Don't Tell Your Mother
"Gosh it feels good to be home. I'm ready for school to be over already!" Sean walks in to the house after a long day of traveling. He sets his things at the bottom of the stairs and heads straight towards couch.
Jessica smiles at the thought of Sean being home and her whole family being together. Tomorrow, all of Jessica's family was coming over for a little dinner. Everyone always missed Sean when he was gone so it gave everyone to perfect opportunity to catch up.
"So Sean, going to see dad?" Olivia says in a snarky tone
Sean sighs and shakes his head. "No"
Sam and Jessica look at each other making a face. Sam immediately became curious. He prayed Danny didn't do anything to hurt Sean in anyway. Especially after the accident. He hoped that Danny didn't cut all communication, he didn't want that.
"How come, love?" Jessica asks out of curiosity
Obviously there was something Sean wanted to say, but he hesitated. "I thought you knew Olivia?"
"Knew what?" She raises her eyebrows and gives him a funny look
"Dad... he ummm left Minnesota for a while. He's out of state, working on himself."
"Working on himself?" Olivia says
"He told me that he's made some mistakes in the past and needs to 'find himself'."
"No one can help him." Olivia bluffs
"Hey, that's enough. I'm sorry Sean."
"I'm glad he's getting help." Sam says
"Me too... can we change the subject. Let's talk about this Logan boy. When can we meet him?"
Jessica turns to Sam and suddenly becomes sad. "You guys were right... it wasn't going to work out. They already placed him into a home."
"We're just going to pray that it works out for the little fella." Sam says wrapping his arms around Jessica.
"There are plenty of fish in the see, ma!" Sean says
"It was a one time thing. But, I'm glad that he found a house now before I became too attached." Jessica moves out of Sam's arms and goes to the kitchen.
"I'm going to start on dinner. Sean, what would you like?"
"Hmmm, your chicken pot pie sounds pretty amazing."
"Okay, then! Chicken pot pie it is!"

The next day-
"He's growing up so fast, Jessie. Look at how grown up he looks!" Dorthy says hugging Sean.
Jessica shakes her head and sighs. "It's crazy! I didn't believe anyone that said they grow up fast until now." Jessica chuckles
"Ha, thanks grandma! But you look great too. I miss seeing you."
"Aww, come with grandma, let's go catch up!" She says taking him into the other room.
"Why do I feel like we haven't had a family get together in so long!" Jane says helping Jessica unwrap some of the food.
"Life's been crazy with work, school, sam's accident. But it's all good now. Sean's home, for a bit, spring is coming!" Jessica says happily
"And wedding planning soon!"
"Gosh, it's still not on our list year." Jessica giggles
"Jesus Jessica! Come on! You too Sam, get a move on with this wedding planning!" Jane whines
Sam turns around and shrugs his shoulders. "Whenever she's ready..." he says kissing her cheek
"Ugh! You're wrapped around her finger." Ann jokes
"I mean hey, I am ready to marry this lady, but no rush." He says
"Haha, it's not that I'm not ready, it's that life is crazy!"

A few days later-
Now that Sean was home he had been spending a lot of time with his family. Jessica had to go to work and Olivia was not on spring break. So during the day it was just him and Sam. Sean was helping around the farm with Sam.
"Thanks for the help, bud. Still trying to work on this hand." Sam says holding his braced hand in the air.
"Ha, I like doing this. When I get my degree in business I should open up my own farm."
"What did you just say?"
"Oh yeah, I decided what I wanted to do with my life." Sean chuckles
Sam pats him on the back and smiles. "Business! That's great, Sean! Congrats..."
"I haven't really told anyone just because I was torn between so much... and if I change my mind I don't want to embarrass myself."
"I get what you're saying. Well, that's great. You'll make a great business man." Sam says as he goes to get a saddle from the shed.
"Hey, I can get that for you, Sam." He says faking it from him.
Sam nods and holds his bad hand to his chest. "Thanks." Sam walks over to the bench and continues to hold it. His injury was still fresh and it still gave him lots of trouble. But he tried his hardest to hide it from everyone.
"It's still giving you trouble?" Sean asks sitting next to him
Sam nods "Just a bit. Don't tell your mother."
"I won't... I'm good at keeping secrets." He says in a weird way
Sam gives him a strange look.
"Sam..."
"Yeah?" He says
"I know who did this to you."
Sam's heart begins to race and his face turns red. But he tried his hardest to play dumb.
"What?"
"My dad told me, everything. I figured you were keeping it from mom, because my dad told me about the conversation you had after the accident."
Sam felt a bit guilty about his secret, of course now that Sean knew. It made him feel a bit stupid and bad. Sean knows that Sam lied to Jessica, and Sam hated being thought of as a liar.
"Sean- there are many reasons I didn't say anything to your mother, I just don't want her to know. I didn't want you and Olivia to know either."
"I'm glad I do. Sam, thank you for knocking some sense into him. He's needed it. I think you going over there and just handing it all to him really worked. He called me that night,
Told me everything, and said how he just needed to go away... Sam, you saved my dad from going down a really bad path. I have nothing but respect for you. You're a great guy, even to the man who made my moms life a living hell and caused all kinds of shit..."
Sam puts his hand in Sean's shoulder and sighs. "I'm just looking out for you, Liv, and your dad. I didn't want to see him go down a bad path either. I hate lying to your mother, but I know that if she were to ever find out, she'd flip. It would make everyone's life a living hell. I really don't want her to know."
"And you have my word, Sam. She doesn't have to know, and she won't. I don't wish things weren't this way with him. We were all so close, you know? Our family... it's over. But of course I love having you in our family. I just can't really explain it."
"I just want what's best for you guys. Having a relationship with your father is always really important. I was very close with my father. And when he got sick, it all fell apart. In a way I know how you feel. You want to hold onto that relationship for as long as you can. With your father, Everyone makes mistakes that can sometimes jeopardize that relationship. I make mistakes, your father does, your mother, grandparents, yourself, everyone. But no matter what you love them and do everything you can for them. Your dad loves you guys a lot. I think this whole accident thing was just out of frustration and anger. I'm glad he took it out on me and anyone else."
Sean let's out a light chuckle then gives Sam a Hug. "I'm sorry he did that all to you... you're a good man and didn't deserve it."
"Hey, it's done and over with... all that matters is that everyone moves on and betters themselves from this."
In this moment Sean gained so much more respect and love for Sam. He always looked up to him as an amazing man, but now, he was even more than a great man. Everything he does and says is for Jessica and her children. He just wants everyone to be safe and happy, no matter what he has to go through for that to happen.
