Chapter 3: Wrestling.

When Josh told him all about his visit to the wrestling school the next day at Chemistry class, Seth hardly paid him any attention. He was able to piece out little details Josh narrated: meeting the owner's son Fergal Devvit, watching some of the students train and witnessing a wrestling match in person. Seth was a little jealous Josh had seen everything before he did but the more he thought about it, the more he realized his day hadn't been bad at all either.

His day had turned out better than he had expected. Meeting Rebecca had been an added bonus to meeting Annette, cracking jokes and eating a delicious meal afterward. But it was Rebecca that made missing out on the wrestling school worth it. He had spent the better part of his day thinking about her, even missing her to a certain extent-particularly her green eyes and her beautiful Irish accent. It came as a surprise to Josh when Seth grabbed his bag and dashed out of class once school finally ended. He met Rebecca across the street with grocery bags in hand.

She smiled and waved at him. "Glad you're here." The neighbourhood was quiet. It usually is, that's why he found it amusing when she checked sideways before crossing the road to the other side. She cocked her head, "You seem to find everything funny."

"You don't have to worry much about cars around here. The neighbourhood is small and everyone is out to work at afternoons," he opened the door for her but he lingered outside.

She sat the bags beside the door and tugged a tendril of hair behind her ear, "That's what I thought. So you can imagine the fright I went through when a car came out of nowhere earlier. Luckily I was halfway to the street before it could knock me down." She paused and studied him, "Why don't you come in?"

Seth peered inside, "Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother."

"I'm sure my mom will disagree with you on that. Besides," she grabbed his hand, tugging on it, "your mother has said some pretty good things about you. According to her, you are a very Good Samaritan so I'm sure you can help me arrange the things in the kitchen."

Seth laughed as Rebecca dragged him inside. He was amazed to find the living room tidy and neat. Yesterday it had been a mess with the beds, boxes, couches, tables among other things scattered everywhere. Now, the couches were neatly arranged along with the glass table at the center. A carpet ran under the television which he suspected wasn't set yet. "Mr. Anderson can help you with setting your television. He is an amazing electrician."

"Oh really? That's good. Because we need help with the fridge too and most importantly the wires. My mom wants to make sure everything is okay before we plug in anything."

The bed was also gone Seth noticed, along with the boxes and suitcases. Even the fireplace was gleaming bright white and gold. Logs of wood were in a rack beside it. He helped Rebecca with the grocery bags to the kitchen. He stumbled over piles of plates, cooking utensils and other kitchenware as he entered. He gestured to the mess, "What is this? Some kind of cooking party?"

She scowled at him, "Don't give me that look. I'm not lazy you know. Just had a lot to do so I forgot. Will you help me arrange them in the cabinets?"

"Of course." There was hardly space but he managed. Carefully, he navigated his way around the piles of plates and others to her side. He glanced around and noticed a small ladder leaning against the counter. His laughter ran out uncontrolled. "Now I get it."

She was taking out fruits, vegetables and other things she had bought from her grocery bags but she spared time to look at him over her shoulder."What?"

"It's simple. You are just too short to reach the cabinets so you need a tall person for the job." He straightened a bit to make his point. "Who better than me?"

She hauled an apple at him which he caught effortlessly. "Smart ass. I could have done it myself you know. I wouldn't have needed you. You just happened to pass by so I took advantage of it."

He bit into the apple, "You mean the ladder?"

She nodded, "Obviously."

Seth shook his head and bent down to arrange the kitchenware scattered on the floor. His eyes never left Rebecca as she arranged the fruits in a bowl at the middle of their dining table. When she bent down to help him, their hands brushed briefly sending a shiver down his spine. "Sorry."

She blushed up at him, "It's alright."

He sighed as she moved back. He hated to think she was moving away from him but it seemed like it. "Let's get this done. The sooner we finish. . . ."

"The sooner you can eat," she finished for him. "I can imagine you must be hungry."

He smirked at her, "Actually I was going to say; the sooner we finish, the sooner I can help you with the cooking and try out your food."

She laughed out a breathy laugh. Her laugh was as rich as her voice, "Be careful Mr. Lopez, your tongue might burn."

"Oh, that bad? By the way, how do you know my last name?"

The look she gave him made him feel stupid, "Your mother's last name is Lopez so obviously yours will be too," she reasoned.

The answer caught him off guard. His parents aren't divorced yet but he had thought his mother wouldn't use his father's last name now that he was basically living miles away from them. He couldn't help the small glimmer of hope that lit up in his heart but he quickly brushed it away lest it stayed. "What is your last name?"

"Quinn. Rebecca Quinn," she took a deep breath, "but you can call me Becky."

"Like derived from Rebecca? Becky? Becks? Becca?" He started stating ridiculous nicknames even going as far as saying Reb which earned him a smack on his arm.

Rebecca was laughing though, "Anything but Reb. You can call me Rebecca but I prefer Becky. Do you understand me?"

He grunted in response and stretched to take the spoons and cups at the other side, "I do. Same way I will prefer it if you call me Seth, you know instead of Colby."

She frowned at him, "Doesn't sound like it's derived from Colby."

A nervous laugh escaped him. He didn't know if he should tell her but it felt awfully right to do so. "Seth is the name I will use for. . . . if I get into wrestling. Hopefully the WWE in the future."

She stopped to look at him, mouth agape. "You want to be a wrestler?"

"Yes, I do." He replied.

She beamed at him, setting a plate aside and leaning close to him again. "I want to be a wrestler too."

It was Seth's turn to be surprised. "Really? That's so cool."

She sighed as if in relief that she is finally able to share it with someone. "My favorite wrestlers are Lita and Trish Stratus-well I like Lita more but all the same I love them both. But my role model is Mick Foley. I love that guy so much."

He took a moment to scrutinize her. She was decently wearing black pants with a white shirt. Thank God, she isn't dressed like Lita, he thought. "Well mine is Stone Cold. How cool was that guy in King of the Ring tournament? I'm sure he will land in WWE very soon and. . . ." They spent hours talking about wrestling, discussing faces and heels, ring names and everything they could think of about wrestling. When they finally finished arranging things in the cabinets and cooking-well Rebecca cooked and Seth stole bits of everything-it was close to seven and Annette was already home.

"Colby you are here!" Annette hugged him, looking around the kitchen. They had mopped and cleaned the floors of the kitchen as well as take out cobwebs. They had been so engrossed in wrestling talk that Seth hadn't realized how much time had passed. All the same, the floors were dazzlingly clean. "This kitchen looks nice. Are you both sure I haven't lost the way to my house?"

They both laughed, "This is indeed your house, aunt Annette. I better go home now. I'm sure my mom is back."

"Oh, won't you stay for dinner?"
Seth glanced at Rebecca knowingly. He had already eaten half of everything Rebecca had been preparing. He was more than full now. "Nah, I'm good." He reached for his bag and whispered to Rebecca, "The food was delicious." He winked at her. He didn't get time to see her blush but he was confident she did.

Annette walked him to the door. "Favour granted Colby. I visited your school this evening before coming home. Rebecca and I will come there tomorrow morning to finish all the formalities. Let's say by next week, you will have a new school mate."

Colby wanted to do a happy dance right there but he stopped out of shyness and of Annette's presence. But shyness didn't stop him from grinning like a fool. "Really, aunt Annette? That's awesome. Rebecca didn't say anything to me?"

"I will tell her over dinner," she said, "I hope you keep your promise young man and look after my Rebecca." He nodded eagerly. "Now hurry along. Your mother must be worried. I heard the sound of her car parking."

Seth shouted his goodbye to Rebecca and ran out to his house, hair swishing in the night's breeze as he jogged. He did his little happy dance at the lawn before he jumped over the fence to his house. He was going to have a new school mate even though they weren't going to be in the same class but at least they had one thing in common; wrestling.
