A week later//
Sean and Olivia were staying in Stillwater for an extra few weeks, so it was just Jessica. She felt lonely being home alone during the week. She was so used to coming home to a full house, usually when the kids were gone she'd have Danny, but now it was just her. Especially on the weekends Jessica felt lost.
Jessica talked to Sam everyday. He called her a few times but it was mostly text. When they talked they got to know each other a lot more. It made the both of them happy everything they got a call or text from each other. Jessica and Sam became a lot closer and built a strong friendship in only a short amount of time.
She spent her Saturday cleaning every inch of the house from the moment she got up. After a few hours it wasn't even twelve and she was finished. She decided to take a break and watch tv. That just made her even more bored. Jessica had an idea in her head but was super afraid to do it.
She tossed her phone from one hand into the other then took a bold move. She decided to call Sam.
The phone rang longer then it usually did which made her think he was busy. Right as she was about to hang up Sam answered.
"Hello?" He says withe exhaustion
"Sam, hi!"
"Jessica, happy Saturday."
"Thanks, you too."
"What's up?"
"Nothing!" Jessica started to stutter, she didn't really know what she was getting out of the phone call
"You sound a bit bored..." He says
"Very!!"
"Ha, I'm just working. Would you like to maybe get together tonight?"
"I'd love too. How long are you working for?" Jessica says with excitement
"Five. Maybe if you give me your address I can get you around seven?"
"Okay!"
"Awesome! Hey, I'm super busy, I'm missing have if my staff so I have to go. But I'll call you when I get off of work."
"Sounds good!"
**
As a few hours passed Jessica began pacing around the house. She then got another idea. Immediately Jessica ran up to her room. She pulled or a short sleeve flannel, jeans, and her old working boots. Jessica changed her clothes and put on a small amount of makeup.
Jessica drove up to the farm and parked her car. She walked around hoping to see Sam somewhere. Luckily he walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Hey! What are you doing here?" He says. He looks her up and down and sees she wearing work clothes.
"Funny story actually. I'm beyond bored and figured maybe I could come help."
"Really? Haha!"
"I don't want to be annoying but I'm soooo bored, Sam." She whines
"I don't think you're bored. I think you just couldn't wait to see me." He says in a joking way.
Jessica shrugs her shoulders then blushes.
"Well, if you want to help I have lots that needs to be done!"
"Great!" She chuckles
"But wait." sam stops
"Hmm?"
"Our date!"
"We can still go!" Jessica chuckles
"I wanted to pick you up..."
"You still can. I'll drive home."
"Ahh, that's right! Okay, let's get to work then!"
**
Jessica followed Sam around helping him with anything he needed. Jessica and Sam made fun out of the work around the farm laughing and playing around. Jessica mostly helped deliver things into the small little shops at the farm and Sam took her to the Apple trees to pick apples for the shops.
He drove a gator out to the Apple field and they stopped to admired the view. The Apple trees sat on top of a hill that overlooked the whole farm.
"You have a pretty exciting day." Jessica says to Sam.
"It usually isn't exciting. But since you're here it's extra fun."
"I hope I wasn't a burden today. When the kids are gone I'm lost."
"No, you weren't. I was kinda hoping I'd see you today at the shops."
Jessica grins
"I always have lots of fun talking with you."
"Aww, thanks." She smiles
Sam picks up his hand and checks his watch.
"Well, it's five! You're off work for the day." He chuckles
"So you're coming at seven?"
"Yep, be ready. I'm so excited!"
"Me too!"
**
7:00 pm-
Jessica changed into a semi formal outfit for dinner. She wore a floral summer dress with sandals. She put her hair up into a bun as well.
Exactly at seven the doorbell rang. Jessica ran down the stairs and did one last check before she opened the door.
Sam stood at the door with more sunflowers. His hair was slicked back and Jessica smiled when he saw him.
"More sunflowers! Thank you!" Jessica says happily
"... please, come in!" Jessica says opening the door a bit more.
"You're house is really nice." He nods
"Thanks, can you tell I spent all morning cleaning?"
"Ha, it looks great! I hope you don't mind but they pushed back our reservations. Is it okay if we hang out here for a bit?"
"No, that's just fine! Would you like something to drink? I have water, pop, and wi-"
"Stop right there... wine sounds perfect." He says
"Great, I'll pour us some glasses."
///
Jessica and Sam sit in the kitchen with their glasses, talking.
"So how long are Sean and Olivia gone for?"
"Another two weeks!"
"Oh wow! They won't be back until July."
"I know, right. At least they are getting in some time with their grandparents." Jessica says
"Well, if you need any company you know where I am."
"Ha, thanks. I just feel so lost. It's so empty without them. I'll be lost for sure when they are gone at college."
"Luckily you have a while."
**
Around seven thirty Sam drove Jessica up to the restaurant. The restaurant overlooked a beautiful lake. They were able to sit outside and watch the sun go down. Once it did lanterns and lights surrounds the patio.
Throughout the night Jessica and Sam were very let loose. They just talked and enjoyed themselves.
After dinner someone that works at the restaurant came out onto the patio and played acoustics.
"This restaurant is super nice." Jessica says looking around
"I've never been here before. I was really hoping that you'd like it. I wanted to take you somewhere really nice."
"I appreciate that. To be honest, it's been a very long time since someone's taken me out to a nice dinner like this."
"If we're being honest here, I mine as well say that I feel like we've clicked really easily. I mean I'm not nervous around you and i feel like you and I can both me ourselves. I find that pretty cool."
"We have clicked, I have to agree." She smiles
"I just want to hopefully see each other more and see where it takes us."
Jessica nods then gives Sam a soft smile. He then looks behind him and sees a variety of couples slow dancing to the acoustic music that the guitarist was playing.
"Is it too soon to ask you to dance with me?" Sam says
Jessica shakes her head. Sam gets up and holds his hand out. Jessica reaches for it and he guides her to a small open section where they could dance.
The guitarist then began singing the song Hey There Delilah on his own, without background music.
As Sam and Jessica swayed back and fourth she closed her eyes and listened to the music, taking in the wonderful moment.
"This is my favorite song, and I think I like this guy signing it rather than the original singers." Jessica chuckles
"Yeah, he's really good." Sam says
"... Jess, thanks for an amazing night." Sam says
"Thank you..." She says staring into his eyes.

Two weeks later//
Jessica was sitting in her office looking out the window, waiting for Sean and Olivia to pull in. Once she sees Sean's car she doesn't even care to slide on a pair of shoes. She dashes out of the house and runs to them.
"My babies!" She exclaims, hugging Sean and Olivia.
"Mom!" Olivia says
"Three weeks is too long!" Jessica pouts
"Aww, well we're back now." Sean chuckles pulling out the luggage from the trunk.
Jessica taps his hand lightly motioning him to set it down.
"Don't worry about that. Just come inside so the three of us can catch up. I made you're favorite, tacos!" Jessica says happily. She hugs and kisses Sean and Olivia continuously until they break away from her and laugh.
"You missed us too much!" Olivia laughs
**
After the kids finish dinner and the three of them catch up they go upstairs to unpack.
An hour later they both run down with nervous looks on their faces.
Jessica was doing the dishes. When she hears them walking into the kitchen she turns around and smiles.
"Hey you two! What if we have a movie night or something?" She says
"Hey Mom... we actually have a question." Sean says softly
"Is everything okay? You two seem nervous?"
"Yeah, we're fine... it's just... well heather and Joshua are having another pool party at Aunt Ann's. We were wondering if we could go." Olivia says
"Sure! When?"
"That's the thing, it's tonight."
"Oh." Jessica says sadly
"If you don't want us to go we won't... it's just lots of our friends and Layla will be there. We haven't seen anyone since we've been at Grandma and grandpa Houston's."
Jessica wanted to say no, but the kids missed their friends and hadn't seen them almost all summer. Jessica didn't want to stop them from having fun.
"Well we can do movie night another night then." She says softly
Both kids run up and give her a hug. "For sure! Thanks Mom!"
"You mine as well sleep over... it will be late once the parties over." She sighs
"Okay! Thanks again Mom. And we'll be good since aunt Ann and uncle Jake will be there. We'll be back around noon then!" Sean says
"Good! Behave!"
**
Later that night Jessica was all alone in the house watching The Notebook. As tears rolled down her face she was texting back and forth with Sam. Over the last few weeks they had been seeing each other very often. Jessica and Sam both grew a strong liking for each other and were happy together. But they kept their liking for each other to themselves and just enjoyed each others company.
...
Towards the end of the movie Jessica got a knock on the door. She wrapped herself in a blanket and opened the door. She was shocked to see Sam at the door with rental movies, popcorn, and beer.
"Surprise!" He chuckles
"Sam, haha!"
She let's him in and he sets down his things. "I thought since you were alone having a movie night I could join."
Jessica gives him a long hug and smiles. "My kids left me!"
"Are you crying?" He says pulling her away and looking into her eyes.
"I was watching the notebook!" She giggles wiping her tears
"Ahhh... well I brought some funny movies."
"Great!"
//
Sam and Jessica put in Tommy Boy and have popcorn and beer.
12//
Once the movie was over Jessica had fallen asleep in Sam's arms. Once he noticed that Jessica was asleep he slowly got up and put a blanket on her. But that woke her up.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He whispers
"Oh no, it's okay. I'm glad you did."
"Well, I think I'm going to head out and let you sleep. The movies over." He says
Jessica looks at sam "Would you mind staying with me tonight?" She whispers
"You wouldn't mind? Aren't the kids coming home?"
"They are staying at my sisters. It's getting late and you're probably tired."
Sam sits back down on the couch and Jessica cuddles up next to him. "Thanks." He smiles
Jessica then sits up and looks into Sam's eyes for a few moments.
"Sam?" She says softly
"Jessica?"
"What are we?"
In that moment Sam's heart began to race. Jessica became anxious, waiting for an answer. Over the last few weeks they had become so close. Jessica didn't know what they were.
"Well... what do you want us to be?" He smiles
She shrugs her shoulders and chuckles
"I really like you, Jess."
"And I like you too."
"Gosh, I don't want to sound like a high school boy!"
"What do you mean?"
"What if we possibly started a relationship? I really enjoy my time with you and just being with you. You're a great woman, jess."
Jessica's heart raced and she was quite for a moment. She wanted to scream yes, but she grinned.
"I'd really like to start a relationship."
**
Hey everyone! I'm really happy that I got to update this!! A few things- I'm really bad at writing the beginning of relationships. And I hope this isn't too rushed but I've had lots of ideas for this story.
A little fact is that near were I live there is a place called White House fruit farms. They have all kinds of activities, seasonal stuff, and a small market. So that's kinda how I came up with Sam's job because my mom is really good friends with the owner of White House. So that's the inspiration behind his Character. & of course because sam had always given me that country man vibe! Haha!
Hope you are all enjoying this :)
