Chapter 34
WARNING: The words uttered after the very last words will shatter and break your heart, that is... I mean it might, no promises. I don't know how you'll react to shit I do.
Recap: Virgil is dead, Roman's Heartbroken, Patton's devastated, Logan... Logan is something.
Roman sat there, his heart beating and shattered to pieces. Everything was feeling numb and he wasn't sure exactly how he was going to go on without the only one he's ever retorted those three words to.
Roman had leaned his head on the dash as he let the thoughts flow through him, it wasn't until minutes later that Roman had noticed a slight change in the car's surroundings.
Before he had taken the moment to look Roman began to wonder about the possibilities, either someone could have exited the house to check on Roman, that was probably the logical explanation but there's another option... one that Roman had never considered, not until he had turned his head to see a flash of color where a person should be.
Roman's heart had swelled but also hurt, the flash of color had been red, just a random color had meant so much to him... to him it meant that feeling that felt so electric, it felt so warm and heartfelt, it felt so amazingly indescribable and now- now it hurt.
Roman couldn't stop but to stare at the flickering color, he wanted to tare his eyes away because every moment he stared was another moment he lacked the realization that his love was not coming back.
Virgil tried, he tried his best to make it more and more evident that he was there but he wasn't sure how much longer he could keep his hair changing colors, or changing shades of red that is.
He wanted to scream and shout "I'm here!" But he couldn't and it was his fault. He put himself in this mess... he had to get himself out. In spight of himself, Virgil quickly grabbed Roman's face and kissed him in hopes of somehow, someway that if all those stupid fairytales that Roman is constantly talking about are somehow true...
Somehow.
Roman had felt the side of his cheek begin to burn along with this lips with that same electric feeling that Virgil would give when he held his cheek and kissed him... but, he wasn't here.
Roman had tried to turn his head but something was pulling him back into that same position. When Roman had finally focused on what was in front of him, he began to realize that there was a flickering image of Virgil who had been holding his cheek and seemingly kissing him.
Roman began to realize what Virgil was trying to do. Even though it felt like air, Roman began to kiss back. The kiss became fierce and desperate as he was clinging onto Virgil. He repeatedly told himself that he wouldn't let him go, not again.
Minutes passed and Virgil was still just a faded ghost... he was there and he could be seen, maybe never touched but seen.
The two had pulled away in realization that they'd just have to make this work.
As Roman gazed into Virgil's tear-glinted eyes, he'd began to realize that he'd never dated a ghost before, especially one that was Virgil... Maybe, just maybe... it would all play out to be okay.
Virgil tried not to cry as he had begun to realize that he'd never truly feel the embrace of the man he loves, but at least he could still call him his... and that-- that's Not That Strange, is it?
