Plain & Simple
After Jessica brought up work to her mother the lunch date quickly came to an end. Dorthy was furious and Jessica was furious with her mother for not being supportive.
Jessica had a lot of thinking to do. Dorthy in a way made Jessica a bit scared. Jessica decided to just hold off telling the kids. She wanted to talk with Sam and see what he thought before a final decision was made.

A few days later-
Jessica was sitting at home as usual waiting for Olivia and Sean to get home from school.
Around three they walked into the door.
"Hey Mom!" Olivia says throwing her book bag on the floor.
"Hey You two, how was school?" Jessica says looking over the couch.
"Eh, school. How was your day?"
"Boring as usual." Sean walks around the couch and sits next to Jessica. Jessica gives him a hug.
"Is Sam coming over tonight?" Olivia asks
"Mhm, a little bit after the farm closes." Jessica says
Since it was a Friday Sam was going to stay for the weekend. Usually, him and Jessica would see each other during the week but with his busy schedule they weren't really able to see a lot of each other on weekdays. The weekends were still busy, but he was able To make more time for Jessica since he had lots of weekend staff.
"Cool, maybe we can go see that new Star Wars movie?" Sean says
"Ugh, Star Wars is so stupid! What about something better?" Olivia suggests
"You're stupid if you don't appreciate Star Wars." Sean snaps back
"Okay, that's enough." Jessica says
"You're an adult that likes Star Wars." Olivia says to him.
"Hey! Let's find a movie that we'd all like." Jessica adds trying to avoid conflict between her two teenagers.
"Go watch it with chess club." Olivia says
"I'm not even in chess club. That statement was just stupid." Sean snaps as he quickly gets irritated.
"But they are all nerds."
"Can it! Both of you." Jessica says
Sean and Olivia stop then Jessica let's out a chuckle.
"I swear, you two really don't know how to pick a good fight." She says shaking her head.

Sam came over a little bit after work. When he got their they all agreed to go see a movie, but Jessica got to pick. Before the movie they went out for pizza.
By time they got home it was a little late. Sean and Olivia went to their rooms for the night while Jessica and Sam stayed downstairs.
The two of them walked into the kitchen. They both sat down at the table with a glass of wine.
Jessica grabs her purse and pulls out her phone that had been off since dinner.
"Goodness, look at all these missed calls and voicemails! I must really be popular." Jessica says showing him.
"They look like they are all from your sisters." He says
Jessica's eyes widen. "What? I wonder if something is wrong..."
Jessica looks at her voicemails. Ann never left any as usual for Jane left a lot.
"Jessica, I just got done talking to Mom... call me, now."
...
"Don't avoid me, Jessica Phyllis Lange!"
...
"Jessica! Are you crazy? Call me."
Jessica rolls her eyes and scuffs. Dorthy had obviously told Ann and Jane about the work situation. Ann and Jane were always the ones to convince people and nag them. Jessica was slowly getting agitated.
Jessica throws her phone onto the table, ignoring the long group paragraphs.
When Sam saw Jessica in distress he took her hand.
"Jess, what's going on?" He asks
Jessica sighs "Latley I've been thinking..." She begins
"I want to go back to work. Plain and simple. I am so bored during the day, I miss the rush I get in the court room, I miss my job! I'm better, I've been better. You don't understand how much I want to go back.... but my mother, Well she doesn't want me too. She's scared that something will happen. But what are the odds? Very slim!" Jessica rambles
Sam was a bit taken back. He himself wasn't ready to hear that she wanted to go back. I think everyone was scared for her. They had a right to be, they almost lost her.
Sam nods in agreement. He saw how passionate Jessica was about going back. He had also seen her struggling with money. He didn't want that for her. He knew he had to be supportive.
"If you want to go back, you should. I won't tell you no if it's really what you want to do." He says sincerely
"Really?"
"Yes. Of course it's a little bit nerve wracking, but I know you'll be okay."
"As you know they aren't paying me as well on leave. I hate worrying about money. I need to be stable again. That's what I told my mother, but she doesn't understand. I don't want her money either."
"I get that. It's just motherly instincts. She's scared, that's all."
Jessica picks her phone up. "She told the big mouths." Jessica says shaking her phone.
"Ha, I see that."
"Thank you for being supportive. It's what I need. I know Sean and Olivia won't be that thrilled either."
"I think if you explain to them your very good reason to go back, they'll understand." He says
Jessica leans over the table and gives Sam a passionate kiss on the lips.
"And listen, don't stress about money.... okay?"
Jessica sighs "it's hard not too."
"I know, but I'll always be here to help. Do you need help?"
"Sam-"
"Do you need help?" He asks sternly
Jessica shakes her head. "I'll be fine."
Sam sighs "Don't be afraid to ask for help. I've always got your back."
Jessica giggles "Thank you."
