An Unlikely Protector {4}

The purple mist rushed to the center of the temple the purple of the lights all shifted to orange. Once all the dark energy condensed itself to the main room in the temple the dragon stirred. The dragon saw the mist and looked to the injured boy. The mist was slowly corrupting the boy. The beast pushed the mist from the boy and hid him behind her wings to shelter him.

The Vengestone chain's stopped the creature from using the majority it's powers. The dragon forcibly absorbed most of the mist. Then it felt the presence of a trusted one. It turned towards the hall and sensed fear as well as two corrupted souls. The dragons eyes started glowing their natural purple. It set the boy down and drew the dark energy from him.

The dragon stretched out then let out a defining roar that shook the whole temple. Jahan woke with a start. Cole stopped in his tracks. The two brothers collapsed. The Ninja outside jumped away from the temple as the earth wall was shattered outwards straight toward them.

The dragon's roar drained the temple as well as the cavern outside of the residual dark energy. Cole shook his head and took off running again the brothers a ways behind now. For some reason he knew exactly where to go.

The ninja all got up with a groan. Everyone gave their own form of owes as they got up. "Everyone okay?" Lloyd ask seaming to be the least effected of those outside.

"As okay as we can be after what ever that was," Nya responded ever so chipper.

"Let's go get Cole back," Lloyd rushed into the temple weaving through the halls effortlessly. He was absolutely befuddled as to how he knew exactly where to go but he did. After about a minute they all made it to the main temple room.

The dragon had its teeth dug into the two brothers who were covered in the purple mist. Of course, it all made sense. "The dragon Is the one that corrupted them," Lloyd said angrily. "Somethings never change."

Lloyd summoned pure energy and threw it at the dragon. "Lloyd wait!" Zane shouted sensing the dark energy leaving the boys. The energy hit the dragon's side it released it's grip on the boys and let out a pained roar. The purple glow of the dragon darkened as the dragon turned to the green ninja.

It let out a blood curdling growl as the dark energy flowed with the beast's breath. It raised it's head back like a cobra poised to strike. Lloyd and the Ninja with him summoned their powers ready to fight. It lunged but stopped as the Master of Earth threw himself between the dragon and his team. Lloyd was the only one that didn't stop his power flow.

"Stop they don't understand," Cole said to the beast pleadingly.

"Cole get out of the way!" Lloyd shouted his gaze not leaving the dragon.

Cole turned his back to the dragon. The look on his face sent chills down all of their spines. He glared at the Green ninja with such rage as he said "No," in the most detached voice all of them had ever heard.

The moment Cole came to the main room he was frozen with wonder as he starred up at the dragon. Even the deep scars that scattered over her scales looked beautiful to him. He was snapped out of his trance as the two brothers that, if he was being honest, he completely forgot about, both hit him full force sending him to the floor. He quickly got to his feet ready to fight back. But the dragon bit down on the brothers arms.

If it were any other creature he would have believed that it was trying to kill them. But he knew it was draining them of the dark energy they had absorbed. He watched as the energy left them like the mist had left the crystals. He watched in wonder as the brothers slowly returned to normal.

Cole snapped his head to the entrance as he saw a green glow. "Lloyd wait!" Zane shouted as he reached out to stop their leader all but to late. Lloyd threw his attack stopping the process and burning the dragon. The dragons roar of pain stung him to the core. Cole rushed forward to put himself between the dragon and his team. The dragon lunged just after Cole did. The dragon stopped instantly and pulled back.

"Stop they don't understand," Cole's plea sounded so pained the dragon's glow turned back to the gentle glow it was before. When he met the dragons gaze guilt stung through him. The dragon looked so remorseful and scared. Scared not of the green ninja but of the fact she almost hurt him. Cole was about to console the beast when Lloyd cut in.

"Cole get out of the way!" Lloyd's voice was shrill with pure hatred.

Then Cole remembered what he heard once he set foot on the steps of the temple. Only those of my blood- He turned to his friends and glared at Lloyd with animosity. Who ever locked the dragon in here was related to Lloyd. "No."

"Lloyd look," Zane pointed to the side drawing The Green Ninja's attention from the dragon to the brothers. "They're normal. The dragon was draining the darkness from them."

Lloyd glared at the dragon. It wasn't even looking at him... it was looking at Cole. Lloyd then met Cole's gaze. Lloyd got the message the moment their eyes met. His brother would never forgive him if he hurt her. She had only defended herself after his own attack. Lloyd stopped the power flow and looked to the brothers.

The majority of the team went to check on the three brothers while Zane ans Jay followed Cole to the dragons side. "So this is the creature you've been dreaming about," Zane said as he reached his hand toward the dragon cautiously. The dragon nuzzled into Zane's hand gently.

"I-uh," Cole scrambled to find his words. He let out a light sigh then nodded.

"Wait you knew he was dreaming about this dragon!?" Jay questioned as loud as usual.

"Not initially. But once I laid eyes on her I knew," Zane gently stroked the dragon's muzzle.

"Are those chains?" Jay asked as he looked the dragon over.

Cole and Zane looked her over and noticed the Vengestone chains that wrapped around her center and her legs. Cole clenched his fists and looked over to Lloyd who was talking to Jahan. "They're made of Vengestone," Cole said bitterly.

"Maybe Lloyd could get them off," Jay suggested as he pat her muzzle.

"What?" Cole asked harsher than he meant to.

"I mean he opened the door didn't he?" Jay asked without thought. The Dragon nuzzled him gently.

Cole paused for a moment. "Lloyd. Come here for a second."

Lloyd said something to Kai and Nya then walked over slowly. "Cole I-"

Cole turned to the dragon not even bothering to look at Lloyd. "See if you can get those chains off."

Zane and Jay shared a look then walked over to them. Lloyd took a cautious step forward. The dragon lowered her head timidly and let out a whimpering sound. Cole walked over and stroked her side gently. "We're going to see if he can get the chains off, okay. I'll be right here."

The dragon glanced at Lloyd, then lay her head next to Cole. He sat down and pat her gently. "Go on Lloyd."

Lloyd walked to the dragon not taking his eyes off her for a second. The dragon however only glanced at Lloyd for a few moments before looking back to Cole. Lloyd reached out to a chain warped around her leg. As he touched the chain it untangled itself from the dragon. She lifted her head as if came off.

"I was right!" Jay shouted triumphantly. He turned to Cole with a smug look on his face. "I told you."

"Oh zip it zap trap," Cole said as he crossed his arms.

The dragon nudged Cole and chuffed.

"Okay okay, you were right Jay," Cole said stiffly.

"I like her. Can we keep her?" Jay asked cheerfully.

"You're asking the wrong question Jay," Zane said as he approached the dragon. "Would you like to stay with us?"

The dragon looked to Lloyd, who had one more chain to go, then tilted her head.

"It's not like we've never had dragons before." Kai walked over with Nya at his side.

Lloyd touched the last chain. "We'll see."

The dragon stood then collapsed. Before any of them could see if she was alright she was engulfed in a purple mist. When the mist started to receded and they didn't see a dragon they were concerned. Eventually the mist shrunk down to the size of a person then dissipated, to reveal a girl. At that time they did't know it at the time but that young girl's name was Y/N.
