Mr. Stark

It's okay to be saved once in a while too.

Percy and Peter had been friends for a few weeks. After the rocky first few days, everything had flown smoothly. Both boys were doing good.

Percy was stretching, preparing to swim. He had a meet today, and Peter was sitting in the stands.

Peter was sitting in the stands trying to not think too much about Percy flexing. He had been denying that he had a crush on Percy for weeks. He was sure it was purely one sided and didn't want to ruin their friendship. This was enough, he told himself.

Percy's coach called him over. He was up after this race. He looked over to where Peter sat, doing homework. He smiled, the other boy busy with calculus or something else Percy failed to understand.

Percy had only ever liked Annabeth. It had always been her. Which explained why he was so clueless to the fact that he wanted to be more than friends with Peter. He couldn't explain what he felt for Peter, but whatever it was made him have to be around the other boy. They spent hours everyday hanging out and getting to know each other. After about a week of knowing each other, Percy had told Pete that his godly father was Poseidon and he was basically a sea prince.

Percy's coach called him up to the block. He had to concentrate.

Peter was now watching. The Son of Poseidon's swim race was about to commence.

Percy and Peter were walking through the parking lot of Goode. It was only around six in the evening. They intended to catch the bus back to the apartment building they both lived in. Neither of them could drive yet, nor had the money for a vehicle, so the buses it was.

They were laughing and having a nice time, walking down the street to the bus stop. Percy had but his shirt on while he was still damp, so it turned a darker shade then it previously had been. Peter had questioned him, "If you literally draw strength from water, why don't you at least carry a water bottle with you everywhere?"

Percy had admitted to not even thinking about it. Peter gently judged him, "Like really man. Even after spending all day at school? Don't tell me you don't get thirsty in between class."

Percy just laughed. "It's not my fault I have a million things on my mind."

"Don't use your ADHD as an excuse Perce," Peter laughed, "Why do you think I have such weird goggles on my original spidey suit. My eyesight is so enhanced it gives me vertigo."

Percy glanced at Peter, "Doesn't it make it hard to even read then?"

"Well, yeah." Peter seemed to really be considering this.

"So you may very well be dyslexic like me!" Percy laughed, "Don't use your almost-dyslexia as an excuse Peter." He mocked the other boy, mimicking the phrase he had said earlier.

"Can you even spell dyslexia?" Peter countered. Percy scoffed and shoved him, causing them both to laugh.

They had covered nearly a block during their discussion. Almost to the second bus stop. They had been so caught up they passed the first one. After Peter realized this, he began laughing hard. One of those, 'hang your head and stop walking because there's tears coming from your eyes' laughs.

Percy was laughing, but not nearly as hard. He was watching Peter's hair come loose from its gel a bit and hand in front of his face. His nice honey coloured locks.

They stood there for a bit longer as Peter composed himself. They were about to continue on when a wind started up. Percy immediately reached for his pen and was about to uncap in when Peter stopped him.

A particular Tony Stark in a particular Iron Man suit was descending in front of the boys. Percy knew enough about Peter's internship to put his pen away.

He landed, and his helmet vanished to show a grumpy looking Stark.

Peter looked guilty and opened his mouth to say something.

Mr. Stark cut him off, "Nope. I don't want to hear it. I remember what I told you, but do you?"

Peter shut his mouth but looked upset and guilty now.

Mr. Stark continued, "So you told this kid you're Spiderman? Did you learn nothing from Evangeline?" He said the words like venom.

That struck a nerve. In that moment, Percy saw Peter turn to stone. He instantly stiffened and steeled up. His eyes, normally rays of gold and copper, turned as hard as Vanadium and seemed void of colour. He snarled at Mr. Stark, which was extremely out of character for how much he idolized him, "None of that was my fault!"

Peter pushed past the Iron Man suit and stalked down the sidewalk. His shoulders were hunched and his body language was hostile.

Percy stared at Tony Stark, possibly sizing him up, before running after Pete and trying to grab him by his arm.

Peter shook him off and walked faster. Percy was getting really concerned. He had never seen Peter this upset. Not even after a battle gone wrong.

Percy ended up following him in silence like a dejected puppy. Peter wasn't being himself, so Percy tried not to take Pete ignoring him to heart.

They also rode the bus back to their street in silence. Percy understood Peter was upset, but he was also starting to get annoyed. He wanted Peter to at least speak to him.

The bus dropped them off at the stop, close to their building. Peter began to walk in the right direction. Still no words. The sun was setting.

Percy got fed up. As soon as Peter passed by a large-mouthed alley, Percy practically shoved him into it. Peter was too surprised to fight back initially.

"I get you're upset, but that's no reason to shut me out!" Percy whisper-hissed at Peter, having the other boy pinned up against the wall.

Peter was a bit shocked. Percy was inches from his face and angry. His forearm pushed against Peter's collar bone. The rest of Percy was also keeping the other boy against the wall.

After his shock, Peter went back to being angry. "It's not like it's intentional, I just have a lot on my mind. Now get off me!" he used his spidey-strength to push Percy backwards a few steps.

He was about to step out of the alley, his back to Percy, when the demigod pulled him back. Percy spun Peter by his arm and made him face him, "Who is Evangeline? Why was Stark mad at you? Why did you look guilty?"

Peter's anger faded enough for him to respond, "Stark is mad at me because he doesn't want me getting close to anyone anymore. He wants me to keep my two lives separate after what happened. And I knew that's what he wanted, but it's not like I told you I was Spidey. You just happened to glance out your window at the right time."

"What happened? Who-" Percy was soft with his words, but Peter cut him off.

"Evangeline was my best friend about a year ago. She was the other Stark Intern. Sh-" His voice broke. "She." He searched for the words, falling silent, "A lot happened. She quit. Pushed us all away. Abandoned me."

His voice was laced with grief. His shoulders sagged. He let his head fall onto Percy's shoulder as the other boy pulled him into a hug.

Percy didn't mention it, but he felt Peter's uneven breath on his collarbone, and his tears soaked through Percy's shirt; at first warm, but chilled quickly.

It was nightfall by the time the boys made it back to their respective apartments. They both got home, few words said, and dismissed themselves to their rooms.

Peter once again climbed through into Percy's room. It had become a thing of theirs. Whenever one of them had a rough day, they would lay together.

They didn't even realize it had become their thing though. They were just those kind of 'friends'. They thought nothing of it, it was just their thing.

That night though, Peter had decided to bring his photo of Evangeline over. Percy studied her appearance, and from her looks, had trouble believing she would ever abandon Peter. She had honest eyes and a sweet smile.

But, then again, looks can be deceiving.
