Prologue
The world is ending.
It is the year 2130 and Earth is being bombarded by rogue asteroids with a strange radioactive element not known to mankind.
Not even the government's space programs could match the asteroids.
Whole countries were being dessimated, especially the ones that are smaller.
Two years later, the barrages ceased, but there was little joy.
The radioactive matter left behind began to affect the surrounding people in a nasty way.
The effects are so: The symptoms don't show until a few days later. There is a yellowing of the skin because the golden element is taking over the body. The eyes turn golden there is a feeling of exhaustion. The heart starts beating irregularly and the body starts to feel weak. Limbs start to turn black-blue and become difficult to control. Soon, the body collapses, if it isn't on a bed already. What is really happening is inside the body. The element attacks the heart and its cells. It controls the cell to make it eat itself alive. The blood starts to spew out of the heart and not to its true destination. The limbs loose their blood flow and turn their blue-black color. Then the element attacks the brain. It shuts down all controls to the limbs and leaves the body helpless.
All that's left is to wait out a slow and painful death by internal bleeding.
The name of the disease is called "Heart Eater".
Fitting, isn't it?
The people began to panic and their governments tried to subdue them, but many were overthrown. Countries turned to anarchy and chaos ruled the world.
Only those of strong governments, such as Britain and America, were able to calm the people and take action.
Communities were made to isolate people from the outside world. A glass dome surrounded each Community to ward off the golden element and isolating itself from the outside world.
Programs were set to clean up the uknown element, but they didn't have the right gear, thus the symptims spread to the workers.
The golden element looked very similar to gold or diamond, which caused thiefs to chip off pieces and sell them on black markets, which was a terrible idea. Some black markets were actually in Communities, and when the people were exposed, it was total annihilation.
Many scientists have tried with failure to unlock the secrets of the element. It was named Gyldencwild, as a tribute to the old Anglo-Saxon language. It meant "golden death". What a fitting name.
The studying of Gyldencwild was soon forbidden, for fear that its radioactivity might spread to civilians.
There was only one man that dared to defy his Community's government.
His name was Rondel Evans. His Community has condemned him many times, but it didn't stop his research. He was later presumed dead due to long exposure to Gyldencwild. His remains were never found, not even in his own laboratory. Rumor has it that Evans has found another use for Gyldencwild and it was actually his Community government that had him killed because of his findings.
What he found out, we may never know.
