~ 70 ~
As soon as Dayeong fell to the floor, Eric and Chanmi were at her side.
Chanmi wrapped her arms around her and Dayeong grasped one of her hands, holding on as if her life depended on it.
"It'll be alright," Chanmi whispered, rubbing her back. She was probably trying to sound reassuring, but her voice was wavering and it only served to make Dayeong cry harder. "We'll figure it out. He'll come back to you," she said sternly. "I know Juyeon... I've known him for a long time. He's not the type to give up. He's going to fight his way back to you, so you have to take care of yourself and your baby so you can both be healthy when he returns."
"I... I can't..." she sobbed, though she wasn't sure where she was going with that sentence. How could she even explain it? Now that he was gone, she felt like her one source of oxygen had been cut off. She felt the most hopeless she'd ever felt in her life.
In the background, she could hear people shouting. Eric's voice was among them, even as one of his hands was rubbing her back.
"We're not calling off the wedding," she heard him say, loud and clear. She blinked, looking up at him, feeling so shocked at that moment that her tears stopped.
"We're just postponing it," Eric continued, holding her arm and helping her off the floor. "Chanmi will take Juyeon's place as her personal guard. Now, if you excuse us, we'll be in our room," he snapped, turning around and leading her away from the chaos. Chanmi was on her other side, holding her other arm in comfort.
"What are you doing?" she whispered out, her voice sounding broken as she wiped her face with the back of her hand.
"I don't think it'll be safe to send you back home," Eric explained as he quickly led her out of that room, and Chanmi took the lead as they walked through the hallways. "The way your father is looking at you... no way. Plus, if you go back, it'll be harder for Juyeon to find you. He'll obviously try to come here. I want to help you guys find your way back to each other, so I want you close by. Is that alright?" he asked, stopping in front of their room door. She nodded, and he opened the door and led her inside. Chanmi locked it behind them.
"I know this is probably uncomfortable," Chanmi said slowly. "But I think you guys should actually start sharing this room."
"What?" Dayeong and Eric said at the same time, looking at her in surprise.
Chanmi gave them a small smile. "I'm serious. With Dayeong's condition, I don't think she should be alone. Eric... you can just sleep on the sofa or something. It won't be for that long."
"Nine months is an awfully long time," Dayeong muttered, looking guiltily at Eric. "I don't mind staying by myself..."
"No, Chanmi's right," Eric said, shaking his head at the beginning of her protest. "Your health is a priority right now."
Tears polled in her eyes again and she placed her hands on her stomach, which had yet to show any signs of pregnancy. But it was real, oh so real.
"I'm scared," she admitted, looking down as tears rolled down her cheeks yet again. "Call me dramatic, but I feel like dying," she cried, looking up at Chanmi and Eric desperately. "What am I going to do without him?"
Her friends both wrapped their arms around her, hugging her as her body shook with cries.
"I want him to be here," she whispered. "I want to be together to see whether the baby will be a boy or a girl. I want to celebrate with him. I've wanted to celebrate since the moment I found out... but I couldn't," she whimpered. "I want to rejoice, but I'm not able to. And I hate it," she said, pressing a fist to her mouth in a feeble attempt to stop her cries.
"We'll get through this," Chanmi whispered. "I promise. Together, we'll get through this."
