≈Epilogue :

EIGHT YEARS LATER

~*~ Docia ~*

"Mommy, daddy ! Wake up ! It's time to open the gifts, c'mon ! " I groaned and tried to cover my face with the blanket, but I then felt someone's small hand on my cheek.

"If you pinch my cheek, I'm burning those gifts down." I warned with a singing tone of voice so it wouldn't sound too harsh, not once opening my eyes.

"No ! Mommy, c'mon ! Daddy ! "

"Daddy, your daughter is calling you." I shook Dorian a bit, but this fool wasn't bothered. He continued to sleep like those two monsters didn't just storm in our room and then jump on our bed like it was a bouncy castle.

"It's not only my daughter." He mumbled, "Kennedy, we heard you, we're coming."

"Okay ! But if you're not downstairs in five minutes, we're coming back. Come Kelia ! " Their little footsteps faded away, letting me know that they were gone.

Dorian yawned loudly and slightly smacked my butt, "Wake up, mommy. It's Christmas, hurray." He said with that lifeless tone of voice.

"I love your enthusiasm. It's all about that Christmas vibe." I sarcastically commented and got another slap on my booty.

"You better chill before I cut your hands off."

"You know you like this, bad girl." He placed his head on my chest and got comfortable, "They're still comfortable."

"Get off me." I caressed his hair.

"MOMMY ! DADDY ! "

"It's your fault if she's so hype all the time. She never gets tired."

"Who is talking ? I know it's not my Lola Bunny." I chuckled at the childish nickname he gave me years ago, "Always trying to get Daddy's sugar."

"Ew ! It sounds awful. I was never a fan of this whole ''Daddy'' thing. Please, stop."

I felt him moving up on me and I then felt his mouth on mine, "But you were calling me Daddy Do-Do the other day."

"Shut up. I do not recall. And go brush your teeth nigga. Are you trying to kill me on Christmas day, on Jesus day ? Really ? You should be ashamed."

"Be grateful to smell it, it means that I'm still alive and so you gained another day with me, the awesome Dorian himself. Oh, but since you wan--"

"DADDY ! DADDY ! MOMMY ! MOMMY ! " Our four years old screamed from downstairs. Dorian laughed slightly and got out of the bed.

Meet Kennedy Suzanne Willkingston. This little girl had been a little ball of energy since birth, even before that. Already in my belly she couldn't stop kicking her arms and feet to make her presence known. And her birth wasn't a calm event. Lost my water at RJ and Lani's wedding, during the ceremony at Church, when they were about to say the famous I do. Yes, she wanted to make a remarquable entry into the world. Of course, we didn't go immediately to the hospital and waited for them to officially become husband and wife. I couldn't let us go without this happening.

"She's going to drive me crazy, Lord ! " I whined, kicking my feet in the air. I finally opened my eyes and almost got blind since they weren't ready to receive that sudden light. I blinked, letting them adjust. This was one of the toughest morning of my life, "Damn ! "

"What happened ? " My husband asked coming out of the bathroom, brushing his teeth.

"Nothing. I'm going downstairs before the poor girl lose her voice." We stayed silent for a moment, thinking about it and then shook our heads, saying naaah in unison. It would be really cruel to let that happen.

"MOMM--"

"I AM COMING ! " I screamed back, tying my robe. I put my slippers on and I was soon on my way to the living room, "She's lucky I love her to death and to be cute also."

"Mama ! " Meet Kelia, our two years old daughter. Complete opposite to Kennedy, but somewhat they were always together. Well, I guess because one Kelia saw her big sister as a role model and so she was following her everywhere; and two they were the perfect match for each other since opposites attract.

"Hey, baby ! " I bent down and picked her up.

"Finally ! " Kennedy squealed and clapped her hands happily. Christmas was definitely her favorite day of the year after her birthday. Don't let me start on it.

"Wait, we have to wait on daddy."

"Okay ! Can I open the biggest first ? I think I know what it is." She rubbed her hands like a villain in the cartoons. You know when they think that they have a bomb ass plan to catch whoever they want to catch. Yeah, I think you got it. She even added the laugh.

"Well, we'll see."

"I'm here, let's start the party ! " Dorian entered in yelling and popped a bottle of champagne, causing the girls to scream and laugh, getting crazy with him. And me on the other hand only wanted to go back to my bed to sleep all day.

"Ain't nuthin' but a gangster party." Kenny began to sing and next thing you know her dad is blasting music in the living room.

Now, you see where she got her personality from. She was her father's twin while Kelia was a mix of both of us. She was mainly calm, but she could be the life of the party as well. She just needed to be in that mood.

As the typical mother that I was, I took the camera and began to record everything. Since our wedding, we had a lot of videos filled with memories. Every now and then, I loved to sit down and watch them. It was always making me feel happier than I already was. Memories are precious and thanks to the new technology now, we could keep them somewhere and just live them again and over again.

It was a pure blessing to see those two little girls, our angels, coming into our lives; mainly after so many years of fear to not be able to be a mother again. I wasn't feeling like carrying a baby at first, but Dorian and I made a few compromises, which some were about the kids of course. We agreed to try the natural method and if it didn't work, we were going to discuss and then try the other options. We tried and I got pregnant with Kennedy. It was a pure surprise to me, but I was happy. Kelia wasn't planned, but we never regretted her existence. We were very shocked at first when we found out that I got pregnant a second time, but we quickly got over it and welcomed our second baby girl with as much love as the first one.

They were our bundle of joy.

I didn't abandon my idea of adoption though and after talking this over, we finally decided to go for it. But we still didn't know if we wanted a new born or a child a bit older. But first of all, we had to do all the paperworks and it'll take time, enough time to take a final decision.

"Ain't nuthin' but a gangster party." The three of them sang together while dancing. Well, I don't think that Kelia had all the words correctly since she was still in the early stage of talk, but she was definitely turning up with them. I laughed catching everything.

"It's Christmas aka Jesus day, happy birthday homie, open your gifts--"

I cut Dorian off during his freestyle, "That was wack af. Please never again. Pleeease ! " I told him honestly. My poor ears couldn't take it.

"You're just a hater."

"Mommy, what af means ? " Kenny asked, looking at me with her brown and bright eyes. You could see a bit of Dorian's Asian side with them, but then again not so much. Those genes were really not strong. First off, you couldn't even notice that Dorian had an Asian's heritage without him telling you personally, so I wasn't too shocked about it. But we'll make sure that they learned as much as possible about their ancestors' culture.

I played with her ponytail and chuckled, "Nothing important. Just forget about it."

"Okay. Can we open the gifts now ? "

"Of course and you can start with the biggest one. Keke you can start with this one." I handed a present to our youngest daughter.

"Welp ? " She then handed it to her dad.

Dorian smiled nodding his head, "Yup ! Come here."

"Mommy, you can help me to carry it please. It's heavy ! " I moved it somewhere so she could have enough place to open it. Once she did, you couldn't stop her from jumping happily everywhere in the living room. She was just so excited, "Oh my Lord, oh my Lord, oh my Lord ! This is my bike ! It's so pretty ! Thank you ! Thank you, thank you, thank you ! "

No, we never told our children about Santa. Well, we never made them believe that ''fantasy'' as Dorian calls it. They knew the truth since the beginning. Dorian didn't want to lie to them about that. I was a bit skeptical about it at first, but he never believed in Santa either and it didn't ruin him.

So when Kennedy asked about it and could understand, we told her the truth and of course we also told her to not crush her friend's heart at school with it. And she was doing a great job keeping it as a ''top secret''. Yeah, you can't be that blunt with children. Kelia was still too young to understand that, well it wasn't one of her worries anyways, so we just let her live. But when she'll ask, we'll have the answers.

"You're welcome, baby. You deserve it, you were very nice this year and you're doing very well at school for your first year."

"Yeah and I'm going to continue to be a good girl ! "

THE NEXT DAY

~*~ Dorian ~*~

I looked at my phone while shaking my head, not believing what I was seeing. It was Ben, my mother's ex-boyfriend, that got in the car accident --that caused her death-- with her. After all those years, he was now trying to reach me so we could talk.

Talk about what ?

I had absolutely nothing to tell him. After the big scene at the hospital, I only saw him at her funeral and then we went our separate ways. And it was good as it was. I wasn't mad at him or anything, but why would we be cool with each other for ? Mainly now.

Yes, he had a love story with my mother, but that was our only connection, but it wasn't a strong one honestly. First time I ever met him was at the hospital and it didn't went too well. But hey, I matured since then and I was willing to make some efforts and act like a grown ass man. We could meet, I guess. In his text message, he said that he just wanted to check up on me, even if we weren't close and didn't know each other. He simply wanted to make sure that the son of the woman he was in love with was doing okay.

"Thanks you so much for that excellent breakfast, wifey. It was amazing." I walked in her office and kissed her cheeks, "What are you doing ? I thought that you have writer's block. It went away ? "

"Not completely, but I had a moment of inspiration."

"Can I read it ? " I looked above her shoulder to see something, but she hid her work from me with her arms.

"Nope."

"Oh I see, it's gonna be the same thing again. I'll be able to read it only when it'll be done." I pouted a little, but hey I guess that I was used to it now. It was the exact same thing for the first book: Nothing Is Impossible, her auto-fiction that came out about three years ago and that inspired a lot of people all around the world.

It was wonderful to see how she could connect with so many different people and how she motivated them all to overcome the battles and wars of life with her own story. It was just wow. Her fans hadn't enough of her, so they asked for another book, to continue to follow Docia's journey. She wasn't too sure about this at first, but then she changed her mind and decided to finally do it. She didn't want to disappoint her fans neither herself.

And if you're wondering, yes she was still a therapist. But you can add an author to it now. And a mother and wife too. But to sum up everything that she was, we're just going to call her a Black Queen.

Proposing was the best thing to do.

It literally changed my life and only for the better. Being a husband wasn't easy every day, mainly when I was trying to be a perfect one --though I know damn well it's impossible-- but I wouldn't change it for anything. Everything was great as it was. And cherry on the cake, I had now two superbe, unique and wonderful little girls that meant the world to me. It was the perfection itself. Those two were my heart and my soul.

"Exactly, so stop harassing me."

"Well, since it's like that, you can see nothing until the big day." I stuck my tongue out at her and she narrowed her eyes at me.

"And you feel so cool doing that, don't you ? You're so childish, grow up."

"When I grow up--" I started singing that Pussycat Dolls' song, but got cut off real quick. She was always killing my turn up time, like how can you be so disrespectful ?

"Dorian, I love you so much, so so much, but you can't sing honey. You can't and you need to accept that. I'm sorry. You can do a lot of things, incredible thing --like in the bedroom-- but singing ? No, I'm sorry. Well, actually I ain't sorry."

"Beyoncé is still causing damages I see."

"Beyoncé didn't tell me to tell you that, it's only the truth."

"Well, you just hurt my feelings." I fake cried, "How can you, my wife ? My own wife ? Really ? How can you hurt me like that ? I was trusting you."

"Too much, you're just too much." She shook her head at me.

"But you love me though." I sat on her lap and smiled innocently, placing my head on her shoulder, "You're so comfortable."

"If you don't get off of me right now. You're too old for that."

"You don't want to be my mama no more ? "

She laughed, "You're tiring me, man." Seeing that smile and making her happy became one of my main goals. When I said that I was going to show my love with my actions, I wasn't joking. I was doing that every day.

"You sill love me though." I pecked her lips and got up, "Herica called and said that dinner is starting at eight."

"Do we need to bring something ? "

"No, everything is taken care of. We just need to show up and Jamala is excited to see us."

"You meant Kennedy and Kelia. Nobody cares about us when those three get together. Hey, you remember last time when they flooded the toilets in this restaurant ? "

I chuckled, "Why did we even let them go there by themselves in the first place ? "

"We didn't ! They somewhat got there without us noticing it." We laughed together, "Talking about children, are you ready for the big opening ? "

She was talking about the orphanage that I was opening here in a month. That's what I wanted to do. After thinking about it for months and months, I finally decided to start this projet. I'd never really had that future dream job that I wanted to achieve like everybody else, but one thing I'd always had was a big heart, even if life wasn't always fair with me.

I wanted this children to have the chance to have a good life and to be guided throughout their journey, I could be their parent. Well, until they find an adoptive family. And I will make sure that they'll find the perfect ones. I'll do everything in my power to prevent them to be adopted by those creepy parents from those horrible stories you hear sometimes. And also, I'll make sure that those families won't abandon them along the way after adopting them. Kids are not toys. If you come to my orphanage thinking that you'll only adopt a baby, that's not happening. The baby will grow up, a child doesn't stay a new born forever.

They won't fool me.

One thing that jail taught me is how to know a dangerous person, if it makes sense. It's all in the vibe and behavior. The simplest gesture can tell a lot about a person. And one misplaced word, an incorrect sentence can reveal more than you think. Plus, with Docia's help and since she was a therapist, it'll be easy for me to see through people's games, well those that'll try to play me.

I was ready to fight for those children.

And at eighteen, they won't be abandoned in the streets. I'll continue to help them when it'll be time to walk in the adulthood. I'd been working on it for eight years now and still today, as I'll go, I'll be making more plans and achieving more projects to give them the best life possible.

"I met some more kids, they're excited to finally live in the mansion, well castle as they love to call it." I answered beaming.

The mansion I was talking about was a gift that Nǎinai offered in my heritage. It was my twenty-eighth birthday's present. I got it on time, just when I was looking for a place. It was situated somewhere on the hills of California, in the middle of the nature, away from the noise, but not too far from the city though since they'll need to go to school and all that. We renovated what needed to be and voilà ! We had a home for the children. A very cozy one at that.

50 to 70 --maximum-- people can live in there. And I had about five maids that will be working in there. Security guards posted in the huge garden in case. A security system. I personally hired the workers, making sure that they won't try anything funny with the kids. They'll be checked often. You have to be careful in the presence of so many innocent lives. And of course, the orphans will be supervised carefully too, so there won't be any bullying, harassment or anything like that between them. They were going to be a big and happy family. I thought about all type of situations possible and based some of my plans on that. They'll also have personal therapists, doctors and counselors to go to.

Everything will be under control.

She hugged me, "I'm so so proud of you ! You're doing good things out there. I can't wait to see the results of your hard work."

"Yeah, me either." I kissed her nose.

"Oh ! I almost forgot. Marc is going to propose tonight."

"Yes, I know. I was there when Marc asks Yemi's hand in marriage. Ryver didn't even hesitate and agreed immediately. I can't believe he's twenty-one years old now and in college though."

"I know, kids grow up so fast."

"Yeah, that's why we need more." I said, causing her to laugh.

She grinned and wrapped her arms around my neck as she stared intensively in my eyes, "I love you, Mr. Willkingston."

"I love you, Mrs. Khimona Willkingston."
