Well, for one thing, I was already in a commitment when Shehzer decided to drop the "L" word on me. Now you tell me, how inappropriate is it? allowing myself to develop feelings for a man I would never marry?

Even though he is well....not ugly...

MINA: ...but I was raised to be smarter than just falling for a pretty face and prettier words. Whatever feelings I had for him, I had to tamp them down, because IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO at that point in time.

I am beyond glad that I'm not stuck with Areeb in a loveless marriage, but I'm also glad that I'm not the one who cheated on my fiance. (Yes. Even saying things like, 'I like you too' would have been cheating in my dictionary)

Then there was the fact that I had known Areeb for longer. I trusted him more than I trusted Shehzer (Who wouldn't?).

It took me a long time to come to terms with Shehzer's love for me, because this is how it works. You simply can't switch feelings on and off at will. Yes, Shehzer was pining away, and wallowing in misery...

MINA: ...but I needed to know that he was worth loving. For my own peace of mind.

To all you girls out there (and boys too), Don't sell yourself short. Just because they're attractive, and rich, and they happen to make your heart flutter, doesn't mean you can break commitments, and old friendships for their sake, and ride off into the sunset with them, as rainbows and unicorns shoot out of everyone's asses. This isn't a romance novel, for Pizza's sake!!

MINA: ...you have to make sure your love is pure, and unaffected; doesn't hurt others around you. You have to make sure you're this person's priority, not convenience, (and you have to make sure that they are yours). Not to be a wet blanket-reality-check, but I'm sure Shehzer wouldn't have wallowed in misery for an eternity. True he'd be missing out majorly, on the awesomeness that is ME, but I'm sure he'd have found someone, that he could be content with. :)
