Chapter 8: Hanging Out With The Grumps
I can't believe I'm going out to dinner with famous people! Let alone famous people that I look up to. I walk outside and idle by the cars that are parked in the office's driveway. I look around at the other people idling, and those people consist of Arin, Dan, Allie, Tucker, Suzy, and Ross. Such lovely people. And to think they're interested in socializing with me.
"So, how about we all take Arin's car? We could all fit," Dan says. "There's seven seats and there's seven of us."
"All right," I say, and all of us awkwardly clamber into Dan's car one by one. Dan is in the passenger seat, I'm in the back seat with Suzy, and Allie, Tucker, and Ross are in the way back, as I like to call that extra row.
We all buckle our seatbelts, Arin. putting his key in the ignition afterward. He turns it as Dan says for all of us to hear, "So what restaurant do you all wanna go to?"
"Wendy's!" Arin yells, making a few people laugh and the others scoff. I'm one of the people that laugh, and Dan's one of the people that scoff.
"No, like, an actual restaurant," Dan chuckles.
"Wendy's is an actual restaurant!" Arin huffs, crossing his arms and pouting.
"I think what Dan means is that we should all go to a restaurant that's not a fast-food place," I tell Arin. "Like a sit-down place with no Drive Thru."
Arin huffs once more. "Fine. Then what about Chili's?"
Everyone in the car is silent, thinking about if Chili's is what they want or not.
Suzy breaks the thoughtful silence. "I could go for some Chili's. The ranch there is killer."
(I HECCING LOVE CHILI'S DON'T JUDGE ME OK)
"I could do Chili's too," Ross says.
"Same!" Allie says with enthusiasm.
"Ditto," Tucker says with not as much enthusiasm.
"I love Chili's! Let's do that!" I say. I look at Dan expectantly, waiting for his opinion on getting Chili's today.
Dan smirks at me. "I dunno~" he teases, looking back at me. He can sense how much I want Chili's.
"Please?" I whine, giving him my famous puppy eyes.
His expression softens slightly, but he doesn't budge. "What's in it for me?"
"Have you ever tasted their ranch?!" Suzy says from next to me. "Their ranch is what's in it for you!"
"And also the fact that I will force you to eat pizza and other things that your stomach wouldn't agree with if you don't do this for me," I say with a smug smile.
"And how would you do that?" Dan smirks.
"I know where you live," I say. "I could sneak over to your place when you're sleeping and tie you up. Then I could force-feed you pizza, peppers, and other things."
My threat makes Dan a little uneasy. He fidgets in his seat a little then sighs. "Fine. We'll go to Chili's." He looks at me. "But only because you're too cute to say 'no' to."
Everyone hears that from where they're sitting. A chorus of "awww"s and "ooooh"s fill the car, making me blush and turn away.
Dan laughs at how I blush at everything as Arin puts the car in reverse and backs out of the office's driveway.
The car ride to Chili's is filled with laughter, jokes, and music from Arin's radio. And before I know it, Arin's parking the car in the Chili's parking lot.
"Who's ready to enter a food coma?" Dan asks enthusiastically as Arin takes his key out of his car's ignition.
"Me!" all of us yell. Arin is the loudest, since everyone knows he can't resist food.
We all yeet out of the car. After we're all out, Arin locks it and leads us inside.
A hostess approached us almost immediately. "Hello—" she cuts herself off, her eyes flicking between all of us. "A-are you guys—"
Dan smiles and cuts the hostess off. "Oooh, are you a lovely?"
"Aww, I love meeting the lovelies!" Suzy says, bouncing up and down with that sweet smile of hers.
The hostess nods. "Indeed I am! I-I don't even know where to start...you guys have been such a big inspiration to me! I love you guys!"
Arin smiles. "We love you too. All of this YouTube stuff wouldn't be possible without ya."
Ross nods. "The lovelies are the coolest people around!"
"Um...can I have a picture?" the hostess asks awkwardly, pulling out her phone.
"Of course!" Arin says.
The hostess's eyes dart across the restaurant, trying to find someone that would be willing to take the picture. Her eyes finally land on me, the shy figure awkwardly hanging around the Grumps. "Hey! Uh...would you mind taking a picture of me and these guys?" She points to the Grumps.
"Not at all!" I say with a smile.
The hostess hands me her phone while thanking me. She then rushes to the Grumps as I pull up the phone's camera app.
They all get into a pose. The hostess is sandwiched in between Arin and Dan, who have their arms around her. Allie, Tucker, Ross, and Suzy are on the floor in front of the hostess, pointing at her. And everyone's smiling from ear to ear.
I snap the picture and check to see if it came out okay. I nod, pleased with how the picture came out. "Got it!" I say cheerfully.
Everyone gets out of their poses as the hostess grabs her phone from me. "Thank you so much!"
"Anytime!" I say, smiling.
The hostess pockets her phone and turns to the Grumps. "Thanks for the picture, guys." She fidgets with her hands awkwardly before saying, "Um...if you guys don't mind...can I get a hug?" She opens her arms.
The Grumps all smile. "Yes you can!" Arin says and embraces the hostess.
She hugs back and then moves on to Dan. He smiles and embraces her tightly, being the sweet man he is. I notice that the hostess hugs Dan for a bit longer than Arin, but I can't blame her. I would too (sorry, Arin).
She then hugs everyone else and seats us at one of those huge tables, giving the Grumps one last thank you before hurrying off. Arin's on my left side, Dan's on my right, Suzy's sitting next to Arin, and Ross, Tucker, and Allie are sitting across from us.
"Ah. The lovelies are the best, aren't they?" Arin says, smiling widely.
"That they are," Dan says. He looks at me. "Especially this lovely." He nudges me, and I smile shyly.
"Oh, yeah. (Y/N)'s the best lovely that I've ever met," Ross says bluntly.
"Ross!" Suzy scolds. "Stop picking favorites! We love all of the lovelies equally!"
Ross shrugs. "If you say so."
Our waitress then comes over to us, smiling. "Hello! My name is Kristen, and I'll be taking care of you this evening." She then passes us some menus.
Dan and I quietly snicker, knowing that Kristen was the name of the girl in his song "6969".
"Could I get you guys started with something to drink?" She says, pulling out her pad thing.
Everyone looks at me, expecting me to order first. But I don't feel like ordering, because I see a familiar figure leaning against a nearby wall, just watching me.
Oh my God! I can't believe it's him. After all these years..!
