While they were waiting for the elevator door to open for them, Chaeyoung let out a soft gasp before she turned to face him.
"I almost forgot," she muttered. "The books Hoseok asked me to order for him had arrived. And he told me to tell you to get them for him."
"Books?" Jungkook almost laughed, furrowing his brows with his arms crossed. "I thought he stopped reading long time ago."
She chuckled. "Don't be mean."
"No, really. He lost interest for quite a long time," Jungkook said, waited for her to get inside the elevator before he stepped in.
And he was reminded of that day when Hoseok and Yoongi had breakfast together with both him and Chaeyoung in her house, and Chaeyoung did say that she liked to read when she had a free time. He didn't quite notice it but now he realized that Hoseok's interest towards books slowly came back when she talked about some things she learned from some book, and that piqued his friend's interest.
"I'm going to send them to your –"
"No, I'll go to your place and take them with me. You said books, right? How many of them?"
"Around ten. I can't remember."
"Ten? Wow," Jungkook chuckled.
The door was about to close when someone else yelled from outside, asking them to hold the door. "Wait! Wait!" And Jungkook pressed the button to have the door stayed open while three men went inside.
Chaeyoung immediately went to stand behind him when the two men led one of them, the drunken guy in. The sober men bowed to both of them and soon after the door slid close, Jungkook noticed from the corner of his eye that the one who was drunk turned to look at them. He didn't really care about it, kept his eyes fixated on the numbers changing above the buttons in front of him before he felt a soft hold around his forearm. Before he glanced over his shoulder, he could feel Chaeyoung drawing closer to him from behind, her hold on his arm getting tighter.
Jungkook looked over his shoulder at her, and she hid away her face to look at either his back or the wall next to her. When Jungkook shifted his eyes to look at the males, the drunken man was eyeing her with something that Jungkook, as a male himself, understood very much. His jaw clenched when the man roamed his eyes from her head to toe, smirk never leaving his face.
He reached his hand behind, holding her hand as his eyes fixed on the man alone, and his two friends were totally unaware of what was happening.
"Nice legs," the man said, his tongue darted out to swipe across his lips with a bigger smirk appearing next with his eyes basically glued to Chaeyoung's legs. His two friends looked startled, eyes widened as they looked from their friend to Jungkook.
"Excuse me?" Jungkook tilted his head, voice dropped in octave. He had turned his body to face the three males while his hand pulled Chaeyoung's to behind him, signaling her to move. She stood close to him still, with the wall behind her. Jungkook made sure his hand didn't leave hers, and it proved that she didn't want him to let her hand go either when she was holding his tightly, another hand held his wrist of the same hand.
The drunken man shot him a look and furrowed his brows. "Excuse me? I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to this pretty lady," he lifted a hand and tried to reach for Chaeyoung but Jungkook slapped the hand away, almost sending the man to the floor as he swayed and staggered but luckily was caught by one of his friends.
"Sorry, he's not usually like this," one of them said.
The man struggled to straighten himself on the floor, his friends nagged a little in hushed voices but he obviously ignored them, taking one step towards Jungkook to look at Chaeyoung but stumbled slightly before his friends pulled him back. "Do you want to know what the word of the day is?" he asked Chaeyoung, but she did not respond.
Jungkook could hear an aggravated sigh escaped her before she asked Jungkook in a whisper, "Should we get off here?"
"The word of the day is legs," the man continued, his smirk just got wider and uglier. "Let's go back to your place and spread the word."
And Jungkook couldn't hold it in as one of his palm landed on the man's chest before he pushed him harshly, causing the latter to fall into his friends and sending them three glued to the wall.
"What's your problem?" the male asked him, shushed by his friends again.
"We're really sorry, he had a bad day and drank a lot," the friend told Jungkook and bowed at him and Chaeyoung. "Dude, shut the fuck up, you're getting us into troubles!" he slapped the drunken man on the head.
"Hey!" The man yelled, pointing at Jungkook's hand that was linked with Chaeyoung's with narrowed eyes. "Why are you holding her hand?!" he asked at the same time the elevator stopped and opened the door for Jungkook and Chaeyoung to step out.
Jungkook sent all of them a deep glare before his eyes landed on that problematic drunk man alone. "Well, because she's with me. Too blind to see that?" And he made way for Chaeyoung to leave first before he followed suit, his palm lightly pressed against the small of her back as they walked side by side.
"You okay?" he asked her once they stood in front of her door, her finger calmly pressing the buttons that would allow them to enter.
Chaeyoung nodded. "Yeah. Thanks. It was really uncomfortable," She offered him a small appreciative smile before she pushed the door open and they both entered. "I'm going to get the box."
"Box?" Jungkook asked with curious brows quirked.
Chuckling, Chaeyoung turned to look at him as she shook her head. "The box with Hoseok's books?"
"Oh, yeah. Okay, I'll be right there, then." He pointed at the kitchen.
Her eyes locked onto his for one good second that caused his heart to make that sudden flip for some unknown reason. Nevertheless, that unknown reason was a good one, he was sure. She turned on her heel to leave and Jungkook felt his throat tightening as he watched the back view of her with that long, healthy hair swayed gracefully and his fingers itched to run through them. His eyes slowly darted down to her fair, smooth-skinned long legs. He really wanted to slap the man for looking at her legs, although he understood completely why. He looked away then, taking that time to finally swallow the invisible lump blocking his airway as he refused to let his mind wander further, which was a hard thing to achieve.
Chaeyoung came back a few minutes later, struggling a little with the box which width was wider than her frame and definitely looked heavy but she managed to lift it higher and placed it onto the kitchen island before Jungkook's feet could make a run to her. He opened the box and let out a laugh, giving each book inside the box a few seconds of his inspection as he lifted every one of them one by one.
"These are really the kind of book that he reads. I'm sure he's gonna enjoy them."
She let a smile pull at her lips. She was looking into the books as well before she looked up and asked, "Do you want something to drink?"
"Sure," he nodded, carefully placing the books back into the box after chancing a glance at her.
"Is wine okay?" she asked, and for some reason, Jungkook noticed that she looked unsure and anxious, a little bit bothered by something and her smile after that looked a bit unnatural. Not that he would take it in a bad way, but there was something about it that caused his insides to twirl in a somewhat mysteriously pleasant way.
"Wine?" he asked back, eyes on hers.
Chaeyoung gave him a short nod. "It's... I got it from Taehyung."
As soon as he heard that name, his eyes finally broke the contact with hers and he put his focus on the books in front of him. He nodded in response, and the words he uttered as reply were so late to fly off his mouth. "Sure."
They spent a few short minutes sipping on their own wine in silence, with Jungkook's eyes boring holes into the wine glass in his hand. If the hole was real, his wine would have escaped and wet the floor or his feet and even if that happened, he probably wouldn't have realized.
"If you didn't intend to leave the party so early, I would have sung one song for you," Jungkook said, which he realized a little too late that he said it out loud instead of thinking it in his head but it wasn't something that he would regret saying, he just wished he would be able to phrase it better because it probably sounded like a total disappointment.
Her response was simple. "Hm?"
Jungkook finally looked up from his glass and met with her soft gaze. "When I listened to that song, I would think of you."
Her eyes downcast, but it was only a moment before she looked back at him. "What song?"
He didn't know how long it took for him to finally responded, he was sure that she stared into his soul for probably a thousand seconds. At that moment, he wanted to answer her question with a title but it was like nothing was working, as though his brain and mouth did not work together anymore. Like they were on their own. Because when he opened his mouth to let a sound out, it was a sound of his voice bouncing in the air singing the song.
All I know is
We could go anywhere, we could do
Anything, girl, whatever the mood, we're in
Yeah, all I know is
Getting lost late at night under stars
Finding love standing right where we are
Your lips, they pull me in the moment
You and I alone and
People may be watching, I don't mind
The whole time he was singing, his eyes were jumping from her eyes to her separated lips, back and forth.
'Cause anywhere with you feels right
anywhere with you feels right like Paris in the rain, Paris in the rain
He kept on singing, noticing how her eyes never left him and the only movement she did was blink and swallowing, probably to prevent her throat from dryness. She had stopped sipping on her drink, and he didn't need to take a good look at how her hand was holding the glass. Jungkook was half-worried that she would drop it, and she almost did, but her fingers fortunately still functioned well to keep both the glass and the liquid it was holding from having to meet the floor.
Although separated by the kitchen island, he gave her an intense and deep gaze then as he entered the next verse.
I look at you now and I want this forever
I might not deserve it but there's nothing better
Don't know how I ever did it all without you
My heart is about to, about to jump out of my chest
Feelings, they come and they go, that they do
Feelings, they come and they go, not with you
The late nights and the street lights and the people
Look at me girl and the whole world could stop
He noticed how Chaeyoung's chest rose for long seconds, taking the deepest breath before she released it very calmly while her eyes still had not shifted to look away from him. It repeated the same way as he sang the chorus again, and every single time the line 'When I'm with you' came, he made sure that his true emotion was clear.
Girl when I'm not with you
All I do is miss you
So come and set the mood right underneath the moonlight
Days in Paris, nights in Paris
Paint you with my eyes closed
Wonder where the time goes
Jungkook paused, and really, the whole world seemed to stop because he knew how still he was, and how static she was as well while they had each other locked with intense gazes. He wanted to raise the glass to his lips to have one sip, but decided against it as he sang the final four lines to end it.
'Cause anywhere with you feels right
anywhere with you feels like Paris in the rain, Paris in the rain
Walking down an empty street
Puddles underneath our feet
He blew air from his nose, nodded his head lightly a few times and licked his lips that went dry all so sudden. All the while not staring at anywhere else but her.
It was then that Chaeyoung finally broke the long gaze, slowly turning around to have him face her back. He watched her hand moved, lifting the glass to drink on the wine. He stayed rooted at where he was; watching more of her as she put down the glass and pushed it to her left and his eyes glanced briefly to see the glass was already empty. Both her hands rested against the top of the counter, her face was facing the wall in front of her, unmoving.
Jungkook inhaled the air around him, filling in his lungs and gulped his own drink. While doing so, his feet began to move, walking around the kitchen island, and his eyes were on her back. The moment he stood right behind her, his glass had nothing left. Jungkook moved closer, until his chest was only a breath away from her back. One free hand of his that went in between her waist and her hand on the counter pushed the edge of the counter while the other hand that was occupied with the glass brushed past her waist to put the glass on the countertop. As soon as he placed the empty glass on the marbled counter, Jungkook let his hand find the edge of the counter, making similar pose like his other hand.
His nose was so close to her head, her hair brushing softly against the tip of his nose and he closed his eyes for a brief second while he took in the sweet fruity scent of shampoo emanated from her beautiful silky hair. Slowly, he moved his head from the back of her head to the left, her hair now brushing his cheek in the most delicate way. Jungkook took off his right hand from the counter, pushing the hair that rested around her left shoulder to rest on the right side. Once his eyes caught the skin of her exposed shoulder, Jungkook dipped his head, lowering more and more to let his lips land on the soft skin of her shoulder.
He made no effort to hide the sound of him inhaling her scent as he pressed his nose more into her shoulder, lips kissing the skin tenderly, pressing his chest against her back. All the time, he realized that her breathing was heavy but Chaeyoung did nothing to stop him. Jungkook shut his eyes tightly, tilting his head so he would be facing her neck and gently, he let his lips brushed against her shoulder as they moved towards her neck.
Both his hands clenched the edge of the counter, holding back from grabbing her waist as he indulged himself in dropping kisses along her shoulder to her neck, taking in her addictive scent into his system because he wouldn't want anything else to invade him other than her.
His mouth made way to her ear, taking her earlobe in between his lips but didn't let it happen for long. He went back to her neck, but this time, instead of merely planting soft, brief kisses onto her skin, Jungkook separated his lips, his teeth grazing and nibbling her skin lightly with no intention of hurting at all.
Wet kisses scattered around every area he had kissed her earlier. He went back to her shoulder, sucking on the skin very lightly and the fight to control himself was useless when she began to tip her head back, falling and resting on his shoulder, her breath came out in one sharp sound and her hand went up to his head. Her fingers dug his skull, curled and tugged on his hair.
His forehead creased and the hands that he prevented from taking Chaeyoung into his hold were finally released from the invisible chain he made as he grabbed her waist in an instant the moment she let a faint sound of moan while she was stroking his head. Jungkook pulled his head back from her shoulder as he held her waist firmly, turning her around in one quick motion and her hands immediately landed on his chest.
She was still breathing heavily and so was he. Their gazes on each other were so intense before Jungkook's hands pulled her head towards him with his lips eagerly finding hers. He pressed a hard kiss on her inviting lips. Chaeyoung's hands on his chest that clumsily held onto his jacket made him press his own body against hers, couldn't hold himself from crushing her into the counter behind her that she was pressed into.
He pulled away with a grunt and heavy breathing, eyes locked on hers again. He was sure there was something he wanted to say, something was already on the tip of his tongue, but it all vanished when he went for a kiss. His mouth opened, probably the unknown words were about to jump out, but before he could do so, Chaeyoung's hands went to his neck and Jungkook let himself be pulled for another intense kiss.
His palm spread widely on the small of her back, pressing her body to his while his other hand pushing them off the counter. He got so drowned in that kiss that he didn't realize he was running out of oxygen, that he was in dire need of air, that even when Chaeyoung detached their lips to take a breather, he skipped his chance to breathe in some as he dove back into the scene.
He broke the kiss in an instant, however. Finally realizing his need as he took in all he could. His forehead pressed against hers, hot breaths hitting each other's face. Her hands had disappeared from his neck, sliding to his shoulders and Jungkook let his tongue out to lick her lips briefly before he pressed their lips together again for a few seconds when she was trying to push his jacket off his shoulders. He let go of Chaeyoung's body momentarily to clumsily help her ease the process as he took the lead while she changed her hands' focus to his necktie.
Chaeyoung's hands were clumsy as she tried to loosen the slim black necktie. As soon as his arms were rid of his jacket, Chaeyoung pulled the slightly loosened tie and Jungkook eagerly caught her lips again, tongues stroking each other in something that could only be called as longing and pleading. At every push of their tongues, he could feel himself heating in all the right places. He'd kissed her during the separation period, but nothing beat the way they were kissing on that moment, that night.
This was something else and they both knew it.
She was almost done unbuttoning his white crisp shirt while they, again, taking each other's breath with the kiss that didn't seem like it would end when she suddenly pushed him and turned her head to the side, panting heavily. Jungkook grunted, aiming for her lips once more but her hand slipped under the opened shirt, pushing against his bare chest as she stuttered through her breath, "Phon –phone call."
He ignored her, bent his head to assault her neck, rubbing his nose and lips around it and kissed her along her jaw.
"Jungkook," she panted, slightly pulling on his shirt but pushing him at the same time.
"Mm..."
"Jungkook," she repeated, and this time she whined a little.
Jungkook grazed his teeth along her right shoulder, his heart pumped erratically at the tiny sounds that she made as he did so before his frown began to take over when she lifted his head off her.
"You got a phone call," Chaeyoung said quickly, her breathing was ragged.
He furrowed his brows for a few seconds before he finally began to realize that the ringtone of his phone was reverberating around the heated atmosphere. He shook his head and tried to deafen his ear by kissing her but she tipped her head back, shaking her own head at him and cocked her head to where his phone was. He looked at Chaeyoung again and she swallowed after taking a breather. "It could be important," she said to him.
Jungkook sighed heavily as he glanced over his shoulder, catching a glimpse of the vibrating and screaming device on the kitchen island two steps behind him. He lowered his head before he reluctantly spun around and reached for the phone.
His eyebrows knitted when he saw who the caller was. He let one sharp breath out as he slid his thumb to answer the call.
"Yes, Hoseok. What do you want?"
"I just want to let you know that I asked Chaeyoung to give you the books I asked her to order for me. She told me early today the books have arrived."
Jungkook's eyelids closed in annoyance as his eyeballs rolled dramatically behind the lids, his teeth gritting before his fingers curled into a fist. Did Hoseok call just to tell him that?
"I know," he said finally, holding himself from throwing the phone away.
"Can you send them over to my place? I have been waiting for so long, man!"
"I'll have them at your doorstep tomorrow morning."
"Tomorrow morning? I mean, now, dude. Now."
"Now?!" Jungkook hissed and slightly looked over his shoulder where Chaeyoung was still standing. He gritted his teeth as he replied to his friend. "I can't! I'm... busy."
"Busy? Busy my fucking ass. Get your ass here with the books."
"I said you'll get them tomorrow morning. Don't you understand," he deadpanned, ruffling on his own hair wildly and head hanging low.
He lifted his head when he heard some footsteps and it was Chaeyoung, walking past him in slow steps and Jungkook watched her as she run her fingers through her slightly messy hair caused by him, walking away from the kitchen and there was only one place running around in Jungkook's mind as his eyes followed her.
"I'm finally getting my mood to read and now you're making me wait." Hoseok nagged. "I'll head there, then. Are the books with you or they're still with her?"
Jungkook had already went out the kitchen as well, standing in the hallway as his eyes fixated on her walking figure, walking farther from him, walking towards her bedroom. She opened the door slowly, and didn't look back as she went inside and instead of a soft click of the door closing, there was no sound, because she let the door opened a tiny bit and Jungkook almost crushed his phone in his hand.
"No!" he snapped, paused and cleared his throat before giving a gentler reply. "No, you can't come now. Not now, not tonight."
"Why the fuck not. I need it now, damn it."
"Tomorrow morning, early in the morning, maybe even before you wake up. I'll be there with your goddamned books."
"If you're so fucking busy you're not at home, then I'll just get them from her."
He swallowed, catching her shadow moving across the room. "We're both busy." And he disconnected the call. The phone was left on a small table next to a door to the guest room.
Jungkook swung the bedroom door opened, his patience literally did not exist anymore and his eyes were frantic to search for her even though she was just standing across him. She turned around abruptly, probably startled at his sudden appearance.
"Sorry about that," Jungkook said lowly, his feet bringing him to her in slow, hesitant steps. "It was Hoseok, he asked –" He was silenced when she strode in one long step when he was nearer and pulled his shirt and attacked him with a kiss and Jungkook couldn't be bothered of not being able to explain himself anymore.
His shirt finally flew off his body and the next thing he knew was that she was underneath him as he hovered above her, his mouth on her neck before they claimed her lips, body pressing hers against the mattress and his hand was on its way to pull her dress down before one annoying sound bounced off the air.
She pushed him almost the same way she did earlier when Hoseok called.
"I... I got a phone call," she breathed.
Jungkook's head fell next to hers, buried into the mattress momentarily before he lifted it up and stared at her with deeply furrowed brows. "Right. Could be important."
He rolled to the side and she quickly got off the bed to retrieve the device from her dressing table.
"Yeah, Jen," he heard Chaeyoung said, failing at showing calmness. "What? Yeah. Of course I'm okay. Yeah. No, no you don't need to come. I'm fine. I promise. Yes, I'm totally fine. What do you mean? I'm breathing just fine, Jennie. No, I'm... I'm not on a night run."
Jungkook sat up on the bed and propped his elbows on his knees. He'd waited almost a lifetime in his own world, so he figured a few minutes of call wouldn't hurt. But he proved himself wrong when he stood to his feet and stepped towards her.
Chaeyoung stopped talking for a moment when Jungkook wrapped his arms around her from behind, mimicking his own moves from earlier, assaulting her neck and shoulder with kisses and soft bites.
"Yes, there's nothing to worry about. I got home safely. It's alright," she said all too quickly and Jungkook smirked against her shoulder when she took one deep breath.
He pulled back a little, thumb and index fingers took a hold of that zipper on the back of her dress. Slowly, he pulled it down, and slowly, at every second that it was moving downwards, her soft and pale white skin was revealed. He pulled it down until it reached the end of it, which was just a few inches above the level of her tailbone.
The back of Jungkook's fingers brushed softly against her skin making her shuddered under his touch.
"I gotta go. I'll get back to you later," she said, and put the phone down inside her drawer.
Jungkook lifted his eyes and looked over her shoulder, staring into their reflection on the mirror and the fact that she was staring back at him with her teeth gnawing on her lip made him use both of his appendages to free her body from the beautiful garment.
She turned around as soon as she was finally unclothed; tugging on his belt and Jungkook stayed gazing into her eyes as he unbuckled his belt and pushed his pants down together with it. Everything pooled together, a mess tangled on the floor and Jungkook bent to connect their lips before he decided to sweep her feet off the floor, his strong arms went under her knees and he lifted her easily into his arms while she deepened their kiss.
They got on the bed, into a position they previously were in and like their clothes on the floor, they were one beautiful mess, tangled on the bed in the most beautiful way, with beautiful sounds of breaths becoming the background music and Jungkook couldn't ask for more. He kissed her at all the areas he could get and reached, expressed all his locked up emotions all at once as he made it pleasurable for the both of them and every pain he previously felt had been wiped off his system.
This time, this moment, it made him believe that everything between them was finally, truly all right again.
