Chapter 17

"Are you here yet?" asked Rachel as soon as the call was picked up on the other end.

"Just at the entrance. You can't wait, hmm?" asked Hannes with an audible smirk.

"Yes! Yes! I really can't..." replied Rachel rolling her eyes, reaching the room she had picked for the play. She stood in front of it, a wide smile plastered on her face.

"Rachel!" called out Hannes. "Why are you outside?"

"Waiting for you," replied Rachel, turning towards the door as she saw Hannes approaching. She held the handle of the door.

"Of course, you should."

Narcissist...

"Of course, I would wait, wait to watch you fall with my own eyes. Wait to see with my own eyes your life lose its meaning."

With this, Rachel opened the door and stood holding it as Hannes entered the room. She followed him inside. As Rachel let go of the door, the sound of a vase shattering echoed through the room.

Rachel smirked and walked ahead of Hannes. She scanned the horrified faces of Sira and Jason, then turned with a sweet smile and looked straight into Hannes' eyes. "Is my gift good enough for you? I really picked the best gift one could ever think of. I really put an effort into it."

"What... what is this?" asked Hannes, turning to face Rachel with his shaking, clenched hands. "Just what did you do to Sira? What has she ever done to you?"

Rachel couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Ah! Hahaha... ah... your love and trust are commendable. Even I am shocked. Someone who hates you to the bone can even admire you in the slightest. That's a great achievement, you know."

"Shut up," Hannes shouted, rushing towards Sira and covering her with his coat. He glared at Rachel. "You just can't let go of me, can you? How could you? Just how could you plot this against another woman? How low can you fall? Aren't you ashamed?"

Rachel stood there, looking straight into Hannes' eyes as past memories played through her mind. The only word her soul spoke was... and yet I considered him unfaithful...

As Hannes stopped his rambling and calmed his rising chest, Rachel smiled and sat on the chair near the balcony door, resting on its back.

"I did think that you wouldn't believe me, but I really did not know you would trust Sira this much. I am... I am shocked... ha ha ha, I am flabbergasted. You are incredible, you know."

"Tsk... thank God I prepared in advance, or I'd really be at a disadvantage today, right Sira," said Rachel, smirking and covering her mouth with her hands.

"What are you?" questioned Hannes, swallowing his following words with a gulp as he stared at her. He just couldn't do anything to her, even if he was angry, even if what she did to Sira was unforgivable. She had become dangerous, and her father was already there, and now Daniel. This woman was really a thorn in his eyes.

"No one, just a person with immense regret. It's powerful, you know," spoke Rachel as she got up, taking out a pendrive from her pocket. She inserted it into the laptop on the table, clicked the play button, and stood beside the laptop, looking directly at the three of them as they watched the clips. These were the people who once took everything from her, the man she loved madly. Seeing him now, she realized that he was a faithful man, though self-centered, but not for her. And who would want a man, although loyal, who escapes his responsibilities? She would make him pay for everything he did to her. She would make the man pay who did not even consider their childhood friendship when he cast her away and utilized her family's wealth.

See it and die... die from the inside out... see what the woman you cherished, that one thing you loved more than your business, betray you in front of your eyes... huh...

In the clip:

"Baby, you are here!!"

"Yes," shouted Sira as she leaped on the man and hugged him.

"Did not know that woman, Rachel, could actually create such a nice occasion for us to meet. I have to be thankful to her," spoke Jason.

"Yes! She actually organized such a vacation for her employees in her hotel herself," replied Sira with a wide smile.

"Yes, I have to say I am really grateful to her. This is the crucial time, and Hannes cannot see us. The only place he doesn't dare anymore is Starry and Co. owned hotels," spoke Jason.

"Ahh really! I was dying to meet you... you do not know how torturous it is to act all cute and naïve in front of that foolish man and satisfy his ego."

*************

"Sadly, I have to stop here. Well, you know I am a decent person..." With that, Rachel closed the laptop, took out the pendrive, and placed it in Hannes' coat pocket. She tapped on his back and spoke while standing close behind him, "Do as many verifications as you want but... make sure..." She turned her head and looked at the two lovebirds and continued, "...to keep it safe from some people's hands if... you have the common sense."

With that, she walked out of the door, closing her blazer buttons and her hair trailing behind her.

Sira was still standing beside Hannes as he held her with both hands, covering her with his coat. As Rachel neared the door, Hannes' grip on Sira tightened.

As Rachel came out into the lobby, she met Daniel, who smiled and hugged her tightly, with Rachel only reaching his shoulders. He smiled again and said, "Let's go."

As she walked, emotions and memories danced before her eyes. It was all over... finally... finally, she could live a happy life with Mom and Dad, with her family, and with Daniel. She turned to look at the man walking beside her, someone who was always there, the man who had a rough exterior but the kindest heart.

"What are you looking at?"

"Nothing, just looking at my handsome husband," to which Daniel smiled and as they reached outside the hotel where their car was already waiting for them. He stopped at the gate, took out the green ring which had been the reason they traveled here, handed it to her, and asked her to wear it.

"Why are you giving me this?"

"Nothing, it is a precious ring. It was only because of it we got a second chance. I want you to wear it as a wedding ring. Will you?"

"Whatever you say..." replied Rachel cheerfully as she extended her hand, and Daniel helped her wear it.

"It's beautiful, thank you... I am really happy to have you."

"Hmm... and now it's quite late already. You should go..."

"Go... what do you mean and what do you mean by late? It's only around half past eight in the evening."

"Oh... is it... I mean you should be tired. You should go and rest."

"What is it... I have never seen you so flustered," asked Rachel as her smile instantly faded. She held his arms and looked into his eyes for an answer.

"Nothing, stop overthinking it. I have some work at the company and then I will come back."

"Promise to come back early and keep yourself safe."

"Sure," replied Daniel as he ruffled Rachel's hair and smiled.

"Yes, and where can you even go? We have a lifetime to spend together."

"Right, right. Now go and rest, my dear," spoke Daniel as he turned Rachel with his hands and slowly pushed her to the car door.

"You promise, right?" asked Rachel suddenly as she turned to sit in the car.

"Yes... yes, go now."

"Okay, bye-bye."

And with that, her car drove out of the main entrance as two men watched her leave.

"Sir... but you did not have any work at the company today..."

"I know............"
