A Day Without Logan
Tuesday-
After Sean left, their whole family dynamic was out of wack. Logan was devastated, Olivia was sorta lonely, and Jessica and Sam just missed him dearly like everyone else. Of course it was sad with him leaving, but Jessica and Sam understood. life had to go on and it did.
Olivia started senior year which was heavily emotional for Jessica. Now, Logan would be starting kindergarten. Jessica, Sam, and social services are exactly sure what type of schooling Logan had when he was with his birth parents. After speaking for the school supervisor, Sam and Jessica felt like it was a good choice to make.
It was nerve wracking to say the least. They had no idea how he'd act or be without his family. They hoped that this would break him out of his shell and help with his anxiety. Thankfully, for now, it would be half a day. It would be a good start for Logan.
"Okay, Logan! Let mama see your cute outfit!" Jessica smiles as Sam walks out of the bathroom with Logan. Sam did his hair and dressed him. Jessica and Sam were really trying to make this positive for him.
"Oh wow! What handsome boy!" Jessica says giving him endless kisses
"Am I like Sean now?" He smiles
"Yes! You will both me in school!" Sam chuckles
"Oh! So I see him!" Logan perks up
Jessica sighs "no sweetie. But he will call us tonight."
"Awww darn!" He pouts

The ride over made Jessica very anxious. She didn't know if Logan would cry, be sent home, or super excited and happy. Over the summer, Jessica didn't work as much, so she spent most of her time with Logan and was never away from him for long. Same with Sam. Sam spent 24/7 with him on the farm. The couple was scared for what was about to happen as they pull into the drop off zone.
"Whoa, is this it?" Logan asks as he presses his face up against the car window
"Mhm! This is it, Hilltop. Sean and Olivia went here." Jessica smiles, turning to Logan who was mesmerized.
"Can we go in? Can we go in?" He asks unbuckling himself.
"Yes, baby!" Jessica smiles. This was so refreshing for her. No tears, just pure happiness.
"Logan, you know mommy and I can't stay with you, right?" Sam asks
Jessica's heart starts to race.
He nods "Yes, I know... my old mama and dads never did." He says softly
It was very rare for Logan to bring up his birth parents. Every time they did he referred to them as his 'old' parents which was a little unsettling for Jessica.... especially when referring to his mother, who was a wonderful woman.
They get Logan out of the car. He puts on his backpack and proudly walks up the sidewalk. All of the parents were there with their children. Some cried, some didn't. There were lines in front of the teachers waiting for their new students, as well as the principal. Immediately, he recognized Jessica.
"Mrs. Huston, how wonderful to see you!" The principal says. When Danny and Jessica were married and the kids went to hilltop, they were all very close. He was an old family friend.
"Haha, principal Geller. It's actually Mrs. Shepard. This is my husband Sam and our little guy Logan." Jessica says wrapping one arm around Sam and the other on Logan's shoulder.
"My apologizes. It's great to meet you. I've heard lots about this little guy!
Hey Logan! I'm Mr. Geller!" He says
"Hi! When can I go?" He asks
"Logan.... honey. Don't you wanna say goodbye?" Jessica asks
"Sorry, bye mommy! Bye daddy!" He says giving them a hug
"What teacher does he have?"
"Miss. Martin." Sam says
"Ahh, just like Liv and Sean!
Logan, her line is right over there by the big tree! She's wearing a purple top!" He says
"Can I go? Can I go?" He asks again
Jessica and Sam bend down and give him the biggest hugs and kisses
"We love you... be good, okay? And Daddy will be here to pick you up at three!" Jessica smiles
"Have fun, champ!" Sam chuckles
Logan smiles then runs off.
Jessica holds her chest and sighs. "Please keep an eye out on him.... he's-"
"Been through a lot... I understand. I read his file. His teacher is aware as well as the rest of our staff. You and Sam will be the first to be called if anything happens." He reassures the worrisome parents
"Thank you..." Sam says
"Now y'all go have a great day."

After dropping off Logan, Jessica and Sam drove back home. Jessica needed to head back into work. She had been slacking a lot and would be spending a lot more time at the office. When she got to work she kept checking her phone to make sure the school didn't call. Her stomach was in knots she was so scared. Sam was too. It was nerve wracking thinking that Logan could break. He had never gone this long without Sam.

3-
Sam raced over to the school and made sure he was the first one outside of the school to pick up Logan. Surely enough Logan was the first one out of the building.
He ran out with all types of crafts, a little DIY hat with his name, and most importantly, the biggest smile. Sam kneeled down with his arms wide open. He missed his little buddy so badly. He had never been this long without him.
"Daddy!" He smiles
"Hey! How'd it go?"
"THE BEST DAY EVER!" He screams
Sam chuckles "Really? Without daddy?" Sam pouts
"Well daddy, you're too old for school!"
"I bet you have lots to tell me!" Sam says
"I do! I do!" He jumps
"Let's go get some ice cream and you can tell me all about it." Sam says picking him up to carry him to the truck.

At dinner-
"Then, we made all kinds of hats! See my hat Olivia?" Logan asks pointing to his head.
Olivia was hunched over at the dinner table, playing with her food with a fork. She looks up quickly then nods.
"Yeah" She says softly
Jessica and Sam noticed Olivia was off. But they didn't put too much thought into it.
They were just so happy that Logan had a great day. They were surprised. He was so attached to Jessica and Sam all summer, with his anxiety they thought he wouldn't have a good day. Surely enough he did.
"Did you like your teacher and classmates?" Jessica asks
"Yes! I loved them! They knew you Olivia!"
"Mhm... can I be excused?" She asks aggressively standing up and grabbing her plate
"You're done? You barely touched your plate." Jessica asks
"I'm not hungry."
"You aren't? You had a long practice today." Sam says
"I didn't go. Can I just be excused? I have homework, I'm tired." She snaps
Jessica sighs "Of course, honey."
When Olivia leaves, Logan goes on and on about his day putting a smile on Jessica and Sam's face.

After dinner Logan went upstairs to play while Sam and Jessica had their alone time cleaning up the kitchen.
"I'm really glad today went well.... maybe he doesn't need to see that doctor next week after all." Jessica says as she rinses the dishes
Sam shakes his head. "He will need to see the doctor. Jess, the kid refuses to sleep alone... and, I think he has lots of trauma that he needs to overcome, along with anxiety." Sam says
Jessica sighs "Yes, I know. Maybe this little step of his is just exciting me a lot." Jessica says
"I know, baby..."
"How was your day, though? Did you get lots of work done for fall sales?" Jessica asks
Sam shrugs his shoulders then sighs "no, nothing."
"What?" Jessica says. Sam was always a hard worker, he never slacked.
"Today was hard, babe. My buddy was gone all day and I was alone. He hasn't left my side all summer...."
Jessica saw how sad Sam truly was. She came up behind him and gave him a big kiss.
"Aww, baby...." She pouts
"It will be fine. As long as I want to homeschool him so I can see him all day-"
"You know that's wrong because he needs a good education that's right down the street, AND he needs to socialize."
"Yes... I know. But babe, he's my first child. Of course I consider Sean and Liv mine too, but Logan, he's mine mine. He's ours. He's my son. He calls me dad. I missed five years of his life, Jess. I'm just so attached to him. I want to spend all the time I can with him before he grows up. It's not like we adopted a baby who I would have all of his childhood to spend time with him.... I don't know how to explain it." Sam sighs, sitting down.
It broke Jessica's heart. She knew where Sam was coming from and felt terrible.
"Sam... I wish that I could have given you a baby too. It's hard for me to see you so sad. I know how important being a father is to you."
"No, it's not that, Jess. What we have is perfect. Logan is perfect. I wouldn't want it any other way. I just didn't think it would be this hard being away from him. Before you know it he'll be a teenager who's never home!"
Jessica giggles "But you have lots of time. I promise." She says leaning over and giving him a long passionate kiss.
"Speaking of teenagers.... Olivia." Jessica adds
"Ahhh, Yeah... She seems off. Maybe I should go talk to her?"
"Yeah, I'll finish up here."

Jessica walked up the stairs to Olivia's room. She slowly opened the door and it was dark.
"Livy?" Jessica says turning on her lamp.
When she turns on the lamp she sees tissues everywhere. Ripped up pictures piled up in the trash. Her room was a mess.
Olivia quickly hides herself under the covers and huffs.
"Go away." She snaps
"Olivia Lynn. What's going on in here?" Jessica says trying to clean up.
"Nothing, go!" She yells
Jessica walks over to her bed and pulls to covers away. Her face was red and swollen from tears.
"Olivia, what's going on?" Jessica says sitting on the bed.
"Nothing!"
"I don't buy it. Did something happen?"
"Well obviously something happened!"
Jessica rolls her eyes then tries to keep her composure.
"If you talk to me maybe I can help." Jessica says rubbing her back
Olivia sits up and rubs her eyes. "Cody and I broke up, okay? Is that enough to satisfy you?"
"Hey, I'm your mom, it's my job to make sure everything is okay. And no that doesn't satisfy me! It breaks my heart, sweetie. I'm so sorry to hear this." Jessica says trying to give her a hug
Olivia moves away from her mother and gets out of bed.
"I'm done talking about it! Just go!" She says running to the bathroom and slamming the door.
Jessica rubs her temples and sighs... no one ever prepared her for how to handle something like this. Olivia was hurting, badly.
