The next day I walked over to my abandoned lunch table and started to eat, as it usualy is. The table was always empty and quiet. I was a little lonely, as it normaly is. Suddenly the table shuddered and I looked up to see Tambren sitting across from me. I asked

"Do you need something from me? Can I help you with anything?"

"No. I want to become friends. Is that ok?"

I looked at her with awe. Why would she want to become friends with a useless nobody like me. As if she read my mind she said

"You are not a useless nobody. I want to become friends with you because I see that you are a kind person. I was walking through the park one day and I saw you helping a duckling back into the water. I thought 'now there's a person who knows how to be kind and selfless'. When I found out you were coming to this school, I knew I wanted to become friends with you. So, how about it? Will you be my friend?"

I nodded my head, unable to form words. No one was able to figure me out that quickly before. I was shocked. As I was shocked, I didn't notice everyone coming over to the table and start to eat with me. When I snapped out of it, I said

"Please be my friend. I know I'm a useless nobody, but maybe you can change that. If you are willing to accept me into the group, I will do my best to be a good friend."

They looked at me and smiled. I smiled back. Maybe this school year wouldn't be so bad.
