Emma

I stared at the walls of the school, dreading walking in and facing Soran. Honestly, I don't even know why I even agreed to this. I should have put my foot down and said "no."

But I love Vicca and I value her opinion. She was only trying to help. I slowly shook my head and headed inside to the cafeteria. I found my group and carefully sat down, glancing around to see if Soran was around, or any of his pack members.

"What's got you so tense?" Gaven asked as he fed his mate her fruit.

"I'm watching for Soran." I said as I glanced around.

"Why?" Emily said around a bite of strawberry. She swallowed before she spoke again. "He's a jerk and not one to mess with. Why are you looking for him?"

I slowly shook my head. "I don't know, either. Honestly, I don't even know why I'm doing this... I just want to get it over with and put it behind me. I don't want to deal with this anymore."

"If you say so..." Linda muttered and I shoved at her shoulder, making her protest.

"Mm!" We all looked to Emily. She quickly swallowed her bite. "There! He and a couple people from his group just walked in!" I looked over to where she was pointing to see him and two other guys sit at a table.

I took a deep breath. "Alright, wish me luck."

"Wait, Emma!" But I ignored my group as I marched over to Soran with my head held high.

"Soran," He and his group looked up as I got to their table and spoke. "I-"

"Soran, baby!" I was shoved back a few steps as some girl suddenly clung to him. "I missed you, baby! Last night was amazing! We have to do that again! Oh, who's she?" She sneered when she saw me standing there.

My eyes narrowed and I swallowed back a growl. "No one, obviously. Never mind, Soran."

"Emma," But I was already gone and back with my group.

"How'd it go?" Kester asked.

I snarled at him as I grabbed my things. "Shut up!" He leaned away from me, his hands up in defense. I stalked away from the group to who knows where. I didn't care where I went at the moment. I just had to get away from Soran.

I ended up finding a quiet part of the school. The hall is empty and I can't hear anyone in either direction. I took a seat against a wall and decided to work on homework and contemplate why I even thought about talking to Soran.

From what I saw, it's obvious that he wants to be with this other chick. Or, does she just think that? Either way, I know he doesn't want to be with me. He has all these other girls in the school at his beck and call. He doesn't need me. He doesn't want me...

"Emma," I looked up at the sound of my name being called and groaned. "You wanted to say something to me?"

"Why not go back to the bitch who wants you?" I asked as I shoved my things in my bag, then stood. "You obviously don't need me."

He sighed. "Emma, that was nothing. I swear. It was a one night thing and-"

"Is that all I'll be?" I asked as I gripped the strap of my bag tighter. "A one night thing, then you'll be searching again?"

"No!" Soran quickly tried to fix his statement. "That's not what I meant! I mean, yeah, it was one night, but I told her that's all she'd ever be to me! I told her I wanted nothing more. But with you, if and when we do end up together, you'll be an all nighter."

I curled up the corner of my lip, but I could feel my body reacting to what he said. "Is that all you ever think about? Sex?"

He blinked slowly. "I... guess..."

I rolled my eyes in disgust. "Typical."

"But that's not the point," He quickly cut me off to keep from saying something else. "The point is that I came to find you to see what you wanted to talk to me about before we were interrupted by that girl."

"You don't even know her name?"

"That's not the point!" He snapped just as the bell rang. I started to leave. "Oh, no! You're staying here until we speak!" He pressed me against the wall. I shoved hard, making him stumble back.

"We have class." I glared at him before I headed to my first hour. The entire trip there, I had this nagging feeling at the back of my mind.

Why did I like the way he talked about me being with him all night? Why did my body practically explode with the need for him to be closer when he pressed me against the wall? Why is my body acting the way it is around him?! I don't want this at all!

I seriously have to get this straightened out...

"Emma," I looked up to my name being called, a bite of chow mein hanging out of my mouth. Soran swallowed. "I have to speak to you. Now. Alone."

"After I finish eating." I said around another bite.

"No, now." He grabbed my upper arm, the sparks dancing at our touch. He pulled me from the table, my food falling from my fork.

"Hey!" I quickly swallowed the bite I finished. "I wasn't done! Let go!" He did let go, but we were in a secluded part of the school. No one was around.

"What was that about?" I demanded as I crossed my arms.

"We were interrupted this morning." He stated as he towered over me. I went to take a step back, but ended up bumping into the wall.

I gulped. "No, we had to get to class. We weren't interrupted." My heart started to beat faster as he moved closer. Damn it, stop it! I don't want to feel this way about him! This isn't right! It's not supposed to happen!

"We were interrupted." He insisted. "Now, what were you about to say this morning?"

I took a deep breath and pushed him back a few steps. "First, I need space. Second, I wanted to speak to you about something... important."

"Oh?" I took my hand back from him. "Like what?"

I took a deep breath. No going back now. "A friend of mine... she wanted me to speak to you. Well, actually, she prompted me to have someone else speak to you..."

His eyebrows furrowed together a bit in confusion. "Someone else? Who? I don't want to speak to anyone else but you."

I shut my eyes and lowered my head a bit, slowly opening them half way. "You'd still be speaking to me... sort of..."

"Sort of?" He questioned as he took another step.

I held a hand out to keep him back. "Please. I want this much space between us. No less than this." I met his gaze once more.

Then I gave Anna full control.

Anna

I watched as Soran's eyes widened a bit in shock. He wasn't expecting it to be me he was going to speak to. "Hello..." I said a bit shyly.

A sly smirk formed on his lips. "Well, hello. To what do I owe the pleasure of speaking to my mate's Wolf?"

"It... was my idea..." I admitted. "I... wanted to see for myself what you were really like..." Okay, why am I coming out all shy and weak sounding? This isn't me!

"We can find a closet, if you'd like." He started to reach for me past the boundary.

"No!" I squeaked as I ducked away from him and out to the open. "That's not what I meant! I meant to understand why you do this! Why you are going with other women when you're supposed to be with Emma and I! Why aren't you being loyal to us?!"

He remained silent, slowly breaking eye contact.

"Don't you want to be with us?" I asked as I picked at my finger nails.

"I do!"

"Don't you like us?"

"I do!"

"Then why aren't you showing it?!" I demanded as I bared my teeth at him. "We've been keeping track! Since you found out I was your mate, you've been with nearly half the female population at this school! Hell, just last night you were with that bitch! Why can't you stay loyal?!" He stayed quiet, refusing to meet my gaze.

"Emma's right." That got his attention. "You're not worth our time. You'll only end up hurting us in the end. You don't care. You say you do, but it's as clear as the nose on your face that you don't! You only care about getting off with someone, then leaving them as if they never existed! I don't want to get hurt, and neither does Emma."

"What are you going to do?" He asked with a slight growl, his hands tightening to fists.

I took a step towards him, making myself taller. "I will do everything in my power to help Emma reject you. You aren't worth it. We don't need you!"

This time, he didn't hold his growl back. "You are not rejecting me! I won't allow it! You will be mine, even if I have to force it upon you! I can and I will claim you right now if I have to!" Holy shit, my body just about burst from the way he spoke to me! Why do I want that?! I don't want him to claim me! Not when he's acting like he is and is screwing with other women!

I snarled back at him. "Try it. You won't get far." He lunged for me, but I expertly got out of the way and tripped him. His chin cracked against the tiled floor, but he quickly got back up. He spun for me. I took his wrist, ignored the sparks, and redirected him, bringing his body against the wall. I twisted his arm up his back, making him hiss in pain.

"Face it." I whispered. "It won't happen. Once I set my mind to something, I don't back down. I will help Emma reject you so we won't have to deal with your bullshit anymore!"

Before I could react, I was suddenly pinned against the wall, trapped. "It's not happening, sweetheart." I looked up and held back a gasp. His own Wolf has now surfaced. "You will be mine, no matter what! I will claim you right here and right now!" As he went for my neck, I rammed my knee right into his gut. He grunted, which allowed me to slip away and run.

"Get back here!" I shivered, his Alpha tone nearly making me stop. I shook my head to clear it and rounded a corner. Thank God I did! I slipped in to the girl's bathroom. He can't follow me in here. I went to the very back of the bathroom and sat against the wall. I just hope he's gone by the time I'm ready to leave.

Just before I gave Emma control once more, I told her what had happened, and what to expect.

The bell rang to end lunch. Soran is still out there. How do I know? Kester told me he was still there. Meaning I'm stuck here. I need to get to class. Can I make a run for it?

Probably not...

A sudden blaring sound made me jump and gasp. My hands flew to my ears as a bright light flashed with the sound.

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" I shouted over the fire alarm as it echoed in the bathroom. Just my luck that we'd be having a drill now... I stood from the wall, my hands covering my ears, as I stepped from the bathroom and blended in to the sea of bodies. I'm surprised I didn't see Soran.

I made it outside and joined my fifth hour to be counted for attendance. Linda stood beside me.

"So, how'd it go?" She whispered as the teacher took roll.

"Anna and I are now agreeing that we should reject him. Here!" I replied.

"Shut up!" She lightly pushed my shoulder. "There's no way you both -here!- agreed on something!"

"Well, we did." I crossed my arms and sighed. My eyes landed on Soran, who was at the front of the class group. When the alarm went off, his Alpha instinct must have kicked in. Even though he doesn't run this pack, he still has the urge to protect people when there's danger around.

Even though this is just a drill...

"So, when you gonna do it?" She asked as we moved closer together.

"I honestly have no idea." I sighed as I crossed my arms. "But it has to happen. I can't deal with this anymore."

"I hear ya." We fell silent after that as we waited for the drill to end. After another two-ish minutes of waiting, the alarms finally stopped and we were given the OK to enter the school again after another thirty seconds.

"How do you plan on rejecting him?" Linda asked as we made our way to class.

I glanced up just as Soran looked back. We locked gazes before I looked away. "Skill. Skill and pure luck."

"Will it work?"

Our eyes met and I let out a heavy sigh. "I honestly have no idea..."
