machine.
"You ever wonder why Bendy boarded up the doorway?" You asked, bringing up the argument again. "We're the only ones up here, right?"
"Yes....but the boards are on the outside of the door. So how could he have done that?"
You didn't have an answer for Henry, but you stuck close by, in case the demon jump scared him a bit early. Well, it could have been so that you weren't as afraid because seeing the demon pop up and start to chase you was so much worse than when you were behind the screen.
At about the halfway point, you started laughing as you ran away, which gave you a little boost until the two of you crashed through the floorboards and down to the lower levels of the studio.
"Well, kiddo, ready for your first loop?"
You nodded, getting the ink valve turned so that the ink levels would drop. "Not sure if you'd call this a proper loop since neither of us knows if Sammy is gonna be an issue."
"After what happened to you? Perhaps not."
Well, that was all good and all. But you needed to find a valve to press on at all, so you had to set out to find Jack.
"Say, Henry. Do we have to squish Jack with the box?" You asked, sighing. "Man...didn't we tell Sammy that we wouldn't harm the lost ones?"
Henry paused in his footsteps. "Hm...if you can figure out a way for us to get the valve without harming Jack, then go for it."
Hands in your pockets, you grinned cheekily. "Sweet. Alright, I'll be where you normally lure jack. Not in the exact place where he goes splat but in the area. Can you get him to that point?"
Henry nodded, and you shook a deal, in a "don't die before we meet up again." Kind of way.
You watched him go off in one direction for a while until you turned in the opposite direction to find where you were supposed to go.
At some point you began playing the gaming device as you walked, eventually making it to the hallway you knew Jack would be in.
There, you sat on the floor a ways away from where Jack and Henry would meet up, booting up the gaming system to pass the time.
See, right on time. There was something now, a wet inky creature almost pushing itself into your lap to watch you play your game.
Wait, actually that was odd. Didn't Jack prefer to be alone? You would have spoken up in alarm, but with the knowledge, you were armed with, refrained from doing so.
Mario, Luigi, and Bowser kept Jack entertained, and you were careful to play the game in a way where you could play it and not crowd Jack.
"Hey...y/n. I found this log. Want me to play it?" Henry came up now, holding an audio log.
You glanced up carefully to see what he was holding up Jack's audio log. Carefully observing Jack's behavior-watching fascinated as Mario and Luigi traveled through Bowser's body. The whole scene made you giddy, like having a dog or cat sit on your lap.
"Hey...uh, hey buddy..." You said softly. "Sorry, bud...Henry and I need the valve. You can keep watching I just...we need the valve, big guy..."
Jack jumped in surprise, almost scooting off and away.
"Hey wait! It's okay. We're not gonna hurt you. You can watch me play, we just have to move forward."
Hesitantly, the creature on your lap handed the valve to you, and you slid it to Henry, who now leaned against one of the walls as you had no intentions of getting up now. But now the creature wanted to keep watching you play your game, for some reason. When you tried standing up, he would push down.
Eventually, you shrugged helplessly at Henry. "I can't move," you giggled. "I'll meet up with you later."
He nodded and opened the door that would eventually lead to the music room."I'll come to get you later, kid. Don't go anywhere."
"Where would I go?" You called after him, but the door was closed and he could no longer hear you.
Jack seemed happy that you no longer had any risk of going anywhere, and settled comfortably to watch you play.
The wooden floors were not the best thing to sit on; already you knew one leg was asleep and your behind was sore from the hard flooring. Still, it helped Henry continue, so it was a good sacrifice.
"Oh...sheep...where have you taken the goat?"
"Screw you, Lawrence!" You exclaimed. "We're having fun!"
Sure enough, like the most persistent of migraines, Sammy opened the door from the other side. Boris was behind him, Henry close by.
"Wow, sure looks like the party wagon," you laughed. "Seriously I can't move. Jack won't let me get up."
Like Jack, Boris crept to you, curious at what you were holding. He knelt on your side, careful not to block your view. You rolled your eyes but laughed anyways.
"You two have a plan to get this taken care of?" You asked, making Mario and Luigi fall off platforms out of boredom.
"Yeah..I was thinking that we could sort of let Jack follow you as long as you had the device. Or something."
"You told me you had a plan!" Sammy exclaimed. "That's not even close to a plan."
Boris looked at you, and though he didn't-or couldn't-say a word, Jack moved off of your lap and let you stand up. "Alright, let me stretch and we can head off," you sighed, stretching your limbs.
Henry and Sammy stopped bickering to nod at you. "Fine. We'll head to Boris' safe house. Is Jack coming with us?"
Jack grabbed your leg, so you nodded, thinking that Jack had now grown a fondness for the game. "Yup. He's with us now, if only to watch me play the game."
You probably know the song I referenced in the title right?
The best part about this fic is the banter between reader and Sammy it just gives me life
