Country Boy
Wednesday-
After the kids got back from school they did their homework and got ready to go over Sam's for dinner. They couldn't wait to see him and Jessica together again. It was such a relief to them that they a couple again.
"Are you guys ready?" Jessica says calling from the living room.
Sean and Olivia run down the stairs. "Yep!"
"Wow Mom, you look nice." Olivia says
Jessica dressed casual, but put on some makeup and did her hair.
"Thank you" She smiles
"I'll drive" Sean says picking up the keys

Sean pulls into Sam's long driveway going past the farm. When he reaches the house on the hill he parks and they all make their way up to his porch.
Before Jessica could knock Sam opened the door.
"Hey Sam!" Sean and Olivia say in sync.
"Hey guys! Come on in." He says cheerfully
Sean and Olivia walk in and look around. Since the last time they had been to his house he had rearranged things. While they gazed around Sam gave Jessica a hug and kiss.
"It smells good in here. What did you make?" Sean asks politely
"Chicken, mashed potatoes, just a simple dinner." Sam chuckles
"Thank you for having us." Jessica says to him
"Anytime. It's been a while since it's been just us four." He says
"Sam, your house looks so nice!" Olivia says
"Hey, Thanks Liv." He smiles
//-//
Until dinner was ready they all sat in the living room and chatted. The four of them were always able to make easy and fun conversation.
It was refreshing for Jessica to have Sam, Sean, Olivia, and herself all back together.
When dinner was ready and Sam had the three of them sit down while he served. Jessica wanted to help but Sam insisted that she just enjoyed herself.
"Mmmm, this looks great. Thanks Sam." Sean says
"No problem. You can all dig in." He says as he sits down.
"Wow! Sam!" Jessica giggles as she takes a bite.
"Mom really got a win, she got a guy that could cook better than her." Olivia says
They all laugh expect Jessica.
"Well I'm sorry, maybe Sam should teach YOU how to cook." Jessica jokes
"Maybe that would be best." Sean chuckles
Sam had to stop eating. He couldn't help but laugh more and more.
"I'll remember that you said that when you ask what's for dinner next time." Jessica says sternly
"Anyways, I'm glad you guys could all come." Sam says
"We missed you Sam!" Olivia whines
"Yeah, things weren't the same when you and Mom weren't together." Sean says
Jessica got quite and Sam looked over at her.
"Well, I love her. I couldn't let her go." He says
"When we are all together I really feel like a family. Almost like you're our dad." Olivia says
Sam clears his throat. "That's really nice, Liv. I appreciate that. But no one can replace your dad."
"He left, he doesn't matter. You're a better guy than him." Sean says
Jessica and Sam both got uncomfortable when the conversation escalated quickly.
Sam was flattered that Olivia and Sean felt that way. In no way was he trying to take place of Danny, their real father. He could see that there was tension between the kids and Danny. When Jessica told Sam about it, he didn't know it was this bad.
"Kids, Let's not do this now." Jessica says
"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, Sam."
"What? No... you're fine. I'm not uncomfortable. You know, I feel like a family too. You and Sean are like the kids I've never had."
Hearing that from Sam made Jessica's heart melt. Without looking at him she hid her face as a small grin appeared.
They continued to eat and share conversation. Once dinner was done they all sat around and laughed some more. It was a great night.
As they were getting ready to leave Olivia stopped the goodbyes.
"Mom, can Sam come to Grandma and Grandpa's anniversary party this weekend?" Olivia asks
This Saturday was Dorthy and Albert's fiftieth surprise anniversary party. It was being held at a barn like party hall. Jessica wanted Sam to go, but she had forgotten to ask.
Sam looks at Jessica and she smiles. "Sam, do you want to come? It's this Saturday at five." Jessica says
"I'd love to." He says
"Great!" Jessica smiles
"Then it's a date. I'll pick you guys up around four thirty?" He asks
"Mhm, sounds like a plan. Thank you for tonight." She says giving him a kiss.
"It will be a fun, country, party. You know how the Lange's are. They're just a bunch of country people like you!" Sean chuckles
"Why do you think I get along with your family so well? They are my kind of people." sam chuckles
"Okay, Farmer Sam. Mom and I are city girls." Olivia giggles
"I'm in between." Sean shrugs his shoulders and laughs some more.

Saturday-
It was the day of Dorthy and Albert's anniversary party. Jessica had been running back and forth to the place the party was being held to set up. Then, after setting up she came back home to get ready before Sam arrived.
Jessica got dressed up into a semi-formal dress that went to her knees. She let her hair down and applied her makeup.
While Jessica waited for Sam, Sean and Olivia came downstairs dressed up as well. Sean wore a dress shirt and slacks. Olivia wore a jean dress.
"You both look so nice." Jessica smiles
"Thanks, you too."
"When will Sam be here?" Sean asks
"Soon, he said about five minutes."
"Do you have their gift?" Olivia asks
"Oops, I almost forgot!"
Jessica runs into the kitchen to grab it. When she comes back Sam had arrived.
"Wow, you all look great." He says when he sees Jessica.
"You don't look too bad yourself." She grins
Sam wore a red dress shirt and slacks.
"You guys ready?" He asks
"Yep!"
They all hop into Sam's truck and head to the party.
When they get there it was slowly getting dark out. The barn looked so beautiful. It was lit up with party lights that went across the room. There were tables, food, and pictures of Dorthy and Albert everywhere. All of the family was there waiting for Dorthy and Albert's arrival.
The barn that they were having the party was were Dorthy and Albert got engaged and a month later, married.
They both had no idea, so her family was very excited to surprise them.
Jessica and Sam helped Jessica and her siblings finish setting up. Sean and Olivia broke away to be with their cousins.
"I can't wait. Mom and Dad are going to be so happy." Ann says
"This was a great idea doing it here." George adds
"I hope Mom doesn't cry!" Jane giggles
"They deserve this..." Jessica says
Around six, Jessica's niece Heather was going to drive them up to the barn. When they saw her car pulling in they ran outside to stand in front of the barn with a giant '50' light.
Dorthy and Albert had blindfolds on, which wasn't part of the plan but it made everyone laugh.
Heather guided her grandparents out of the car and put them right in front of it. Everyone was silent.
She backs away to go with the crowd.
"Heather, what's going on? It's cold." Dorthy says
"Take them off!" Heather yells
Dorthy and Albert both pull down the blind folds and their eyes light up.
"Happy Anniversary!" Everyone yells and cheers
Dorthy and Albert were shocked. Dorthy of course cried and Albert got a little teary eyed.
"Oh my god!" Dorthy says
"D, we have an awesome family!" Albert says giving her a hug.
Family and friends all surround them and give them hugs.
"Thank you all so much!" They cry

Everyone was having a great time, partying, laughing, dancing, and singing. Dorthy and Albert were so happy to be around all of their family and friends on this special day. They felt so loved and it really made them happy being in the same room celebrating a big milestone.
As everyone sat down to eat Albert stood up and made a toast.
"I want to make a toast to my wonderful wife and best friend of fifty years. It's crazy to think that fifty years ago I got down on one knee in this exact room. Then, a month later I couldn't wait to marry so I found a priest, called a few friends and family, some who are here, and I married you in this room. Dorthy, though we have known each other for more than fifty years, I want to thank you for the best years of my life. I wouldn't have wanted to spend it with anyone else. You gave me so much. You gave me a family, who put this all together for us. Without you I wouldn't have four wonderful, smart, and loving children. As well as eight amazing grandkids. You're a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. So, Happy Anniversary to my soul mate." Albert raises his glass and everyone else follows.
Dorthy stands up and kisses Albert as tears rush down her face. As they kiss everyone claps and cheers.
Sam turns to Jessica who was sniffling.
"Are you okay?" He asks
"I just love them... they're so happy." She smiles
Sam gives Jessica a hug. "Awww, Jessie." He chuckles

As the night was slowly coming to an end, everyone was on the dance floor dancing. Jessica and Sam danced to numerous songs together.
"Sean was right, the Lange's have awesome country parties. These are my favorite kind of parties." Sam says as he spins Jessica.
"Don't get yourself too excited, cowboy." Jessica giggles
Then, Sam's favorite country song comes on. It was by Vince Gill, his favorite singer. The song was Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away.
We've been up
All night long
Trying to solve a problem
Hell it's almost dawn
Ain't no time for sleepin'
If our love is wearin' thin
'Cause I ain't givin' up
And you ain't givin' in
"Jess, this is my favorite song!" Sam says as he takes Jessica's hands and dances all around.
Jessica starts to giggles as he starts to sing his favorite part.
"Don't let our love start slippin'
Love start slippin' away
'Cause the life we've been livin'
Gets harder everyday
Don't let our love start slippin'
Love start slippin' away" he sings loudly as he spins Jessica around and sways back and forth quickly. It was a bit of a fast pace song.
"Sam!" Jessica says with embarrassment as he sings louder and louder.
.....
"So open up your heart
Baby we can work it out
'Cause we've got the kind of love
People dream about" He sings in a funny singing voice, totally ignoring Jessica as he dances with her.
Jessica gives up and let's him enjoy himself.
"Baby, this is my jam." He yells
"I can see that!"Jessica giggles as he dances faster and faster.
"I hope I'm not embarrassing you too much."He says
Jessica rolls her eyes
"Just a little."
"Good!"
Ann and her husband dance near Jessica and Sam. They couldn't help but laugh at Sam as well.
"It looks like you have a performer." Ann chuckles
"I-" Right as Jessica went to finish her sentence Sam breaks away from her and runs up to the DJ. The song gets louder and Jessica knew he was up to something. Everyone's eyes were on him as he held the microphone in his hand and started to sing.
Everyone made a pathway for him as he walked to Jessica who's face was bright red. She was so embarrassed but so in love with his goofiness.
"This for you, Jessie!" He says during the instrumental. He points to her and moves his hips in a funny way to go along with the music.
Jessica covers her face and shakes her head. Everyone claps along as he sings. They found it so cute. As he sang, they sang too.
"Don't let our love start slippin'
Love start slippin' away
'Cause the life we've been livin'
Gets harder everyday
Don't let our love start slippin'
Love start slippin' away
It's past the point of right or wrong
Let's find a way to just hold on" he sings
"Sam!" Jessica giggles as he wraps his arm around her torso and dips her.
"I told you I loved this song." He says into the microphone.
Jessica takes the microphone from him and turns it off. The song was still playing and he was still dancing. Jessica drops the microphone. With both hands she cups his cheeks and kisses him passionately.
"I love you! My country boy." She giggles
