Chapter 41

Diana's POV

Right after telling Meg my news was when the doors to the room burst open. There stood Paris and he didn't look happy at all. He had a serious look on his face and I couldn't tell if he was angry at me or perhaps something that I had done.

"You are needed in the throne room." Paris spokes with a straight face.

"How did you know she would be awake?" Meg questioned stepping before me, as though becoming my own human shield.

"I didn't, if Diana wasn't awake then I would have taken you Meg. Still we need to go, now." Paris instructed as he turned and waited for me to join him.

Picking up the hem of my dress I walk to Paris side and look at him. Usually I could read Paris like a book but this time he was just acting stern. Nothing I said would make his facial expression change and deep down I knew that wasn't a good sign. Following him to the throne room we stop right outside the door where Paris takes something from a servant nearby. Turning my way, I watch as he carefully place that golden crown of leaves upon my head.

"You must never remove this, no matter how much you may hate it. Just like Hector and I you are now a symbol to the people here. No, you don't have title yet but the child you carry inside you does." Paris spoke quietly as though he knew I hadn't told anyone else.

"How did you know?" I question him in shock.

"I heard you tell Meg right before I walked in. You have to tell Hector though, if he finds out I knew before him he may have both of our heads.' Paris said with a small smile. "What is beyond these doors Diana will test you, probably in a way you never thought you would be tested. Be ready."

Nodding as if to accept Paris's challenge I turn with him as the doors open and we walk inside. Once we did I could hear one of the older advisors questioning someone. It wasn't until I got to the center of the room that I saw Achilles chained down to the floor his shirt missing, not that that was unusual, but the whip marking upon his body made me look to the man questioning him on the floor. It wasn't Hector and when I looked around to find Hector he was nowhere to be seen.

"They sent Hector away to another village before they did this, apparently they caught him last night and are now about to sentence him." Paris whispered to me. "Do what you must."

"You were banished and yet you have the gull to return!" the advisor yells as he goes to strike him again but instead of striking Achilles he strikes my hand and I hold the whip in place. "You! What in the name of the gods are you doing here?!"

Clearly, he was not expecting to see me, that's when I began to wonder. Maybe the advisor was in on something to get me out of the picture. Using my strength, I pull as hard as I can, and the whip comes straight to my hand. Clearing his throat, I can tell he about to make another long speech, so I stop him in his tracks.

"You are not the king! What right do you think you have to pass sentence on someone let alone beat them when you hold no title at all!" I yell at the advisor who looks to Paris for help however Paris just shakes his head and looks at me.

"She speaks the truth, if Hector knew what you were doing he would have your head." Paris comments with a sigh.

"You fool! Has she bewitched you too?! I am doing what needs to be done, Achilles could not even stand this woman and banished her from his side only to have her end up with Hector. She is nothing more than a whore!" the advisor yells to the crowded room who only look away from him.

"She's not a whore...she carries a future heir...Hector will kill you for endangering her..." Achilles speaks up at he lifts his head up to meet the advisors gaze. "I never banished her...she is the mother of my son...I gave her freedom to do what her heart wanted...even if her heart didn't want to be with me."

Hearing that I hold my ground, but I could hear the sincerity in Achilles voice. The advisor burst out into laughter as he walked about the room.

"How do we know that bastard is our kings? Obviously, she slept with Achilles, how do we know its not yours Paris?" the advisor asked as he went and stood face to face with Paris.

I knew Paris wasn't always the bravest of men but now would be the time to show some strength. Taking a step closer to the man, it wasn't hard to see Paris's anger grow and his face becoming redder by the moment.

"If she carried my child I would never leave her side, if I were king and laid with her I would have married her the next day the very action you prevent Hector from doing! I would have had the guts to have you killed!" Paris yelled only to be slapped by the advisor.

Grabbing the back of his robe I pulled him away from Paris and stood before Paris. Obviously, Paris was shocked but this man, this advisor had pushed too far and even if I had to end it I would. Standing tall before him I walk up to the old man showing no fear in my body.

"You call me a whore...a woman who not only has a past but has killed to protect the ones she loves and yet you strike a beloved friend right before her eyes. You are a poor excuse of an advisor and when Hector returns I will humbly request the removal of your presence from this palace." The words barely leave my mouth as he moves to hit me and he in fact does.

Making me stumble back a little bit I look up and carefully put my hand to the mark I knew would appear upon my face. Feeling something on my lip I barely touch the spot to reveal blood. Paris turned me to look at him and once he saw blood, Paris had had enough.

"Guards! Lock him up in the dungeons!" Paris yelled his order loud and strong.

"For what? Striking a common harlot?!" the advisor demanded.

"Striking the woman, I love, the woman who carries my child and the woman who tomorrow will become my queen!" Hector voice rings loud through out the room.

Everyone turns Hectors way as he makes his way through the crowd. Everyone had their heads down in respect to him. All besides myself and Paris and the now scared to death advisor. Walking up to me Hector gently took hold of my chin and turned my head, so he could see the marks clearly. Just like with Paris you could see anger, but Hector could control his anger better than his brother. Shaking his head, he turned to look at the advisor.

"My king! Make her the queen?! She came to defend Achilles!" the advisor cried out.

"Achilles saved her life! He gave her the antidote to a poison that was killing her and the baby!" Meg yells as she runs to my side.

"Still she defended him!"

"As she rightly should have in this situation. Achilles risked his life so save Diana, obviously he did not think you nor any of us would catch him. Now we owe him a debt, one that I shall repay right now." Hector announces as he walks to Achilles with a guard and un shackles him. "You may leave Achilles, none of my men will chase you."

Achilles nodded at Hector and left the room. Turning back to the advisor I could only imagine what Hector was thinking. The advisor begged and pleaded but it fell upon Hector's deaf ears. He ordered the man to the dungeon and his sentence to be determined later. The man was dragged from the room, screaming, and yelling the entire way.

"Diana! I am so glad to see you up and walking again." Hector said as he took me in his arms and held me tight. "I wish I had known first but to hear that you are with child has made me even more excited to be a father again."

"It was something I wasn't sure about, but I know it to be true now. Forgive me for not telling you first." I told him honestly.

Hector just smiled and kissed me. Paris cleared his throat as he led Meg out of the room. Hector told me that he felt bad about leaving me alone to go to another village but knew that I was well cared for with Meg and Paris.

"Achilles saved you...though I could not. What will become of the advisor I wonder." Hector sighed as he began to think.

"I think we need to question him. I am almost sure he had something to do with me being poisoned." I comment to Hector who nods in agreement with me.

"I agree, now we have plans to make for tomorrow." Hector spoke confidently as we walked down the hall.

"Tomorrow?"

"Our wedding, I meant it Diana I am marrying you and making you my queen." Hector said taking my hands in his and pulling them to his lips lightly kissing them. "If you will still have me?"

Grinning I lean in and kiss him right on the lips.

"Forever, I will be forever yours."
