Explain

The next morning Sean stayed home from school for the day. Jessica got dressed and took Olivia to school. Jessica had a meeting with the principal early in the morning. She had been nervous about what he was going to say... Sean being expelled was her biggest fear at this point.

On the car ride over Olivia oddly sat in the back seat instead of in the front with Jessica. Jessica looked behind her and saw Olivia with her hand over her face, looking out the window.

When she pulled into the school they had a few minutes until the doors unlocked. Jessica cleared her throat then sighed looking back at Olivia. "Do you want to explain?" Jessica says softly

"...what is there to explain? How much more trouble can I get into?"

"It's not about being in trouble, it's about just talking."

"Is it about what Sean was told at work?"

Jessica nods

"He was acting wild and he tried to force himself on me. He thought it was funny. Now everyone is talking about me... there I talked to you."

"Liv..." Jessica says sadly

"It's my fault, trust me you drill it into my head everyday and make me feel like crap all the time. I'm human and I made a mistake, we all make mistakes. I mean look, you and Dad had Sean right out of high school."

"I don't try to make you feel like crap, Liv. I just don't think you-"

Olivia opens the car door then looks into Jessica's eyes. "I do understand..."

"I have to go." She gets out of the car then slams the door.

Jessica watches her run into the school then she throws her head back onto the head rest.

After a few seconds she looks up and sees the same woman from the hospital and a man walking out of the school. Jessica knew it was Nathan's parents and she tried to avoid them at all cost when she noticed that their car was parked next to hers. She ducked her head and put her sunglasses back on.

Once it was time to go in and they drove away Jessica went inside.

While Jessica waited in the office for the principal, all of the faculty was starting Jessica down, giving her the cold shoulder and rude looks.

Jessica sat in the car, uncomfortably, anxiously waiting for the principal to open his door for Jessica. She twiddled her thumbs for a few minutes until his door slowly swung open. His smile was refreshing to Jessica.

"Ms. Lange, please come in."

Jessica nods then walks in. Jessica was very familiar with Sean and Olivia's principal, he used to be Jessica and Danny's principal. He knew all of the Lange's and Houston's.

"How are you?" He says pulling the chair out for Jessica.

Jessica sighs with a chuckle "I've been better."

"I can see... Shall we cut to the chase?" He says

"We mine as well." She says nervously

"It's all okay... listen Jessica, I've known you and your family for years... you're all good people. That reflects towards your kids who are amazing. I've never had problems with them before. Though lately over the last year I've seen them in the hall and noticed a slight difference. It's normal considering the situation."

Each time someone referred to Jessica and Danny's divorce as "the situation", Jessica always hurt Jessica. She felt like the divorce effected the kids in such a horrible way and Jessica is just noticing now how badly they were effect due to actions.

"Now Sean, he's a great kid, athlete, and student. He has a lot going for him and I don't want to take that away from him. I'm not going to expel his for numerous reasons, one being he isn't the kind of kid to get into trouble. It's his senior year... so I'm just going to suspend him for the week. It's only fair..."

Jessica nods then exhales in relief.
"Thank you for going easy on him."

"Just make sure he keeps his hands to himself."

"Trust me, I will."

When Jessica got home Sean was waiting right by the door, nervous to hear about his punishment from the school. Jessica walks in and at first she was startled by the sight of his face, which was still unreal to her.

"Sean, you scared me!" Jessica jumps when Sean hid behind the door.

"I'm sorry, what did he say?"

"You're lucky, kid! You were so close to being expelled. Just a well suspension."

Sean let's out a deep breath and holds his chest. "Ugh! Thank god."

"It's not something to celebrate."

Jessica walks past Sean then grabs his keys that sat hung on the key hook.

"These will be gone for a few weeks." She says dangling them.

"Yes ma'am."

As Jessica walks into her office she stops for a moment then bangs on the wall. Sean quickly turns to Jessica and his face turns red.

"You are such a good kid! I just don't get it!"

"I don't either... I just got so angry. He was saying things about Liv that weren't true. I'd rather people say stuff about me and not her."

"His parents want me to pay his medical bills! And I don't know the extent of his injures!"

Sean clenches his teeth then shakes his head. "He didn't look good."

"Hopefully you have money saved up, kid! I can't afford some other kids medical bills while I have yours to pay for!" Jessica looks at Sean sternly then turns around, goes into her office, then slams her door.
