Chapter Three
Malcolm and I walked to their new house catching up on events. I told him about college and he told me about the band and their newest albums. It felt so good to be with my friend again. I hoped I'd get to celebrate the holidays with them.
It was dark when we finally reached the house. This one was bigger than the last. They probably got more money and bought something with more room. Malcolm stopped me before we went in. "Wait here. I'll tell them inside, then you can come in." He went inside leaving the door open behind him.
Malcolm stepped into the living room to get the crowd's attention. "Lads, you'll never believe who's at the door."
"Is it my hour late pizza I ordered?" Phil asked sitting on a chair. "I've been waitin' forever."
"No, better." Malcolm smiled as everyone waited for the announcement. "Hannah's back."
I hid behind a nearby tree waiting for Malcolm to come get me. Running footsteps emitted from the house and someone jumped outside. I smiled as I watched Angus look around the driveway. Having some fun, I crept up behind him and tickled his neck while his back was turned. He spun around and smiled. Before I knew it I was trapped in his arms again. "You sneaky little bugger," he laughed. We let go and he studied me. "Cute pajamas."
"Thanks," I giggled in return.
"Where have you been? I waited five years after waking up alone."
"I was alone too. I've been in 2018 waiting to come back."
"It's only been two years for you?" I thought about it.
"I guess so." He stared at me and smiled.
"You're still so young." He leaned in closing his eyes, then stopped as if he remembered something. "God I missed you." He pulled me in for another hug.
"I missed you more."
"No, 'cause I missed you most."
"Nuh-uh."
"Yes, it's been five years for me, only two for you!"
"Hey guys! In or out, we're closing the door, it's letting all the heat in!" Malcolm yelled in the doorway.
"Come on," Angus said keeping an arm around my shoulder and taking me inside. We went to the living room where a good amount of people were. Some new faces amongst the old, two being women. One woman with blonde hair turned to look at us and Angus coincidentally dropped his arm. "Guys, this is Hannah for those who don't know. She just came back from her time again and, yeah. Uh, how long will you be staying this time? Or do you know?"
"No clue," I smiled. He smiled back.
"Okay! Well this is our house, for now anyway. Soon though we'll get our own places." Phil stood up from his chair and came over to hug me.
"Good to see ya' again kid. You wouldn't happen to have my pizza with you now...?"
"Sorry, no." He sighed.
"Guess I'll wait another hour then and starve." A man about an inch taller than me came and shook my hand.
"Hannah, this is Brian. He's stepping in for Bon since- well you know what happened," Angus said.
"Great to meet you lass, Angus talked a lot about you-" He stopped and looked at the blonde woman. She was staring at me, uncertain. Brian cleared his throat and smiled. "Welcome back."
"Thank you," I smiled. Angus took me over to another man standing by Malcolm.
"And this is Cliff our bassist since 1977." Cliff shook my hand too.
"How's it goin' love?" he asked.
"Fine thanks, how are you?"
"Good. Breathing."
"That's good," I laughed. A brunette woman came up to me.
"Hello Hannah. I'll introduce myself since I don't think Malcolm will."
"I would have if you asked me," Malcolm said.
"You're too busy over there sipping a soda," she said smiling.
"I can walk over there Linda." He came over and stood next to her. "See?"
"Yeah, so I'm Linda, Malcolm's-"
"Malcolm's wife. Linda," he interrupted pointing at her. She lightly punched his shoulder. "I'm introducing you like you wanted." I smiled at their banter. Everyone turned to look at Angus who stood there awkwardly. "Angus?"
"Yeah?"
"Aren't you gonna..."
"Oh right. This is my wife Ellen." Angus helped her stand and oh was she tall. Taller than most of us that's for sure. She smiled and shook my hand.
"You're the time traveler I've heard so much about," she smiled. Her accent was pretty. I returned her friendliness and firmly gripped her hand.
"That's the one. It's lovely to meet you Ellen," I said giving her a small curtsey. She didn't seem to think it as funny as the others but she was satisfied anyway.
"Are you staying for the holidays?" she asked.
"Hopefully. It'd be great to spend them with these nut jobs," I gestured to the band.
"That's great! You can help Linda and I go holiday shopping tomorrow." I liked these new faces already.
Angus stood there watching Hannah talk to Ellen. They hit it off much better than he expected which was terrific to see. But he was worried about himself. He loved Ellen, you don't marry people for no reason. But Hannah... oh God was he confused. He didn't know how to act around two people he loved, his mother didn't teach him that. But he knew Ellen more and was freaking married to her so Hannah was-out of the question. What was he thinking? He could have seen her again. Sure it might take five years, but she still came back. It's possible she even had someone of her own. She was nineteen, she could have been married. No, she would have told him. He decided all he could do was be her friend. And that's more than he could ask from her.
"He's spacing out."
"You okay Angus?" Brian laughed.
"What?" Angus snapped out of his thoughts.
"You zoned out on us Ang," Phil said.
"Prolly too busy starin' at his wife," Cliff said making everyone laugh. Malcolm looked down knowing who he was actually staring at. He suggested he waited a little longer to see if she would return, but it's almost like he gave up. Not all of him, just a part of him. A part of him that wanted a close relationship, wanted a girl in his life. And truthfully, someone to share a bed with. But the rest of him wanted nothing more than his friend back in his arms.
"Excuse me Hannah, but why are you in your pajamas?" asked Linda politely.
"I came here in my sleep. I fall asleep in my time and wake up here. Then when I fall asleep sometime here, I'll return to my time right where I left off."
"That's amazing."
"That's the trippiest dream I've ever heard," Brian said.
"Tell me about it," I laughed.
"Do you have anywhere to sleep?" Ellen asked.
"Not really, no."
"Here come with me. I'll show you to our guest room, you can stay there."
"Thank you Ellen." I followed her up the stairs.
"Hey Angus, I want to talk with you about something," Malcolm said.
"What about?"
"The coffee maker. Does it matter? Let's go outside."
