Chapter 16: Theo's Back, Ya'll

It's been a few days since Dan and I became an item, and lemme tell you: those days were the best days of my life. We've been hanging out a lot ever since we became boyfriend and girlfriend, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Dan knows how to make me smile when I'm thinking about my parents, or when I'm just sad in general, and his humor is the kind that you can't not laugh at.

Right now is one of the times where we're hanging out, giggling like idiots. Dirty jokes always have got me, even if they make me question my entire existence. Dan smirks and pokes my leg, opening his mouth to say something.

I already know where this is going, so I cut him off with a laugh. "Stop, Danny!"

"Wait, wait, one more!" Dan says, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Please? I swear this'll be it."

I think for a minute, wondering if giving Dan the chance to tell this joke will be worth losing what's left of my innocence.

I decide that it is. Dan looks really excited to tell me this. "Fine. What is it?"

"Yes!" Dan cheers. "Okay, so what's the difference between a garbanzo bean and a chickpea?"

I look at Dan with a "bruh" look. "You realize that I watch Game Grumps, right? I already know the answer to this." Despite having heard the joke before, the thought of the answer still makes me giggle.

"Aw, yeah, I forgot about you watched Game Grumps," Dan mumbles sadly. "Damn, now I have to come up with another one on the fly."

"Well, maybe if you were skilled enough, you could do it," I scoff, poking Dan's side.

"I am skilled enough!" Dan whines. "I'll do it right now!" There's a small pause. Then he stutters, "U-um..."

I laugh, and Dan joins in. "Wow, what a wonderful joke," I say sarcastically, still laughing.

Dan pouts. "Maybe I should Google some..."

And then, my phone dings. A text message. I fish it out of my sweater's pocket and open the text. A confused expression appears on my face as I read it.

Dan notices this and rests his head on my shoulder, looking at my phone screen.

I let him, my expression unchanging.

The text is from Theo, and it reads,

Theo: Hey (Y/N)! Do you mind if I come over? I've got something to tell you.

"Hm," Dan hums in thought. "Wonder what he could have to tell you."

"Me too..." I then look at Dan, running a hand through his long, luxurious curls. He responds by humming in delight and closing his eyes. "Danny, would you mind if he came over?"

I either have Dan under my spell, or he just genuinely doesn't care. Probably both, to be honest. "Not at all," he says quietly.

I smile and remove my hand from Dan's hair, making him whine in disappointment. "Oh, hush. Okay, if you stop being a needy little boy, I'll pay you back with hair plays later, all right?"

That offer makes Dan smile. "All right! But I'll hold you to that," he says, nestling his head into the crook of my neck.

I roll my eyes, smiling to myself as I type a response to Theo's message.

Me: Yeah, that's fine! I don't think you'll mind, but on the off chance that you do, Dan's here. I can have him hang out somewhere if what you need to say needs to stay between the two of us.

Theo: Awww, lover boy, huh? ;)))) I'm cool with him listening. In fact, he probably should know about this too.

My curiosity levels increase. What could Theo have to tell me and Dan?

"'Lover boy'?" Dan says, reading the text that Theo sent me with a laugh.

I roll my eyes. "Yeah. Ever since I told him about us, he has not stopped calling you that."

Dan laughs a little. "Theo's a cool dude. I'm excited for him to come over."

"Same. Although, I'm kinda worried," I say. "What if something bad happened?"

Dan rolls his eyes, smiling. "Babe, you worry too much. He wouldn't have been so chill about what he wanted to tell us if it was super serious."

"You don't know that," I huff, crossing my arms childishly.

Dan pauses a little before responding, "You're right. I don't. But there's no point in worrying until there's something to worry about, all right?" He then places me in his lap with a smirk and says, "And until Theo comes over...we can snuggle."

I roll my eyes and tilt my head back so that it's resting on Dan's chest. "Fine."

After a bit, someone knocks on my house's door.

I get off of Dan and rush to open the door, making him whine. "So needy~" I tease, glancing back at Dan.

He lets out a noise of offense. "Rude!" he says as he stands up, prepared to greet Theo.

I giggle and pull open the door.

Theo is standing there, which is what Dan and I were expecting. I smile at my friendo, wrapping my arms around the boyo in a hug. "'Sup, bro?"

Theo hugs back as he says, "A lot of things, actually. Which is why I came here." He then releases me and walks up to Dan, offering his hand for a bro-shake. "Nice to see you, man."

Dan takes his hand and engages in that manly handshake/hug thing. "You too, man. I missed you." He pulls apart and smiles at Theo. "So, what did you need to tell us?"

Theo's expression falls a little, reminded of why he came here. "Well...I don't really know how to segue into it, so I'm just gonna say it." He takes a deep breath, then says, "This is probably the last you guys are gonna see of me. I've gotta get out of dodge for reasons that I can't say."

My heart drops, and by Dan's expression, his does too. "But...you just came back!" I say sadly.

Theo smiles softly and grabs my hands. "I know. I'm not any happier about this than you guys are."

"How come you can't tell us why?" Dan asks, pure sadness lacing his attractive voice.

Theo lets go of my hands and shoves them in his pockets, rocking back and forth on his feet. It's his nervous tick. When you've been friends with someone for that long, you kind of learn to pick up on those things. "Personal stuff, I guess you can say."

Dan doesn't prod any further, since Theo's motives for leaving are personal. He instead nods and looks down at the ground before wrapping his arms around Theo. It's not a manly hug. It's more like the hugs that Arin and Dan share. Filled with the utmost friendship. "Even though this is our second time of meeting, I'm gonna miss you, Theo."

Theo hugs back, tears in his eyes. "And I, you, Dan."

Theo pulls apart first, tears falling down his face. He then turns to me and hugs me. I can feel him shake slightly due to him crying. "Take care of yourself, okay, (Y/N)?" he asks softly.

"I will, Theo..," I say, tears of my own welling up in my eyes. "You too, all right?"

"I'll try my best," Theo responds, pulling apart with a soft smile. He then glances between Dan and I and says, "Goodbye, guys."

"Goodbye, Theo," I say, trying my best to contain the tears spilling down my face. I don't wanna lose him again..!

Dan smiles. "I don't like goodbyes. I'd much prefer a 'see you later'."

That makes Theo smile. "Well, in that case...see you guys later." He then leaves the house.

That's when I stop trying to contain the tears that I was failing to contain. Sobs shake my body at the reality of losing my friend again.

That's when Dan sidles up behind me and wraps his arms around me, resting his chin on top of my head. "It's gonna be okay, (Y/N)..," he says quietly. "It'll be okay..."

"All right..," I say, falling back a little so that Dan can support me. He does just that, his scrawny build preventing me from falling backwards.

"Hey, do you wanna go someplace? Take your mind off all this?" Dan asks.

"Yeah."

Dan releases me. "All right, then. Where does my lovely girlfriend wanna go?"

I smile at that. "Maybe just walk around town for a bit? Get some fresh air?"

Dan smiles as well. "Sounds good to me."

And with that, we yeet out of the house and begin walking to who-knows-where.
