He Needs A Parent

December 17th-

"Sixteen weeks... hard to believe since you only have the smallest bump!" Her nurse jokes

Today was Jessica's sixteen week appointment. She got to see how much her baby girl had grown and they took tests as always to make sure everything was going smoothly inside.

"All of her numbers are good. Same for yours. Nothing bad was detected today." She smiles

"I'm hoping we don't come close to any heart problems. Since most babies with downs develop heart defects." Jessica says

"But we aren't thinking about the what if's. We are just focusing on now." Sam smiles giving her a kiss.

"One appointment at a time, Jessica!" Her doctor says

"She's been doing all of her reading, research, and started some super early shopping."

"Hey, I haven't had a baby in almost eighteen years. Of course this is exciting! In this situation I also need to be educated."

A few days later-

All that had been on Jessica's mind was Sean. Christmas was approaching and he'd be home any day now. She hasn't heard a word from Sean since thanksgiving. He changed his number and made sure Jessica had no way of reaching him. Same went for Olivia and Sam who were just as heart broken.

Jessica couldn't bare not spending time with him around the holidays or him not coming home. Everyday she beat herself up over everything that went down. One thing that she doesn't let happen is feel guilty about being pregnant. It wasn't good timing or planned, but it happened and she is okay with that. She's excited now. She has a baby girl on the way. Nothing could stand in her way any longer.

As much as Jessica wanted to see Sean and have him home, there was one condition that Jessica and Sam had to enforce. If he can't man up and apologize or brings in bad energy, he isn't aloud home. It was fair and square. Even Olivia understood.

"So what are you going to ask Santa for?" Sam Asia Logan

Jessica was in the same room cooking dinner, listening in.

"I told Santa. Legos! More movies like Shrek! Oh... and I really want a DS." He smiles

Behind Jessica she gave a big thumbs up. This was Jessica and Sam's way of double checking that they had all of his presents under control.

Then Olivia runs into the kitchen with her phone.

"Mom, look. Sean's home." She says handing her phone to Jessica.

It was a picture of Sean and him and Olivia's cousin, Aaron. Aaron was Danny's sisters son. The picture was of them at Danny's playing video games.

Jessica stared at the picture. She didn't want to give a reaction. "Anymore?"

Olivia swiped to see. There was one more. It was Sean holding a case of beer.

"Oh my god! Why does he look so big!" Jessica gasps

Sam and Logan take a look at the picture. "Kid must be working out." He says

"Does this mean we get to see Sean?" Logan asks

"Maybe." Jessica hesitates

Today was Jessica's last work day of the year before she was off until the end of the holidays.

She wasn't the busy so she ended up tidying up her office and caught up on some cases that she'd come across after the holidays. It was a busy schedule she'd have, but she was ready for this year to be over and to get through this pregnancy.

"Jessica, someone is here for you." Jessica's new assistant Sue says.

"Who?"

"I don't know, he didn't say." She says

"Just send him in." She says as she continues to clean

"Jessica?" The man says, closing the door behind him.

She only knew one person with that voice. Her heart sunk and she began to tremble.

She turns around and looks up. It was Danny.

"Hi, Danny. What are you doing here?" She says politely as possible.

"We need to talk. I'm sorry for coming in unannounced. But I remembered that your day before Christmas break was a cleaning day. Things didn't change, huh?" He chuckles

Jessica didn't laugh. She sat down in her desk and Danny followed.

"So what is it? Is Sean okay?" She says quickly

"He's great..."

Jessica sighs a bit but gives a smile

Danny loses his smile.

"He told me everything. But knowing you, I know that you'd never kick him out." Danny says

"Oh, I did. If you were there... and heard all of the terrible things he said about me, Olivia, my husband, and.... this baby." She chokes up

"George told me when he dropped off this bag of stuff." He says holding up the bags that Jessica filled up a few weeks ago.

Jessica clears her throat. "I'm not going to be mistreated. All I want is an apology and to have my boy back home! You don't know how selfish he made me feel."

"You're not selfish for having a baby. After I really came to terms with us being done, I rooted for you and Sam. But, I thought back to Olivia's delivery..." he sighs

"It's all going to be okay. This baby is just like any other baby." She insures

"Oh I know. And I'm happy for you. Really, I am. You and I grew a lot. I'm glad that we are happy... and I want us to be friends."

Jessica was surprised. Danny had really been coming around these last few months ever since Olivia was in the hospital.

"Of course. It's best for the kids." She smiles

"...but Sean." She adds

Danny becomes sad. "He's moving out of my house too."

"What happened between you too?"

"Nothing. We had a heart to heart. I tried to explain to him how wrong he was for what he did at thanksgiving... and that he should be so happy for you. He fought it and said nonsense. He just got back and he told me he's permanently moving to New York near school. And that he'll visit me when he can." Danny says

"What! Moving! He's only twenty! He's wasting all of his money? How did he get this money?"

"The money my father left him. His savings, and I helped him."

Jessica was so shocked but so angry. "Wait... you're letting him do this?" Her eyes go wide and stare into Danny's

"What do you want me to do? Lock my twenty year old up in my house? He's moving in with his girlfriend." Danny says

Jessica becomes so sad.... "does he want to see me? Be honest. You need to be."

Danny takes a minute then answers. "No."

"He wants nothing to do with me and my family?" She cries

"Jess..."

"Is that what he said? Honest!" She says raising her voice

Danny nods his head.

Jessica covers her face and begins to cry softly. She couldn't believe how far things had went and how bad it was. She felt guilty and hopeless. She just wanted to talk to him.

"Can I come over? Or can you convince him to come over? Anything Danny. I need to see my boy, apologize, and tell him to come back! Danny this is going to kill me! He's my boy!" She cries even harder

Danny stands up and goes to Jessica and gives her a hug.

"You need to relax for your baby...." he says

"But he's my baby too."

"Jessica, if you come over things will get bad..."

"God! What has gotten into him! I want to scream!" She cries

"I think he slowly wants nothing to do with me either. I said things were fine with us, but we got in a tiff. Well many of them. Maybe I deserve it. It's all about the divorce.... and me ripping into his ass about what went down with you too."

"No, Danny. He needs a parent. If he doesn't want me he needs you! I don't want what happened between us wreck your relationship."

"I don't want your relationship with him to be wrecked."

"I guess it's too late." She sighs with tears in her eyes.
