Chapter 4
She stops walking at the back of the hall and I almost bump into her. "This is your room." Says the girl and she points to a door. 'Next door is the girls' bathroom. the lock is broken, but a mechanic will be there soon. ' She opens the bathroom door slightly and I glance quickly into the bathroom. 'All the girls sleep on this floor, and the boys on the ground floor. There you also have the living room and a big kitchen. The boys also have their own bathroom, but ours is much nicer. ' The girl says proudly and she smiles. I smile back. "I'm Abby, by the way." And she holds out her hand to me. "My name is Esmee." And I shake her hand. "Well Esmee, I am sitting opposite you, you can always come to me if there is anything wrong."
'Thank you!' I smile and then Abby walks into her room. I turn and stare at the door. My door. I take another key from the keychain and unlock the door. I walk into the room and see a queen-size bed, a desk and a wardrobe. The room is small but cozy. I put my suitcase on the bed and start unpacking.
A few hours later I neatly folded my clothes and hung them in the closet. I decorated the room nicely with paintings, pillows and rugs.
I got hungry after all that unpacking and saw on my subway ride this morning that there is a McDonald's around here. My guilty pleasure. I grab my wallet from the desk and lock the door behind me. Shall I ask Abby if she's coming along too? And before I know it, I'm knocking on her door. The door jerks open and it scares me. "Hey Esmee."
"Hey, would you like to go to McDonald's?" I ask softly. "Yes, I would like that! I'm starving." She says cheerfully. She quickly puts on her boots and we walk to the stairs, out the door towards McDonald's.
We walk into McDonald's and both order an entire menu because we are so hungry. When we sit at the table, I greedily eat my chicken nuggets. Abby takes a bite of her hamburger and asks with her mouth full, "So, have you met nice people yet?"
'This morning on the subway I met a boy, we talked very briefly. I don't know his name or if I'll ever see him again. ' Abby laughs. 'I'm sure you'll run into him again. You were on the same subway, weren't you? '
I hadn't really thought about that at all. And at that moment a group of boys enters the McDonald's. Abby and I turn our heads at the same time and look at the group. I hope with all my heart that the boy from the metro will walk between them.
