"It's not fair that we came all this way just to be out of reach of the cave," I sighed. Everyone grumbled their agreements.

We sat like that for only 30 seconds when an unusual sound perked up our ears. Cody shot up while the rest of us sat up straighter. That wasn't the regular sound of a bird.

We listened intently, straining to hear the strange noise again. This time, we heard voices.

"Yes, this will be the lookout point. We'll stay here. You, Ammon, and Annalise will hide up here for a while."

It was coming from the cave! Right above our heads!

"But Rune, what do we do if something goes wrong? Do we meet back here?"

"No, no, no! Libby, I clearly did not marry you for your brains! No one knows about this cave so if something does go wrong, we don't want the police crawling all over here. Head east, towards the mountains and I'll take care of the rest. And that's only if- IF- something goes wrong."

I stared at my cousins while Ilah put a finger to her lips. "Listen," she mouthed.

We heard some movement from the cave.

"Let's get going then," Someone said from the cave.

Scraping of clothing against rock warned us.

"Go, go!" I panicked. Ilah pointed to crevice 2 feet behind us. She dove into it, barely fitting through the crack. I followed, Cody grabbed my ankles and followed me in. Jo wormed her way into the tight spot just as a pair of bare feet landed right where we were sitting. We watched breathlessly as 4 more pairs of dirty feet landed in front of our faces. They turned to face each other.

"Just remember: follow the plan and we all get a reward in this."

They stood there for several more seconds. Of course, a huge hairy spider decided to make its way onto my face during this tense moment.

I went cross eyed as I followed it onto my nose. "Eww!" I silently groaned. Cody did a double take looking over his shoulder at me. His eyes got as big as the toe nail on the hippie dude's furry feet.

"Jack," he moaned. Ilah clapped her hand over his mouth.

Finally, the weird family decided to leave and they took off down the mountain. I looked at my family in disbelief. What the HECK just happened?
