Red Flags

Once they got to the hospital they immediately took Olivia to the ER. Jessica stayed with her the whole time while Sean waited in the waiting room. He had called Dorthy to come.

While they took Olivia to the back they gave her oxygen and an IV to calm her down. She became a bit drowsy and tired. Not once did Olivia let go of Jessica's hand.

"Mommy, What's wrong?" She mumbles

Jessica kneels onto the ground and rubs her forehead. "Everything's okay, baby girl. Just keep breathing and relax." As scared as Jessica was she knew she had to stay calm for Olivia. She only felt that it was right to bring her in.

An hour or so later Olivia was sleeping. Jessica was in a chair next to her bed. She was in an uncomfortable position with half her body on the bed and half of her body on the chair. Her doctor then came in, which woke Jessica up.

She left the room to speak with him. "Olivia's EKG came back and everything's clear. No sign of any type of heart attack which is good." He says

"What was that? I've never seen her so..."

"I'm thinking it's a panic attack. Usually they have the same symptoms as heart attacks. So I can see why you brought her in."

Jessica rubs her temples with both fingers then sighs. She was relieved that is was nothing too serious.

"From What you told me prior to her coming, I'm just guessing that it may have caused her panic attack."

"What do we do now?"

"I'd really recommend that maybe Olivia sees someone that can help her manage her anxiety and help her avoid episodes like tonight's. Panic attacks aren't super dangerous, but they aren't fun either."

"Alright, I'll try to find someone for her to talk to, if you think that's best."

"Just make sure that she takes it easy and that she eliminates the stressor for a while. Whatever that may be."

Jessica knew exactly who it was, Danny.

"Okay, thank you so much."

"I'll get her discharge papers."

"I'm going to go check up on my son. I'll be back to sign them."

"No rush, it will take a minute."

While Jessica waited she checked on Olivia who was sleeping then went into the living room.

Sean was a nervous wreck and Dorthy was trying to comfort him. Once Sean saw her he ran up to Jessica and hugged her, trying not to cry.

"I'm sorry that I didn't carry her out sooner, mom. I was so scared!"

Jessica holds onto him and rubs his back with her one arm. "Thank you, Sean. You're a great kid. You know that, right?" She says breaking them hug and holding his arms.

"I was just in shock. I didn't know what to do. Is she okay?" He asks

"They said it's just a panic attack. Nothing too too serious." Jessica says

"Thank goodness it wasn't anything really bad. How is she doing?" Dorthy says hugging Jessica.

"She's doing alright. They gave her some type of sedative to calm her down. She's resting but I have to sign the discharge papers and we can go."

"I can't believe Dad! What an ass!" Sean clenches his teeth and rolls his eyes. Dorthy holds him.

"I know... for know let's try not to talk about it. I don't want to trigger anything." Jessica says

"I'm just glad she's okay." Sean says

"Me too, baby. Thank you for being such an amazing big brother." Jessica kisses his cheek then rubs her forehead.

"Mom, it's getting late. Do you mind taking Sean home and I'll drive back in his car?" Jessica says

"Sure, honey."

"I'll be home soon, okay? I just don't want to keep you two here for a while. It's a school night, alright?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Thank you, I love you!" Jessica says

"I love you too."

Once the discharge papers were approved Jessica drove Olivia home and Sean came down to carrier her up to her room.

It was only around one am when Jessica was finally able to calm down and lay in bed. The kids were all asleep. Jessica had just revived a goodnight texted from Sam and decided to call him.

"Sorry for texting you so late!" Sam says right away

"Oh no, it's fine. I was hoping you were still up."

sam could hear from Jessica's voice that she was exhausted. "Is everything okay?"

"No..."

Jessica goes on telling sam everything that happened.

"I really wish I could be there to help you."

"I wish you could be too. I need someone to hold me." She says with a soft chuckle

"I hope Olivia gets better."

"Me too. I can't send her to school tomorrow so I'll be home with her. Maybe I'll call Danny and give the asshole a piece of my mind."

"I can't believe he did that to them."

"Me too. And Olivia's never gotten like this before. It must have all been building up, poor thing."

"Damn. I'm lost for words."

"Sam, I think it's best if I hold off on telling them. Olivia said some things today that I think put up some red flags."

"Of course, no don't say anything. Just focus on her getting better, Okay?"

"Okay, thank you for understanding."

"I'll see you soon, okay?"

"Okay, good night."

"Good night, jessie."

The next morning//

Olivia stayed in bed all day while Sean went to school. Jessica was able to find someone for Olivia to talk to the very next day.

"Liv, you have to get up. I don't want to be late." Jessica says knocking on her door.

"I don't want to talk to someone! I'm fine!"

Jessica sighs... "Olivia Lynn, please!"

Olivia swings her door open then groans. "This is so embarrassing!"

"No it isn't. It's just between you and the doctor... Alright?"

"Fine!" She hisses

**

Jessica waited in the waiting room while Olivia was talking with the therapist. It had been almost two hours that she had been waiting. In those two hours Jessica kept contemplating what she'd say to Danny. She was so angry with him. Jessica was just angry for him hurting Olivia and Sean the way he did.

Olivia walks into the waiting room and Jessica smiles.

"How'd it go?" She says

"Fine... I guess she wants to talk with you."

"Oh, okay. Do I just go in?"

Olivia nods then Jessica walks in. Jessica closes the door then begins talking with the therapist.

"Olivia is a very sweet girl, Ms. Lange."

"Well thank you." Jessica smiles

"As you can tell I spent lots of time with her. And I found a few red flags that I'd like to discuss with you if you don't mind."

"Red flags?" Jessica then becomes nervous

"I think Olivia might be a bit depressed... I understand that you and your kids have been through a lot, but from what I've heard I think Olivia is just taking it a little bit harder. And that's common for teenage girls. Divorce is hard on everyone. I'd really like to have her come back in for more sessions."

"Depression?" Jessica felt like her heart had fell to the ground and shattered into a million pieces. Hearing this from her therapist just made her feel like a horrible mother. It made her feel like she hadn't been paying enough attention. And lastly it made her angry.

Jessica tears up and the lady hands Jessica a box of tissues.

"This is all my fault." Jessica cries

"No, no it isn't. It's not your fault what so ever."

**

On the way home the car was silent. All that you could hear was the radio.

Jessica decided to turn it down and talk to Olivia.

"Liv... can I talk to you?"

"Yeah.."

"Why don't you ever come to me when you're sad? I'm always here for you, love."

"Mom, don't worry about it. The therapist over exaggerated."

"Olivia, I'm your mother. You can tell me anything. Why don't you?" Jessica says

"Because Mom, when Dad left you were a mess. I didn't want to add onto your stress with my stupid problems!"

Jessica sighed "your problems aren't stupid! Last night scared the hell out of me. You've been holding in all your anger and when it all came out you got sick. I love you so much, and I care about you so much. I want you to come to me and talk to me. No matter how much of s mess I may be in it's my job as your mother to be there for you and help you. Do you promise me that you will come talk to me?"

Olivia didn't respond, she just sighed.

"Olivia, don't ever be afraid to come to me. You and your brother matter most to me in the world and I want you two to always be happy."

"Okay..."

"Livy..."

"Okay, Yes!" She snaps

Monday//

Over the weekend Jessica was dealing with Olivia the whole weekend. She was still off and down. There was no word from Danny either. She tried to call him but he just let her down again and again after every voicemail she left.

Jessica had be stressed and upset. She tried everything she could to boost Olivia's sprits but she wasn't having it. She kept to herself and on Saturday she spent the day with her cousins at Jane's house.

After the kids left for school on Monday Jessica wanted to go see Sam. She knew that seeing him would just put her mind at ease.

As Jessica walked into the farm Sam was right by the stands, loading the baskets with fresh vegetables and fruit.

"Hey" Jessica says coming up behind him

Sam turns around and smiles. "Oh, hey! I didn't expect to see you here. What's up?" He says kissing her cheek.

"I just needed to see you. Do you have a minute before I start work?"

"Yeah, sure lets go find a bench." He takes her hand and Jessica follows him to a bench by a pond.

They sit down and Sam rests his hand on Jessica's lap. "How are things going at home?" He says

"Honestly, horrible. Everything's off. Danny has once again passed at making everyone upset. I hate to see Liv so down..."

"And you've tried talking with her?"

"Yes, multiple times. But she just shuts me out!"

"I wish there was something I could do."

"Me too..."

"Maybe it's Danny that Olivia needs to talk with. He's the one that hurt her, so maybe she's waiting for the right time to talk to him."

"I just wish she'd come to me more... when he left I was a train wreck. I didn't make it possible for them to come to me. What if she still thinks that she can't tell me anything? God I fucked up!"

"Hey.. that's not true. You're a wonderful mother. But she's a teenager. Teens usually keep to themselves. Just let her come to you when she's ready..."

Jessica nods then rests her head on Sam's shoulder.

"Chin up, darling." He says, kissing her.
