Will

It was the day of the funeral. Calling hours were the previous day. It had already been so hard for everyone. No one could imagine how hard the funeral would be.

Jessica and the children woke up early in the morning to get ready. Once again they were driving over with Danny. Still, things were a bit tense between the kids and Danny. Jessica could feel it. It was terrible, she felt stuck in the middle of it all. Olivia totally zoned out Danny and didn't pay any mind to him. She tried to avoid conversation at all coast. Sean wasn't as bad. He still had some anger towards Danny, but he pushed it aside when they were around family.

Before they left Jessica stepped out of her room to talk to Sam on the phone.

"Hey, how is it going?" Sam asks

Jessica sighs "Terrible... it's just so sad. Losing John is like losing a Dad. The kids are broken." She whispers

"I wish I could hold you. I'm sorry, Jess. I know how close you are with all of them."

"We are heading to the funeral now. We might leave the day after tomorrow. I can't miss too much work and Sean needs to go back to work as well."

"Well, I'LL see you when you get home. I know everything just seems so 'eh!' Right now, but we will be able to celebrate our anniversary soon. That's something to look forward to."

"That's right, I'm excited. I love you, I miss you."

"I miss you too."

When the phone call ended Jessica turned her body back to the room and Danny stood by it.

"Oh!" Jessica jumps, startled by Danny's presence

"Sorry, I was just-"

"No, you're fine. I didn't see you there." She chuckles

Danny shakes his head. It was a bit awkward for him after over hearing Jessica talking to Sam.

"Are you guys ready?"

Jessica nods "Yes, I'll go get them now."

After saying their last goodbyes to their grandfather, Sean and Olivia find a seat with Jessica.

"How are you two holding up?" Jessica asks softly

"This sucks." Sean mumbles

Olivia wipes her tears "I hate seeing Grammy so sad... she lost the love of her life." Olivia says

Jessica wraps her arms around Sean and Olivia then kisses the top of their heads.

"He's in a better place..."

After the funeral everyone went to Angelica's. It was a big train of people. Jessica kept to her self for a bit while all of Danny's family was together. Even though she was very close with them all she wanted to give them their space. Especially when they were with Danny. She didn't want to interfere and make it awkward. The two of them being together was awkward for everyone.

As she sat on the couch pondering Danny's brother Tony sat next to Jessica.

"Hey Tony." Jessica says as he hugs her and leaves a kiss on her cheek.

"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?"

"Sure"

"Would it be trouble for you to stay a few extra days?"

"Oh gosh, I don't know. Tony, I have to be back at work. Is everything okay?" Jessica says.

"My dad, he left you in his will. The reading is this Friday."

Jessica widens her eyes in shock. In no way did she think John would ever leave anything for her. Jessica thought maybe it was for Sean and Olivia.

"For the kids?" She asks

"No, for you." He says

Jessica takes a deep breath. She didn't really know what to think. She couldn't imagine how Danny's siblings and mother may feel. Jessica wasn't his child. She felt very weird.

Tony could sense Jessica was confused. "Jess, I know this may be a little confusing to you. But not for us. My dad loved you like his own. He always wanted you to be taken care of."

Jessica holds her chest - "Tony, I can't accept anything from your father." Jessica says politely

Tony chuckles "Dad told me you'd do this."

"What?" Jessica raises her eyebrow

"A few months ago my dad was talking to my mother, siblings and I. He strictly said that you were going to be in the will. He said you'd try to decline, but to not let you." He chuckles again

"Does Danny know?" She whispers

He shakes his head "No, but who cares.
Will you be able to stay for the reading?"

"Tony, I'm sorry but I can't. Sean needs to be back for work and so do I." She says nervously

"That's okay... really. We can figure something out." he says hugging her again.

"... and thank you." He adds

"For what?" She asks

"For loving my dad as much as we did. For always calling to check up on him, and visiting. You did something that a certain someone didn't." He says turning in Danny's direction.

Jessica could feel the tension. Danny wasn't that close with his family for a year or so. Ever since the divorce he just distances himself from everyone. He rarely called his father.

Jessica nods "He was a great man, Tony. I wish things didn't have to be this way." Jessica says

"Me too... but he isn't sick anymore. I keep reminding myself of that."

After spending lots of time with the family Sean and Olivia were going home with Jessica. Danny was staying behind for the reading and to be with his mother.

Saying their goodbyes was hard, but Olivia and Sean promised to visit before the summer ended.

The drive back home was long, but it was worth it when Jessica came home to Sam waiting in their living room.

"Hey guys" He says as they walk into the door. He helps with their bags and gives them all a hug.

"Hey Sam!" Olivia says

"How did it go?"

"It sucked, it was sad... we hopefully are going to go back this summer." Sean says

"I'm sorry again, guys."

"Thanks, but grandpa was sick. He isn't anymore." Olivia says as she heads up the stairs

Jessica pouts

"I made everyone dinner. I can only imagine how hungry all of you are." He says wrapping his arms around Jessica from behind.

"Thank you, Hun. I'm exhausted." She chuckles

"...kids, why don't you go unpack, bring down all of your dirty laundry, then we can eat." She says, hoping to have some private time with Sam.

They both nod, grab their things, then run up to their rooms. When they are gone Jessica faces Sam and gives him a long and passionate kiss. She hated being away from him. Kissing him wAs so refreshing.

"I missed you..." She whispers

"I missed you too... why don't we go talk?" He says, noticing that Jessica looked a bit flustered.

Jessica nods. They walk outside onto the front porch and sit on the swinging chair.

"So, How was the trip for you?" He asks

Jessica sighs "Sad, Of course. Things were just so weird, with Danny." She says

"Why? Does he know about the will?" Sam asks.

Jessica quickly shakes her head "No, but I'm not worrying about that.
I think it's just the fact that we were always around each other these last couple of days. It was overwhelming." She chuckles

"Well, you're with me now. No need to feel overwhelmed."

"And Olivia... gosh, she barely spoke to Danny. Of course she tried to set things aside just for the sake of her grandmother who would hate to see Danny and the kids not talking. But every time he tried she pushed him away. It was all so tense." Jessica says moving her arms in the air.

Sam put his hands on her shoulders and rubbed them. He could feel how tense she was. Jessica always loved Danny's family and she loved visiting. When Danny was there as her ex, it just seemed weird. It reminded her of the past and their trips they always took as a family. Those happy times when she was with him is what she missed most and wanted back when she was no longer with him. Being reminded of things like that with Danny always made her confused and sad. On top of it all it was a sad trip. Jessica was just glad to be home and with Sam. Being away from Danny felt like weights were being taken off her back.
