A trip to Elysium
It's okay to be saved once in a while too.
Percy was on his way to the Underworld. He had a few errands to run, a few people to see. After Peter and himself had reunited during the fight against Thanos, Percy was introduced to the Avengers and the other heroes he had fought alongside in battle. Most of them were very wary of him at first, understandably so. Percy was the guy in Ancient Greek battle armor, radiating godly amounts of energy who single handedly took on what seemed to be a quarter of Thanos' army. He was the warrior who seemingly could not be killed.
He stayed with the heroes for a short time, collecting their stories and learning of their fallen. He was going to make a request to Hades for some much deserved Elysium passes. He had their names written down on a slip of paper in his pocket; Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, and a handful of others.
Of course he wasn't about to make a fool of himself in front of Hades, so he was going to Elysium first to figure out who had already wound up there. After some negotiation and deliberation with the two half-blood camps, and Annabeth, she was having her cousin, Magnus check Valhalla for the fallen that had ended up there. Percy had been told that dying with any sort of weapon in your hand could make you eligible for Valhalla, so Percy had no doubt there was plenty of warriors from the battle against Thanos who had ended up there.
He wasn't entirely sure if the hero they called Vision would be at either afterlife, after all, he wasn't exactly a human. Heimdall was most likely at Valhalla, having been a Norse god, but then again, Percy had no clue if he died with a weapon in his hands. The gatekeeper of Asgard had died five years ago, before the initial snap that took half the universe away had even happened. Peggy Carter however was expected to be in Elysium, he was told. She had died quite a few years before the chaos, but he was told if she was in Elysium, to deliver a message from Steve Rogers.
It was a small trek, everything seemed small nowadays. Thanos' snap had changed Percy, and not necessarily for the better. Trapped in the Tartarus like darkness had changed him. There was a part of himself that was darker, that darkness in himself that he had been trying to diminish for years had broken through the cracks in his armor. He only became totally aware of this in the fight. Peter was in trouble and Percy, without thinking about it, had wiped out at least 50 enemies... with just his mind. Apparently the term was "bloodbending", and the term came from that show Avatar. Anyways, Percy had done that and massacred the enemy. He wasn't unaware of the brief stares he got from the other heroes. He wasn't unaware of how they all gave him a wide berth and Pete was the only one who seemed oblivious to it. First he had hugged Percy, ignoring his armor, and then he had collapsed into Percy after Mr. Stark died. Percy just held and comforted him like a good boyfriend.
He was at Elysium now. He got plenty of stares, but then quite a few friendly smiles and waves. He recognized quite a few people; Charles Beckendorf, Castor, Dionysus' son, and a few other of his friends, heroes who had died in the Second Titan War. He was looking around for the heroes on the list in his pocket when he froze. The girl a little ways away seemed awfully familiar. He tilted his head, trying to get a better look, but she was no longer facing him. A wave of dark, curly hair prevented him from seeing any of her features. The spark of curiosity however, had been planted. Percy then casually walked closer to her. The street they were at reminded him or Venice or Italy, the style of the structures and such. He would have to remember to tell Annabeth about the baffling Elysian architecture. The street he had entered Elysium on reminded him of the suburbs he had seen from a window when he was traveling across the country on various quests. The street he was on now however was much different, cobbled ground instead of asphalt, everything was two story and cramped in that style that didn't make it seem cramped. All the buildings were bright colors, vibrant reds, yellows, oranges. Mini terraces, stairs, and windows all over the place.
The familiar looking girl sat in the middle of a small courtyard at a fountain. She was on the edge of a fountain, and had a purse with her. Percy was quite close now but she continued to pay him no attention. She was digging around within her purse seeming to look for something.
"You don't happen to have a pen, do you?" Her voice startled him. It wasn't what he was expecting. Her voice was tired, but strangely comforting. She sounded relaxed and exhausted all at the same time. She didn't look up at him, she just knew he was there.
Percy shook off his surprise and pulled Riptide out of his pocket and uncapped it, then placed the cap to the other end, in seconds the sword shrank down into a pen. He offered it to the girl, "Here,"
When she accepted the pen from Percy was the first time he got a good look at her and realized why she seemed so familiar. That second came and passed, she was already looking down at a small moleskine journal in her hands, jotting something down. The image of when she looked up at him though was burned in his memory for the short time being. He was too shocked to think, "Why wasn't she surprised my pen turned into a sword?"
Her skin was tan and freckled, a combo not too often seen together. Her hair, as he previously noticed, was dark and curly. She looked like she was the daughter of John Stamos and Halle Berry. Her eyes however, they reminded him of spearmint gum and the sheets of ice coming off the glaciers in Alaska. They felt cold, but comfortable all at the same time. They were cold, cold for green eyes. Even in death, they hadn't lost their luster.
She looked back up at him to return his pen, holding it out to him and studying his face. He could tell she was studying his face, because he was studying hers. He accepted Riptide and slipped it back into his pocket wordlessly. They stared at each other's features for a moment.
"I'm dreadfully sorry, but do I know you?" She spoke very formally for someone with an American accent. Maybe there was a hint of another type of accent, but she hadn't said enough for Percy to be sure. In fact, Percy wasn't sure her voice wasn't a little challenging, there was a tease in her words when she asked if she knew him.
"Uh, no," Percy shook his head, "I don't think we've ever been introduced. It's an honor though."
His words made her knit her eyebrows in confusion, he could tell she was scanning her brain, trying to figure out any possibility of a way that Percy would know who she was. She looked back up at him, making eye contact again. Green eyes met green eyes. One pair the color of the sea, the other light and mint tinted.
"You're Evangeline Value, aren't you?" Percy's words were slow, as not to alarm. She may be in Elysium, but he had no doubt she packed some power. He probably made the right call with his words, because she physically tensed up for a moment. Back straightened, a tiny shudder ran through her body.
"I was." She stared, clearly waiting for him to elaborate on how he knew who she was, and who he was.
"I'm Percy," He began, and paused as her expression became more puzzled.
"Percy, Percy, hmm, how do I know that name? Percy," She muttered to herself, under her breath. Her eyes left Percy's and once more she stared into oblivion thinking.
Percy cleared his throat and tried again, "I'm Percy, I'm dati- uhh, I think you know my boyfriend," he tried, waiting for her to take the bait.
She raised an eyebrow, "I'll bite, who's your boyfriend?"
Percy couldn't stop the shit eating grin as he said, "Peter Parker."
The girl, Evangeline shot up in shock, no longer sitting on the fountain edge, "NO FUCKING WAY!" She shouted, getting very loud very fast. She smacked Percy's arm, not hard, more in the way you smack your friend when you think they're pulling your leg. She was nearly a head shorter than him.
"Pete got a boyfriend?!" She shrieked, oblivious to her notebook and purse which had spilled from her lap when she leapt up and were now laying on the cobbled street.
"Holy Chicken Strips," she paused to look at Percy who was holding in his laughter, barely. She looked him up and down, "Damn, Petey-boy did good."
Percy lost it, his laughter shot out of him so unexpectedly that he spewed spit everywhere and threw his head backwards, large laughs racking his body. He could feel the redness of his face from her comment and let it fuel his laughter. Man, Peter was gonna flip when he told him when Evangeline said.
*
A little while later, Percy and Peter's late best friend, Evangeline were combing the rest of Elysium for the souls that hopefully wound up there. It was strange, it was like walking next to a middle schooler or something, she was a very small girl and he was continually trying not to outpace her, on account of her short legs. She had been very sombered to hear that the last war had claimed the lives of both Stark and Romanoff. Those two Avengers were especially close to her heart. Stark had given her the best life he could have before she had passed away. And Natasha, Natasha she loved as a mother.
It was not all bad though, Percy watched her cross her fingers for a chance to see her 'family' again, maybe get to be in Elysium with them.
They were back at the fountain Percy had met Evangeline at when an Iris Message appeared, waiting for a drachma as payment. Percy fished one out of his pocket and tossed it through the mist.
The callers were Annabeth and Nico. The moment the call opened, Nico narrowed his eyes and asked why there was a ghost right next to Percy, answering the call with him. Percy looked over at Evangeline, he could barely see what Nico meant. Much like the other Elysian members, Evangeline had more color than the rest of the souls in the Underworld. Yeah, she was a little faded and grey, they all were, but for some reason her eyes weren't, they were still vibrant and full of life.
Perce figured Nico could tell because he was the Ghost King, so he explained to Nico that Evangeline was Peter's best friend, and former caretaker of the Avengers. That seemed to suffice, because then the Iris Message turned back to the reason the duo called. According to what Magnus had found, and Nico as well, from consulting with his father, it seemed that both Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff's after worldly fates were still being determined. One, because Tony had an interesting set of beliefs, and two, because Hades himself had to make the judgement call on Natasha Romanoff. The judges who looked through the memories of the dead and made a decision for once couldn't, because they for some reason could not access all her memories.
Percy could feel Evangeline's horror. It was like her emotions physically manifested or something, because Percy could immediately sense and feel what she was feeling. Maybe it was just a ghoul thing but-
Evangeline grabbed his wrist, "Take me to Hades, please," She pulled on him, it was a mere tug, for she was petite. "Please, maybe I could convince him to save her. She deserves Elysium." She begged.
Luckily, she didn't need to, Percy was already planning on asking Hades to spare the heroes. He nodded in confirmation to her and turned his attention back to the Iris Message, "We'll see what we can do from here." Then waved his hand through the mist, ending the call.
The duo set off from Elysium to the Palace in the distance.
