Who Is My Person

November-

"I'm glad you did come in, Jessica. It seems that we had lots to catch up on since your divorce and the shooting. At a time of crisis, I'm glad you turned to therapy. It's always seemed to help you." Her therapist says

"I was at my breaking point. I feel so selfish coming here.... Olivia needs more help then me-"

"But you need help too. I can see why things have been so hard for you, mentally. You have lots to take in." She says

"Alright...." Jessica sighs

"I'll start you back up on Zoloft for anxiety and depression. Then, trazadone to help you sleep better. Remember, you'll only see me once a week. Find your person to talk to."

"Sam.... he's my person."

Later that day-

Sam was extra busy around the farm and market. It was one of her days off and Logan's day off too, So she decided to take him to the mall.

"Mommy, it's so big!" He says holding her hand as they walk into a toy store.

Logan had been handling all of the chaos at home so well and was just so well behaved that he deserved a treat.

"Why don't you go pick something out?" She asks

"For me?" He smiles

"Yes! For you!" She giggles

"Thank you!" He smiles

Jessica keeps an eye on him as he scavenges for the toy of his choice.

When Logan was ready he came up to Jessica with one single, small toy.

"Oh! A tractor! Are you sure that's it for you?"

"Well, it's for daddy. I don't need anymore toys." He smiles

In this moment Jessica's heart melted.

"Awww, Logan. I took you here today to get you a treat. I wanted you to pick out a toy for yourself. You have been such a good boy and have been so great ever since you came into our lives. You deserve a treat." Jessica smiles

"Ice cream?" He smiles

"If that's what you'd like, then yes! Ice cream can be your treat."

"But the tractor, for daddy? It looks like big green!" Logan had names for every single one of his dads tractors.

"Oh course, he'll love it."

Jessica and Logan drove down to their favorite ice cream shop. Only Jessica and Logan were fans.... they ordered then sat in the car.

"Mommy, is everything okay now?" He asks

Jessica chokes up and nods. "Yes, baby... we had a bad start to the year, huh?"  She pouts

"I hope it wasn't me being scared all the time." He sighs

"Honey! Of course not! You're mommy's angel. You aren't scared anymore thanks to Doctor Green, right?"

"Yeah! She helped me!"

"Logan... do you still think of your mama?" She asks hesitantly.

"Yeah... I never get to visit her."

In that moment, Jessica had an idea... Logan lost his mom in the hardest way possible. Her life was taken just in front of his eyes, but his father... it would scar him from life. But she wanted to find a way to ease that pain. She wanted to give Logan a chance to see his mom.

Later that night-

After dinner and lots of cleaning up, Jessica went to go check on Olivia who had just started back up at school.

She was in her room, listening to music, doing homework with one hand? And tapping her fingers on the desk with the other.

"Hey babygirl, how's makeup work coming along?"

"I'm almost there. And I'm so relived we got that tutor. I brought some grades up, the rest all depends on test scores. So I'm really trying to study." She says

"I'm so proud of you.... the improvements made over the last few months amaze me."

"I don't feel the way I did.... it's like a million pounds have been lifted off my shoulders... dad being back in my life helps. Just me being more involved in my life helps. I thank you for that." She smiles

"Don't thank me, thank yourself. You're so strong, Livy."

Jessica gives her daughter the tightest hug. She didn't want to let go. She was relieved to know and see how much better things were.

That night Sam finally settled in bed. He was exhausted and worn down from how busy he had been.

As he laid down next to Jessica, she got into thinking how distant she had been from her husband sexually, mentally, and physically.  Earlier her therapist told her to find her person. Her mind went straight to Sam, but now she was wondering if he really was. After months of chaos and drama, they disconnected due to stress and the kids. Work Was in the way, the farm, everything. Jessica wanted Sam to be her person again.... it felt impossible, because to everyone else, Jessica is their person.

"I'm about to close my eyes. Good night." He says leaving her a kiss on her cheek

"You're going to bed now? This is the first time all day that we've been alone. I want to talk." She sighs

"Can we talk in the morning? I'm too tired to talk." He says

"Sam.... I had my appointment today and you never asked how it went. Can't you see how short we've been with each other, only talking about schedules, what's for dinner, and the kids 24/7. We never talk about us. You're suppose to be my person. You don't feel like it anymore. I need a person."

Sam was too tired to fully concentrate. Yet he could sense from her tone that she needed him. He came to the realization, like Jessica, that they were distant.

"I don't know what you want me to say...." He says "I'm sorry."

"Sorry isn't enough! I don't want an apology. I want you, here, in the moment, with me, talking about us..."

"What do you mean by talk more about us? Do you see problems?"

"I see them in the future... yes. We don't talk like we used too. All of this stress on us, it's doing damage and I'm slowly starting to feel that. I don't want to feel that. I want us to be us. I need you to be my person."
