You Disobeyed Me
The next day-
Jessica had just gotten out of her court hiring when she got a text from Olivia.
*Hey mom, I'm taking the bus home.*
Jessica then thought about leaving work early. She couldn't get what Sean had told her out of her mind. It kept going through her head. She kept re-running what she would say to Olivia. She planned to take her phone and read it, she had an idea that Olivia would just lie if she asked her.
Jessica was able to get off early after she was done in court. As she was leaving Danny was waiting in the lobby for her.
"Danny, what are you doing here?" Jessica says walking up to him.
"I've been trying to get ahold of you."
"Yea I know. What do you need, I've been busy."
"It's about Olivia... this is the third time she's left your house for mine. Maybe we should re-think our schedule? I think she wants to spend more time at my house."
Jessica's heart sank. Yesterday wasn't the first time Olivia left Jessica's. It hurt her feelings in a way.
"I don't think that is necessary. It will just cause lots of chaos. The schedule we have now is fine. Besides, you live twenty minutes away from her school."
"She told me you're always at work. How can you care for our children if you are never home?"
"Excuse me? Who are you to talk! I do care for our children. The reason I'm always at work is because you took everything from me. Maybe if you didn't I would have time to take off. You did this."
"I want to be civil."
"We are past civil, asshole. Don't come to my office unless it is an emergency. And don't tell me that I don't care for my children!" Jessica raises her voice then walks away.
"Jessica, wait-" he yells as she goes outside
When she gets in the car she bangs her fist in the steering wheel and breaks into tears. She was so angry at Danny. she was angry that he was right. She was never home. She tried to hard to be...
**
Jessica got home just a little bit before the bus did. She sat by the window and waited. She decided what she was going to do when Olivia got home. She kept thinking, what if I make her mad and she wants to stay with Danny? What if she just tries to get out of it and go to his house. Then she realized she can't let the kids have that on her.
The bus drove past the house, there was no Olivia. Jessica became furious. Olivia had lied.
Jessica waited it out for a bit.
About twenty minutes later a white chevy had pulled up into the driveway. Jessica had never noticed the car before. Jessica quickly slid on her heels and ran outside.
She saw Olivia lean over and kiss the boy. Then Olivia's eyes were set on Jessica. She jumped in a way, shocked. She got out of the car quickly.
"Mom? What are you doing here?" She says
"Get inside right now!" Jessica yells as loud as she could.
"Who are you?" Jessica says looking at the boy.
"I'm Nathan. Ma'am I was just giving her a ride home. That's all, really."
"I don't want you speaking to my daughter ever again. Now leave before I call the cops!"
"Whoa, sorry lady." He rolls up the window and drives off.
Olivia looks at Jessica with tears rolling down her face. "Are you crazy? Why are you spying on me?" She yells
"Go inside, now! And give me your phone!"
Olivia rolls her eyes and throws the phone at Jessica.
Olivia runs inside and Jessica follows her.
Jessica waited by the front door as Olivia rushed up to her room and slammed the door.
Jessica unlocked her phone and read all of her messages and snapchats with Nathan. All of their messages consisted of 'I love you', hearts, and girlfriend boyfriend like things. They had been together since October... What caught Jessica's attention was the messages of them getting together. That wasn't the first time Olivia was with Nathan. Her cousin Layla was her way of seeing Nathan. The three of them got together, all the time, weekly! Jessica continued reading. Olivia had lied to Jessica this whole time and was beyond pissed. She went into Olivia's phone settings, blocked Nathan, deleted all of his contacts, changed all of her passwords, and restricted her phone.
Jessica was so angry she needed time to gather herself and decided what she would do to punish Olivia. Jessica felt like in a way that it was her fault. Though things had been going well, the last few months were the hardest for Jessica. She had been so busy with the divorce and work that she felt like she had not been paying enough attention. If things hadn't been the way they were she would have caught on sooner. After she got herself together she went into her room. It was locked.
Jessica ran her fingers on the top of the door frame and found the key. She opened it.
Olivia's room was a mess. Olivia looked at her with mascara running down her face.
"How many times have I told you, no boyfriends!" Jessica yells walking into her room
"Mom! I like him and he likes me! He makes me happy, he isn't like other boys I swear!"
"I don't care what so ever. You disobeyed me and my rules. You snuck out with him, you told me you were with Layla all this time but you weren't, you have a boyfriend! You are grounded!"
"You are so unfair!"
"You lied to me for months. I trusted you, you went behind my back and that's not acceptable. I will pick you up everyday from school. You will come home, go to your room and do your homework, clean, eat dinner, then go to bed. No friends, no phone, no tv, no anything for however long I decide!" Jessica says loudly
"You're over reacting. You had a boyfriend when I was his old. I'm sorry for lying, but please re-think this!"
"I will in a month. But you young lady have lost all of my trust. You are to never speak to this boy ever again. Do you hear me? You will end things with him."
"What? No! He loves me, I love him!"
"That's a lie Olivia. Boys only want one thing, and that's sex. End this, now. And I will talk to your father about this. You don't know what love is, you are fourteen."
" Well you didn't either. That's why you and dad are divorced. I hate you! You are the worst! Dad wouldn't do this. You're just mad that I have someone that loves me. And someone who actually pays attention to me unlike you. I want to live with dad!"
Jessica stops for a moment and looks at Olivia with a death stare. She walks over to her tv and unplugs it. Then she takes the remote and breaks it. "You do not talk to me like that. Your father will be just as mad. All of a sudden your dad is your hero? Isn't he? Remember how he left us? Huh? He took everything and left? He didn't talk to you for months! I did, I stayed. And I've worked my ass off to get everything back that I earned while he was fucking another women! Do I have to leave and take everything to be your hero? Huh?" Jessica says pointing her finger in Olivia's face.
Olivia was shook. She never had seen Jessica so angry.
"I don't care! I like him better than you! He actually comes home from work. Maybe you should leave!"
"You aren't going over your father's until it's his time to see you. You'll stay here. You can't run away because you don't like how things are going here. I'm not letting you do that. I'm your mother. Your father will know about this, and I know he won't be happy."
"Now I see why dad left you." She says walking away.
Jessica ignores it and leaves her room, slamming the door.
Jessica goes into her room and sobs uncontrollably. She had never yelled at any of her children that much. That's because they had never disobeyed her. They were always such good kids. Jessica and Danny always had a strict rule of no dating. That rule was to protect her kids. Jessica didn't mean to say the things she said, but she was so angry and hurt. Hearing that Olivia wanted to live with her dad triggered Jessica.
**
That night Jessica laid in her bed, she decided to call Danny.
"Hey, Jessica. What's going on? You never call."
"It's about Olivia... she's been seeing someone."
"Who?"
"A boy, he is in Sean's grade. She's been with him since October. Apparently they see each other a lot out of school too."
"What? She isn't aloud to date! She knows that. Did you change the rule? If you did I don't agree."
"No I didn't change the rule. That's why I called you. She's grounded, but I thought you should know."
"Thank you... I'm just so mad. Boys only want one thing. She's so young and he's a junior."
"Yea... her excuse is that we dated."
"Still, that's not an excuse. Besides, we were different."
"I know... You can decide how you want to ground her when she's at your house. When she's here she isn't aloud to do anything but study and clean. No phone, tv, or friends."
"That's how it will be here... maybe she should just stay at your house this weekend. And Jessica about what I said earlier, I'm sorry."
"You are such an asshole, Sean! I hate you!" Olivia yells from outside Jessica's room. Jessica heard the kids fighting.
"Don't worry about it. But listen Danny, I have to go. Can I call you later?"
"Sure-"
Jessica hangs up and runs outside of her room.
"You're so stupid for dating him!" Sean yells
"Hey! What is going on here?" Jessica says crossing her arms
"Olivia, she's mad that I told you."
"You are a tattle tail. You know nothing about Nathan and I."
"Shut up. You're a stupid freshman. He hooks up with all the girls."
"Sean! That's enough, and Olivia back to your room." Jessica says pointing to her door.
"You're an ass, Sean. That isn't true."
"Guess what, your boyfriend fucked another girl last week at Greg Riler's party."
"Sean Daniel Huston, your room! Now!" Jessica yells
The kids both go to their rooms and slam their doors.
Jessica sighs.... I never thought this day would come.
